STi Replica Grille part 1

SonicYellowWRX 09-05-2002 02:41 AM

STi Replica Grille CHEAP!!

but i dont know anything about this company... they do have many replica parts that claim perfect fitment that look and are said to be perfect... is this too good to be true??

http://www.gtspec.com/whatsnew.asp
DanD 09-05-2002 12:56 PM

So R U going to be the guiny pig and buy it first. I would ask them if U can send it back if it isn't a perfect fit.
SonicYellowWRX 09-05-2002 01:44 PM

i would if i had the money... BUT i dont. just spent a good amount of money on a CF STi Lip.
ian22b 09-05-2002 03:28 PM

Something seems a bit off on their prices, how could they offer a 22B body kit for 1500 dollars? That is 4 fenders, front and rear bumpers... If they can do it that is one great deal....
BurntJamb 09-05-2002 07:00 PM

ABS plastic...

I've been waiting for a replica of the STi grill just like this. A couple of things:

I noticed that there is no block in the middle of the mesh for an emblem. I don't really care about this though.

What kind of issues are there with ABS plastic for exterior body parts? It seems to me that the material would hold up okay under normal conditions (heat from engine, sun, moisture/temp changes, etc.) but what about a rock hitting the grill? Would it just cause the thing to shatter since ABS plastic is very hard and unforgiving (I think)?

Someone buy it, paint it, and let us know! :p

CTKAG 09-05-2002 08:30 PM

I wonder about attachment. The STi grille has a top plastic that has clips to attach to radiator support. The replica's top piece only looks like support for the mesh. $120 for the replica - plus maybe $50 to get painted. Another $50 or so gets you the real deal.
SonicYellowWRX 09-05-2002 09:44 PM

actually the real deal is about $260... ;)

so someone order from these guys and let us all know how it goes!!!:D
CyC 09-06-2002 12:50 AM

Or you could just get:

for 129$ =)

well thats not the same grille, for one...

and it is backordered. ;)
CyC 09-06-2002 10:26 AM

"8/5/02 Availability update: Backordered until mid-late August. "

Maybe it's available now? Also, that seemed to be the grill some people above were looking for with the spot to place the subaru emblem. Also, I believe fastwrx.com is a fairly reputable company.

$1500 for a 22B kit and it weighs 0 pounds? Intresting... So it's made out of air? Somebody take one for the team and buy this to see if its for real.

If the ABS plastic used in bodykits have the same properties as the ABS plastic used in mid 80's radio control cars, then I would say that they should hold up very well to rocks etc. I have some off-road rc cars that use ABS plastic for the chassis, gearbox, double-wishbones, uprights, bumper, etc., and they are quite durable, considering what they have gone through.
SonicYellowWRX 09-07-2002 10:36 PM

i emailed them. they said it fits perfect and I have some pictures they sent me that look pretty good. if someone wants to host it, then give me your email and I will send it to you. The price is definitely good and they offer a group buy pricing for even better prices.
MJU1983 09-08-2002 02:07 AM

i will host em... email me

What do you think? I kinda like the no logo center... i just like how the center grille pertrudes out further, giving it a sleeker look.
Edvig 09-08-2002 07:56 AM

SonicYellowWRX,

You should post this question in the Tri-State. The car is the pictures is from Metric which is in Long Island. There are a couple of guys who hang out in the Tri-State that work for Metric. Maybe they know whose car it is in the pictures and could shine more light on gtspec. :)

WOW:eek:

What a tremendous weight savings on those 4 into 1 headers:D

25hp and 0 pounds:p That absolutely amazing:D Im going to get 2 sets for my car:lol:
Vigorous 09-08-2002 04:20 PM

I like the grill. But its starting to look nothing like the STI. Is it just me, or are the outside side pieces weird shaped?
BTW, grill reminds me of Liberal grill.
Capt Crunch 09-08-2002 05:27 PM

Wow, I really really like that grill. I just might get it.
SonicYellowWRX 09-08-2002 05:51 PM

well they seem legit enough... they been importing subaru parts and tons of rice for Honda's and SUV's... this is their first step into the world of retail!

