Heh sounds like just another twist in the story line of "As the Nascar Turns". You gotta keep the rednecks all worked up with some drama here and there to keep everyone talking about the "sport" lol. I think they levied the fine on him only to help juice up the grand finale of the "points chase". Just think, a few weeks ago everywhere I looked it was people upset about Tony Stewart. (God how do I pick this stuff up?) Its sheer marketing and one should only look as far as WWF to see that this is a male gasoline burning soap opera.
I agree with this guy............It was all a setup...It was fixed...A marketing scam to draw a bigger audience to the points chase. :alien: :alien: :alien:
Ever since I saw the Pepsi 400 where Jr. just "happened" to win on the anniversary of his fathers death, I knew NASCRAP was fixed.
WWF is a great comparison IMO...........
And NO..I am NOT am elitist...just dont like NASCAR....
Lets talk about mudboggin...................... :D :D
I think its clear to see by their comments ( Gary S. & Phat04 ) that they are both indeed influenced by how we all percieve things.
Gary makes a stronger point because its clear to me that Phat04 states that he saw this and he saw that and this movie and that....and guess what, in his current perception, things are just this way and its OK. Makes you wonder how Phat04 may have responded to Gary's viewpoint had he never viewed the extravagant list of violence and obscenity, etc at a youthful age.
No generalizations define anyone, and I'm not sniping at Phat04....but I think its clearly been established (in other venues of course) that we are LARGELY influenced by our environment, especially at a young age.
I wasn't allowed access to R material in any medium at a young age. Sure I knew all the bad words, knew about boobs, etc, etc....but I wouldn't think of EVER using that language when I was a kid. Why? (1) It wasn't plastered on prime-time TV shouting out loud to any one that watched it that:"...hey, see there, we, the US society, think this is perfectly normal and exceptable...." (2) If I did throw the words around, severe consequences from my parents, teachers, neighbors...all of whom did not consider it perfectly normal in my childhood era....
What's wrong with "SH$T" on prime time telly: IMHO, a certain lack of self respect, control and restraint, and a lack of view of the "bigger picture".
Next we'll have hero's like the president or your family doctor or a cop talking to you at home or on TV or in their office, mixing in obscenities here and there, just for effect.
"Gee golly BriDrive, that [emailprotected] sonafabiatchin tumor get any bigger and I'm gonna have to....." Err....OK Doc..............
A president in the future (Democrat :) ) state of the union address: "...I have spoken to Congress, and we're gonna march in their and tear them Fuc*!%ng Basta*^s a brand new poopshooter...."

1st off don't ASSume to know what my perception is. You have to re-read my posts I NEVER said it was ok. I said deal with it.
2ND yes environment does have a big influence especially at a young age. My cousing was raised opposite of how I was. No cussing, no rated R movies, mommy and daddy always shielding him etc. And I had to defend that pu$$ie$ a$$ in school just about everyday (I started learning how to box when I was 4). I disagree with the way they raised him, they pu$$ified him and to this day the guy doesn't know how to stand up for himself he's always too nice and is a pushover. He knows this and will admit to it.
3rd if you are learning from TV what's perfectly normal then your parents aren't doing a good job. If your kids accept what's on tv as normal then you're not doing your job. TV wasn't invented to raise your kids for you. It's a form of entertainment and $h!t will happen on TV again. deal with it.
Now as for what's wrong with saying $h!t on primetime well I don't think it's that big a deal. I think guys and girls running around in their underwear in a ring and hitting each other with chairs over the head is worse but that isn't banned? why not? they argue they don't talk things through they just fight but TV and america says it's ok so it must be. The sad thing is that you accept what the FCC says is ok and what isn't. There is much much worse going on in the world of television but no one is giving them a fine because TV says it's ok. How's that for a bigger picture? the word $h!t should be the least of your concerns in primetime.
I just realized you said "heroes" like the president     If you see the president as your hero I don't know why I even bothered responding to you

