JRho had 2 DNFs his 1st two runs.. I'm sure that plays a part in the slow time he's got.
I'm rooting for Wilson to shake up HS this year. Woot!
Tom ran over 8 tenths faster than the field on day 2
Oh come on, it was only 6 tenths:D
I had an awful day on Saturday, having to sit on a very mediocre 1st run. Today was much better and I held the top time until Mr. Kenna's blistering last run.
Hopefully I'll drive better next weekend!
Jeff Barco just dominated STX and James Wilson looked great all weekend.

Jason had mechanical problems with his own SM car, and couldn't get it running for the weekend.
He ran SM on day 1 in the STU Evo that was also run by Jason Uyeda (STU) and Ann Donahue (STUL). The car was on the Yoko Neovas, not R compounds. He ran a pretty nice time (for STU), but he basically brought a knife to a gunfight.
I'm not sure why he didn't run at all on day 2...

Look at the DSP times. This is why AWD will never win SM as long as someone has one of them Bimmers around.

I like how the fairly untested* 07 Miata of Ron wins CSP against stiff competition...and beats BSP too.
*Ron has been running the car in the NW, but this was the first NAtional event for it, and Jim Daniels didn't seem entirely certain it would faster than his '94 CSP car they ran last year.

Don't be entirely certain of that. My car will not be close to the same as it was 2 years ago. We will find out soon enough though.

Overcast mostly. Partly cloudy for Saturday afternoon, very little sun on Sunday. Breezy all weekend. The surface never heated up much at all. Keeping heat in the tires was tough for 2-driver cars, basically impossible for single driver cars.

The top twelve consisted of:
4 CSP
3 F125
3 CS
1 DM
1 DSP
What's that in common? Oh yeah, they're almost all small NARROW lightweight vehicles. :)
Much kudos to Ken Motonishi for putting a relatively big heavy Bimmer into the top 5 PAX standings.

I was working the section that was changed. They made the change right before the start of heat 4. The ground was breaking up and the shifter carts hadn't run yet. They softened the right hander (two pointer cones) by about 2 feet. It did allow people to carry more speed through that section.
| BlkWRXWag | 03-19-2007 02:56 PM |
They were publicly talking about changing about another part of the course at lunch, which they ended up not doing.
The change I'm talking about was not announced at all, so many people would not have known about it, but I think it was worth a couple of tenths.

Over on SCCAForums, it was explained that the decision was made to forego the course walk for two main reasons -- the change was favorable to the drivers, and they wanted to get the entire day's runs in before dark.
I'm sure the decision wasn't made lightly, but it was probably fair for everyone. It does make it difficult to compare between different run groups, but that's never been guaranteed (for instance if it rains).

the whole race weekend was great....congrats to jeff barco for taking the stx class.....i also raced on sat and sunday in stu with a 06 wrx with no suspension work besides a sway bar and tires and did ok....sat wasnt too good to me but i did do very well on sunday.....i've heard some people say that the 06 wrx cant be competitive in the stu class but i beg to differ....on saturday jeff barco with a 05 wrx that has the 2.0 came within a few 10ths of a second of the leader in the stu class when hes in stx....i was able to pull off a 61.885 on sunday when the best time of the day in stu was 57.8....a 4 second difference isnt too bad considering my car has no suspension work and this was my second autocross race.....i just want to say that people who drive the 06 wrx shouldnt worry about going up agains the sti's and evo's in stu.....on a course like this weekend both the evo's and sti's had to shift to 3rd when i could stay in second....thats a huge advantage for the wrx....i cant wait to get suspension so i can go head to head with them.....again congrats to everyone this weekend....the races were great:banana:

It's going to be a while before I can get my photos done. Here are a couple, with a link to a few more:

