essteaeye 02-18-2006 10:55 PM

Krylon ULTRA flat black. It used to be with Krylon Semi Flat black and it was glossy, not s203'ish imo...
Blk_on_Blk_Wgn 02-18-2006 11:17 PM

essteaeye 02-18-2006 11:38 PM

Took the HVAC controls apart and disconnected the knob and painted it.
Took the HVAC controls apart and disconnected the knob and painted it.
Have any details on how you did that? How were you able to keep the indications or whatever on the face of the HVAC knobs?
InvertedB 02-19-2006 01:00 PM
Have any details on how you did that? How were you able to keep the indications or whatever on the face of the HVAC knobs?
Probably just taped over the indicators when he went to spray paint it.

Looks great, can't wait to see it when there's a new HU in it as well.
hybooststi 02-19-2006 01:22 PM

essteaeye 02-19-2006 01:24 PM

BIGSKYWRX 02-19-2006 03:27 PM

The flat black looks good :)
djcttb 02-19-2006 06:01 PM

essteaeye 02-19-2006 06:36 PM

I used a sharpie (ultra fine point) a few times over...

Thanks guys, I got the paint from kmart.
InvertedB 02-19-2006 07:09 PM

I like where you mounted your Defi control unit, looks good there.
wagonmasta 05-04-2006 07:47 PM

i've tried many diff paints..... the krylon ultra-flat works the best! they say its "camoflauge" paint for deer stands and shi like that... i'll post pics when finished
TooLow67 05-04-2006 09:19 PM

do you happen to have any more pictures of the semi-gloss black? i like it
projectrally 05-04-2006 10:22 PM

RUrunning 05-05-2006 02:53 AM

THAT'S AMAZING!!!! you get 435.0 miles on a single tank?
sheepdog 03-13-2007 11:50 AM

Did the OP tape off the center section of the hvac knobs, or remove the rings? I can't seem to figure out how to take the rings off to remove the little orange tab.
Capt Crunch 03-13-2007 12:02 PM

Looks nice, but I would have used spray-on Pasti-dip, leaves a nice rubberized finish.
LightWerkz 03-13-2007 12:12 PM

damn talk about old school! Still under my old name :)
sheepdog 03-13-2007 12:18 PM

That plasti-dip stuff looks sick, but I can only find it in yellow :(

sauuce 03-13-2007 02:04 PM

How on God's earth did you paint the HVAC buttons?!
those were purchased right?

Looks good, but i think in the S203/204 the HVAC knobs are silver.

sheepdog 03-13-2007 02:39 PM

They are. I just want mine to be black, and match the STi limited or s203 knobs.

Oh, and omg those seats are incredible!
Rippen Griffen 03-13-2007 09:01 PM

Have you seen the Black STi A-line seats...nice! And the knobs are chromed!
WRXjp93 03-13-2007 09:08 PM

LOL @ the senior citizen teardrop placard in the windsheild...do people in america actually put those things on their cars on a regular basis?
Rippen Griffen 03-13-2007 09:12 PM

^^^^ Doh!!! Nice catch! That is too funny!
B00st3dWRX 03-13-2007 10:16 PM

not to regular but I got a buddy overseas that send me random cool stuff.....so I dont complain. + is means either an elder/advanced driver. Ive been racing for 17 yrs, started out on go-karts. So I would say im definately not a beginner.
Rippen Griffen 03-14-2007 08:26 AM

I found this quote on fastwrx.com --> "According the Japanese driving manual:

There are symbols that represent certain kinds of drivers in Japan. Elderly drivers have to display the orange and yellow welfare symbol (fukushi mark), also known as the maple leaf symbol (momiji mark). If you notice that a driver has one of these marks, please be a considerate driver and treat them with special care. Do not tailgate (follow too closely) or change lanes suddenly. "
B00st3dWRX 03-14-2007 03:12 PM

thats right dont tailgate me or i'll box you off and punchout your lights hahahaha j/k who the F cares bro...what are you trying to say im old!!!!!!
kirkeemonster 03-14-2007 06:19 PM

I think subarugenuineparts has red hazard too
B00st3dWRX 03-14-2007 06:33 PM

For all the JDM "experienced" drivers. One can be suctioned to a window and the other can be mounted to a metal surface (magnetic badge).

and :

For all the JDM novice drivers. One can be suctioned to a window and the other can be mounted to a metal surface (magnetic badge).
That plasti-dip stuff looks sick, but I can only find it in yellow :(
What is this plasti-dip stuff and who makes it?
sheepdog 03-14-2007 07:31 PM

google it, that's what I did. It's meant to coat tool handles and stuff
GC_Anthony 03-14-2007 08:48 PM

Googled it. That is exactly what i have been looking for to do my cars interior. Going to get some tomorrow.
sheepdog 03-14-2007 08:56 PM

Let me know how it goes, I probably won't have the time to spray my trim till this weekend.
GC_Anthony 03-14-2007 09:40 PM

Ill report back.
dom06 03-15-2007 02:22 AM

anyone who has done this ever armorall those painted peices?
i just did and now it looks really glossy and i was just wondering if it will go back to a good looking flat again.
i used the ultra flat black like the OP...it was funny because i went out in the morning a couple days ago when i decided to do this and bought that kind of paint, then before i actually painted it i saw this thread so i was like sweet i bought the right paint!
sheepdog 03-15-2007 03:03 AM

lol. I'm guessing it will eventually go back to flat, kind of like how the shine on your dash slowly fades eventually. However, if you want it to stay flat, I'd not armorall it anymore.
loudaccord 03-17-2007 11:01 AM

I tried flat black wrinkle paint and..... well.... it didn't wrinkle and it isn't flat LOL

I'm going to re-do it with the plasti-dip.

here is what it looks like now...

I painted my hazard button too :)

edit: I saw a lot of questions where to buy the plasti-dip in black spray... Summit actually has the best price..

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=pld-11203-6

edit: holy crap it's expensive to ship!
LeeC 03-17-2007 11:10 AM

looks good!
JohnnyWas 03-18-2007 01:18 AM

hmmm -- what can one say?

awesome!!
gslben 03-18-2007 08:08 PM

Still wish I knew how those knobs were painted and the Icons kept white while the knob was painted black. They're too tiny to tape off.....????
sheepdog 03-18-2007 08:18 PM

It's been said several times..... they aren't. They're the JDM s204 hvac centers, which are black.
loudaccord 03-18-2007 08:43 PM

any idea where the centers can be purchased?
sheepdog 03-18-2007 09:49 PM

japanparts or other JDM vendors should be able to source them for you from subaru of japan. You can also get the dark grey ones from the 07 STi limited through subarugenuineparts
gslben 03-19-2007 02:07 AM

Thanks Sucka !!
g3ninfinite 03-19-2007 03:49 AM

the red hazard button looks great
loudaccord 03-19-2007 06:41 AM

Just sent both places an email, I'll report back. Thanks!
loudaccord 03-20-2007 06:38 AM
