Still nothing near Cleveland, huh. Oh well, not going to fly (or drive 8+ hours) for something like that.
Oh, and I love the F&F style speech: "Registration will open for biz soon". Does talking in stupid slang really appeal to anyone?? (Don't answer that, I know I don't actually want to know the answer.)

That works out perfectly for me...I go back to school around the New York one and I'll definitely go out for that.
How much should it cost?

hmm, first mazda does Rev It Up, then go to Zoom Zoom Live. then chevy and GM do Auto Show in Motion, and now they are going to Rev It Up? isnt it all the same thing, test new cars in an autocross?

autoshoinmotion is/was more like a reason for folks to come out and drive the cars a little bit... you could get on it a little if the course-marshalls were cool, but if you pushed it too much, they'd bitch at you. The rev-it-up type events are more competition oriented... they encourage you to get on it.
That said, at a previous A.S.i.M. event here, we managed to stage an Aveo Challenge... all very informal. Consisted of stuffing four dudes into an Aveo and ripping around (as much as you can in an Aveo carrying for 'not small' people) and trying to put the thing on as few wheels as possible at any given time  Random hand-brake applications were not only attempted, but encouraged to be attempted by random passengers in the vehicle.
At the starting line, a proper "fire-drill" was executed so as to make way for the next guy in the rotation. As no one was ever waiting in line to test the Aveo, this went on innumerable times.
hooliganism at it's finest... may Jebus have mercy on that particular Aveo's tortured soul.

FWIW, GM actually had an Auto Show In Motion back in 99 or 00 in LA that I went to. No idea if that was the first one or not, but it certainly predates the Mazda stuff, though not nessecarily on a national scale. They were much more liberal about abuse as well :)

The previous Rev It Ups were $40.
By the way, AMCI owns the rights to the name RevItUp and they marketed it to Mazda for a couple years.
Now, they marketed it to Chevy.... and Chevy is comin'. :)
And about the autoshow in motion... only one or two parts could you actually get on it.... I remember my run in the Z06 2 years ago...

Ditto, and it'd have to be more than a one-run afterthought thing in the Vette. If they want me to drive a Cobalt or an Impala, they should pay me. Otherwise there are plenty of real autocrosses to pay for this summer.

Not necessarily. Like if Daddio were one of the pro drivers and driving the course at 100%, I'd be very interested to ride along and pick up some pointers.

No, just two competition runs in a cobalt, plus practice runs in a cobalt, and as rumor has it, a corvette. Plus rides shotgun in corvettes with pro's driving. Well worth the $45. Besides you don't have to provide the car or the tires that you get to abuse. Does that seem like a rip off to you? If it does then I would suggest you don't go. Heck, nowadays $45 will barely pay for the gas.

Recommendation: it is NOT worth it to try to work at these events.
I helped out at the 2004 event in DC. I think it was a little over $300 for 2 days of work. The "pro" drivers varied between being patronizing and being dicks, there really are no perks to speak of (we couldn't even take runs when there was no one there with a half hour to go... the "pros" kept going back and forth trying to get a time that 7-8 local autocrossers got, instead), you're outside for many hours and you have to give these mindbendingly patronizing speeches to people about how they aren't supposed to have the shifter in manual mode and if they hit the rev limiter they'll be banned and bla bla bla bla. Seriously, would it kill them to give the workers free water?
Another post from someone who worked that event:
I figure I should chime in, since I was there too.
Although I have done some hard times and dealt with some total pricks (Porsche driver at CMP), this was probably my worst experience as well. Sometimes, I leave a NASA event feeling unappreciated, but for the most part I'm usually satisfied.
As a customer, Rev It Up is an incredible deal. As an employee, you're getting the shaft, bigtime. No matter how many times I told them that I had to leave early, the [jerks] kept trying to get me to stay the whole day on Sunday. I got along pretty well on Saturday with the "Pros" until the end of the day. At that point, it was pointed out that they would get in trouble if we got to drive the car (mind you, random strangers with zero high intensity driving experience have been driving these cars all day long), therefore they drove for about 20 minutes while we got to watch. Relations further deteriorated on Sunday. Apparently, it is important the EVERY cone be standing upright, even those after the finish line. Furthermore, we had 3 MMers and 4 "Pros" at a station which could have been operated by 3-4 efficient people, if done properly. There was definitely a pervasive "I'm better than you" attitide at our place, even when there was no justification for it. That was the worst part about it.
Basically divide the money you'd make by the number of hours you have to spend there and you're likely to decide that it's not worth it (approximately $15/hr). At the time I was trying to rationalize the Miata beater (worked out OK) but I wouldn't do it again.
Just a heads up :)