Max's totally overdriven (as he'll admit) 2nd run on Sunday ... after over doing the start slalom. He also hit a cone in the last slalom and at the finish:
....i've heard some people say that the 06 wrx cant be competitive in the stu class but i beg to differ....on saturday jeff barco with a 05 wrx that has the 2.0 came within a few 10ths of a second of the leader in the stu class when hes in stx....i was able to pull off a 61.885 on sunday when the best time of the day in stu was 57.8....a 4 second difference isnt too bad considering my car has no suspension work and this was my second autocross race.....i just want to say that people who drive the 06 wrx shouldnt worry about going up agains the sti's and evo's in stu.....on a course like this weekend both the evo's and sti's had to shift to 3rd when i could stay in second....thats a huge advantage for the wrx....i cant wait to get suspension so i can go head to head with them.....again congrats to everyone this weekend....the races were great:banana:
Jason, congrats on the Pace contingency, come sept, I hope you get lucky enough to win it.
I would also like to congradulate Greg Peng on good job taking third. I do believe it is his best so far at a National event and I know he has been working hard and drove well in SD.
Sebastian Rios had a very unlucky weekend... He has been kicking my behind lately at our regional events and it really took the pressure off when he didn't put down a clean run on Sat. Look out for Seb, he is a great driver and I really think he will be turning STX around this year. He thinks he is flying low under the radar, but I figured it was time to blow the whistle. :)
Carl Coleman unfortunately, was stuck with only half of a suspension setup, so he was limited as well to what was available to him.
In regards to how the 06 wrx would do against the sti. I have been running locally with Max and I can tell you that it is pretty difficult if not almost impossible, to match times with a well driven STI. The only reason I think some STX times were close to STU, is because of the SD course design. There were very few places in SD that allowed for any real aplication of full throttle. Mostly I found myself modulating throttle where I would of liked to be full throttle. It must of been the same for the stu cars, thus eliminating the big advantage they hold over the wrx. Take almost every other solo course, and the sti will smoke the wrx. In SD, the course was just filled with fantastic offsets and tight slaloms; it was narrow and put you into a turn just before you had the chance to really lay into the throttle. There were no real big braking zones and you could do more to screw yourself, then to make any big time improvements. All these characteristics really limited the sti and the other big power cars. Given a certain course design, I think the 2.5 wrx could fight the sti, but given the majority of the courses, I think it would be a frustrating battle.

Quoting Gary Thomason over on SCCAForums (and Gary has about as much experience at driving high powered cars at Qualcomm Stadium as anybody):
My GT3 only touched its power band exactly once (very briefly) on the entire course on Sunday - not that I needed any power as there were virtually no acceleration sections at all.

Thanks for the kind words, it means a lot coming from you.
Here's hoping you have to work next weekend. Just kidding, it's not the same event without your intensity.

According to those pictures, looks like you experience a tarmac rally if you get off line in SD :)
| PKer | 03-20-2007 06:07 PM |
It's a real shame that the lot is breaking up so bad. There are no plans to renovate the pavement since even if the Chargers stay in SD, it will be at a new stadium which means a covered parking structure and more shopping. Most think it will be 2 more years max that the lot is available.

Jason ... there are still a few openings in Team Blew (Barco, Seb, Greg, Max, Pete Loney, etc.) ... you should join us and take advantage of all of the mistakes we've already made. ;)
Are we going to see you at our local CSCC AX on the 1st of April at CA Spdwy?

Why drive all the way to San Diego when you can race the best at CA Speedway in our CSCC Champ event on Sunday? Usually the top STU guys come up from San Diego to drive in our events so that they can race against Max and Mike S, and now Roman plus Chris Teague in STU.
You have shown the necessary speed to belong to Team Blew, besides hopefully having a pro-rated $30 for the rest of the years dues. The $30's is the real clincher. :D
By being a Team Blew member you automatically get entry into our hosted events, plus use of our corner balancing scales and Team Blew member expertise and help, T-shirts, free pro-photo coverage, etc.

Over 900 photos from the San Diego Tour ... mostly "unprocessed." The first few are enlarged, cropped, exposure corrected so one can see what's possible. There are a few shots later one with the unprocessed shot together with a processed shot:

There's nothing wrong with Flexs.... just that there are many more custom pieces available now that are not only lighter, but can be more finely tuned like the ZZYZX setup, moreso than OTS units.

It's a natural progression for wanting to go faster on a national level. You just need the additional quality and added adjustments, plus Steve's customer service is awesome, try talking to a Tein rep about what settings you should try with anything other than the rates the Tein's came with.
I ran on Flex's last year, they were good, but I wanted even better.
My 0.02
edit: +1 on Navid's sexy car, what tire spec was he running? looks good, like the widebody