Your attitude reinforces my point. ;)
And the point I made is of course you don't see anything wrong with it...that's all you've known and been surrounded by for a long time.
The examples I listed....were examples...role models....are you familiar with those....pretty standard stuff...........
As far as dealing with it....we all "deal with it"....everyday. I love how many utes are walking around today acting like they're 25 and talking the talk and trying so hard to be tough and all grown up....sex at 12, cursing out adults and teachers....complete lack of respect....
Where's it all coming from? Our society, our values, our parenting, and the general slip in self governance of all forms of media that directly impact kids today...who have direct access to it.......
Its not cosmopolitan, its not Euro chic, its not maturity...its none of these things. Its the readily accessible media (TV,music, internet, radio) selling out with complete disregard for its impacts on the influence of society.
If you can't see that televising Dale yelling $hit on primetime TV tells everyone in our society that we readily accept that as OK, then you still aren't getting the point.
Its not necessarily about what we can or can't do (freedom of speech), its about what we SHOULD or SHOULDN'T DO.
Oh, and I'm done with you too....................BriDrive

But I don't have an attitude? So I don't know how that reinforces your point?
I'm familiar with role models but not big on them the best role model is YOU as a parent. The president as a hero thing just cracked me up because of how this "president" of ours conned us into going into a war against a country that has never attacked us never threatened to and didn't have WMD. <~~~this was a million times worse why the Fu<K didn't someone fine his @$$? He didn't cuss, TV said it was true but what do you know the "hero" was wrong and the networks were wrong. Who's going to fine him and deduct him 25 points for sending our troops to die and the killing of innocent Iraqi's?
As far as me being sorrounded by it for so long. Again you ASSume. I grew up in these neighborhoods and around all this negativity I have since moved away from it and haven't lived there for over 15 years. and have made a good living for myself and family since I learned many tough lessons growing up. My parents taught me that just becasue it's on TV doesn't mean it's ok. Why is it so hard for you to understand this? TV loves controversy they will continue to do it it's a billion dollar industry you think it's going to stop? It's not going to stop unless we go into a dictatorship and there's some nut trying to tell us what is right and wrong to watch.
I was raised correctly and it was different from what you beleive is the right way to raise a kid. My parents didn't blame TV for society being as screwed up as it is, they used all the bad stuff that I saw to teach me valuable lessons about life and how cruel it can be... it's reality. I coach pop warner, I go back to my old neighborhood and talk to young adults and kids about staying out of gangs joining sports. What do you do for society in your world? walk around being pist about how today "yutes" act "tough" and cry on a forum about Dale saying $h!t on tv. If you do help society in some way I and society greatly appreciate it (not being sarcastic) because the help is needed. Although I think going out and being a big brother, coaching a team, talking to kids about life and explaining to them what's right what's wrong and why is a much bigger help than you sitting here whinning (sp?) about the word *******.
you know why all these youths are walking around today acting tough? the parenting wasn't up to par with how messed up society is today. I've said there is much worse out there than saying $h!t why is it that you choose this to cry about a word?
:furious: < don't act like this. We're having a conversation just because we have different points of view on things doesn't mean you need to get upset. I was raised tough and grew up tough. I work in the corporate world (television ironically enough) I get along with my co-workers, I'm very well liked (at least I'm pretty sure, but then again I work with actors :p ) I was taught what was right and what was wrong at a very young age and I think it's helped me a great deal in the corporate world and in the street. The difference with me and someone who was raised blindfolded as to how screwed up society really is, is that I can deal with a situation in a civil way but I also will F^%K you up if you try to steal my wallet or my subie ;)
If your way is so right then why are you done with me? You can't have a heated conversation with a street kid that was raised differently than you? Did TV and society teach you that you can't talk about things if you don't agree? what's wrong with this picture?
P.S. BriDrive/GarySheenan no hard feelings we just have different points of view. Phat04WRX = lots of love for fellow Subaru owners.

Phat,
You're guilty of almost every offense you accuse BriDrive of. You're making ASSumptions about him or her based solely on the responses.
You do have an attitude. Its screaming out loud and angry in your responses.
You're being self righteous and judgemental about him or her.
Your "tough lessons" aren't requisite for growing up the right way.
Your "contributions" to society would seem make you more aware of the influences facing kids today, not less.
He or she makes a great point about the media self governance and can vs. should and you blow right pass that.
You appear to believe society has no control over how good or bad the world can be. According to you it just is.
And there's a big difference between what you choose to pay for and watch and listen to in your house and what flows freely over the airwaves, or wires. Its not FCC dictatorship, its common decency and common sense.
Your Whining more than ANYONE on this thread.
Gary Sheehan's long gone from "debating with you"
BriDrive appears to be done also.....
Maybe you can shake up some more trouble in this thread by taking up points with some of the others.