It's not a "ripoff", no. But for an autocrosser I'm not sure it's much of a deal, either.
- Two runs in a Cobalt, wearing a dirty loaner helmet over a little hairnet b/c they won't let you bring your own.
- IIRC, the practice runs were only 12-14 seconds or so, and had long lines where you got to listen to pro's heckle the audience like they were children.
- Given the tone and target audience, I don't expect that the Vette ridealong will stress perfect (read: educational) lines (in a course I haven't walked/driven on myself) over general displays of power. Which is fine, but probably less useful than asking to ridealong with a local hotshoe at an autocross. And I don't expect I'll be able to ask many questions after the run, since the '04 event was all about moving lines of people in and out quickly.
- I just don't believe they're going to let the unwashed masses thrash a series of C6's in anger. Mayyybe, they'll have a "test drive" course or something a little more chaperoned, but that's not the same. Getting to race one would push it over the edge for me, since I don't know anyone who'd let me flog theirs. :) Didn't they try to keep people from pushing the Mazdaspeed Miatas on the test course in '04? I didn't make it through the line to drive one...
- It's a Cobalt. I know everyone says it's way better than the Cavalier, but I'm sorry, I just couldn't care less about test driving one. I was actually enthusiastic about testing the Mazda 3 and 6 last time.
So I dunno. I don't think the seat time adds up to much - if any - more than an average 4-run local event, and the theme park conditions don't compare favorably. Not the bargain of a lifetime for people who autocross already. GREAT for a first taste of fast driving, though.
I'm not saying I won't go if I'm jonesing for AX that day, but I've already got three events scheduled for that month, and none of them cost $50. :)

And as the saying goes... when you have THAT many runs in the car, city after city, event after event, every hour a few runs... you had BETTER be fast! :) Don't forget... the 'competitors' only got 2 runs on the comp course... how many did he have, every hour? Every day? That one time, he was off for those two runs he set the time in that hour when Karter beat him in Houston.
And Jason got 6th in STX at the 2004 SCCA Nationals codriving Mike Kings WRX. He did trophy. Not knocking him, he's a top rated driver. :)
--kC ('03 MRIU Boston Winner / '04 MRIU New York Winner... Jason didn't 'compete' at the finals.... that was the 20 city winners only. There was nothing Jason had to 'compete' for.)

Ouch, I'm looking at $80 for both my GF and I to go. That seems a little steep. I'm still on the fence about this one.

FYI - The 1st 100 registered for each event get a discounted rate of $40.

Me too. I was at first all gung-ho, but $40 for 2 autoX runs and some cheesy instruction is just not worth it. I'm sure it's a great event for beginners & the Daddio's looking to pick up a free car! :p ;)

this is way better than Mazda's rev it up IMO. Why? because the Mazda 6 is a nice car for the price but it was still FWD and its sporty for its class but not that sporty overall(I went to the mazda one so I'm speaking from experience). Not a fan of the cobalt/ion SS but they are pretty decent I guess, im pretty much just looking forward to the corvette.

Mazda 6 in '03 and the Mazda 3 in '04. Mazda 3 and Cobalt = same market.

I signed up for this a few weeks ago for mid-July, with my girlfriend and I.
In the past I've done similar events with Cadillac. While there were long lines, it was totally worth it to beat on a car that isn't yours. The so called "pro's" that ride along with you are not pro's at all, but probably local Auto-X junkies.
Just keep in mind this is a marketing thing more then anything. It's not real seat time, as you are like cattle to them. Get in, drive, don't crash, and get out.
But for the price to beat up on a car you would not normally drive, and get a broader experience of what's out there (or in this case, what you compete against) it's totally worth it. :)

1st city is in the books.
S. Cali was won by a Novice. Will Kalman (Ex-sts, FSP Escort Auto-xer) won the ProClass.
Any reports from the field??? :)

Bump. Brolliar won Fl. and Telehowski won Chicago.
NY is this weekend. :) So far, no one has 3-peated.
Will NY be the 1st city to see a 3-peat with yours truly as returning champ taking it? Or will some unknown with the names of Ho-Kim or Whipple be the victors and rip away the championship from this old mans hands?
Only time will tell.

I won a pin and a hat for my early Saturday club session - scored in the low 500s. It was my first time 'competing' after doing a driving school a few months ago.
I had fun but a few things were annoying. You can drive C6 autos in the SS test drive. They cycle between the same and Impalas in the tire adhesion or something. I got the Impala SS. BTW I think the people who smoked the tires off the line in the Impala/Monte Carlo SSs looked like idiots.
I had paid an extra $10 for hot laps as a passenger in the Z06 but that was not available due to limited space. Got 2 extra practice laps, which weren't on the same course as the timed ones.
Also the ambulance got there like 90 minutes late so there was no driving for any one during that time. Consequently, I spent a good hour sitting in one of the show cars waiting for them to show up. So maybe don't sign up for the first session of the day.
The staff said people in FL couldn't drive but TX had some good drivers.