I would order from them... if I had the money. STi grille or not, thats what I am looking for. Group buy pricing for 10 orders is dirt cheap!! In the viscinity of $50-$60 a grille! If you order from them, let us all know.;)
Capt Crunch 09-08-2002 06:32 PM

$50-60 for a GB of 10 people? I'm in, right now, lets get this working.

I did mention to him that there are potentially many people interested, which is why he gave me groupbuy pricing as well. If you want to set-up something, then by all means go for it. My next couple mods will be performance oriented so I wont be getting one for a long time.

EDITED for mis-communicated info.
djerickd 09-08-2002 08:16 PM

Only $55? for the replica STi grill? Sweet! When's the GB?

Also ask him about the STi replica front lips!
Silverscoob 09-08-2002 09:55 PM

I'd be very much in on a group buy for 55$...

just tell me where to sign... :)
Capt Crunch 09-08-2002 10:23 PM

I sent the guy an e-mail asking for info about a group buy for the grill and front lip. Oh man, $55 for an awesome grill... I hope the GB price for the lip is good too. Keep this up guys, I wanna make this happen!
djerickd 09-09-2002 07:48 AM

Lip! Lip! What a bout the lip!!??!?!!?
gossamer_monster 09-09-2002 10:14 AM

I just wanted to give a thumbs up for Mark. :)

I bought a replica zerosport air splitter from him. I paid a great price, I can`t imagine the actual zeroport piece to be any better quality. The replica was beautiful, looked like laser cut pieces, nice welds.

Fast friend service.

I`ve never seen the replica body parts but if they are anything like the air splitter they are well worth the price.

If I was in the market for more body parts, I probably would by from gtspec.com.

I am also interested in the grill... group buy!
Capt Crunch 09-10-2002 09:10 PM

superhawk44 09-10-2002 10:34 PM

DO IT!

Lets start a list,I want a grill and a lip, lets start the group buy list and get these soon. Do they paint too? That would be too good to be true. CHRIS......:alien:
Onlnagent 09-10-2002 11:52 PM

Yeah, I'd be interested in a lip/grill combo painted.
Capt Crunch 09-11-2002 07:11 PM

yeah, a combo would be great. Any idea how long it'll take to get these things in stock and ready to go? I'm really eager to give my car a makeover.

I personally don't care if it's painted or not, just want it now. :)
128d 09-11-2002 09:52 PM

I likie that hood scoop. Does anyone know if its bigger or smaller than the STi?

2003WRX 09-12-2002 11:48 AM

gtspec, can you offer the grille painted? If so, how much more? Thanks!
:)
nicktckhoo 09-12-2002 12:20 PM

Yup,

Painted grills please. $40 is reasonable. I am in if this pans out.

Cheers

Nick
Tobey 09-12-2002 12:31 PM

someone needs to start a list with a goal of 20 GAURENTEED people, then we can all contact to get he $69 price.

gtspec: is that $69 price shipped? i can't imagine shipping being anymore than $6-7 on that grill. is it safe to say $75 shipped?

if so let's start a list post if you have the $$ and are ready to buy, let's get the 20, looks like we can have 10 without even trying.

if you couldn't already tell, i'm in:lol:
WRoX 09-12-2002 02:53 PM

One more added to the list of 'Interested People' - looking at the grill & lip combo ...

Gtspec, will you be able to pre-paint these ??

Is anyone starting a GB thread on this ?

~Prabu
cball2211 09-12-2002 05:57 PM

Add me to the list of grill and lip. Damn finally an STI lip replica for a good price. Are there only 10 made of the lip or are you going to get an additional shipment?
2003WRX 09-12-2002 06:47 PM

If we can get them prepainted, it'll be no problem to get AT LEAST 20 people. Personally, I hate buying stuff thats not already painted. Its too much of a pain in the a$$ for me to go try and get that done on my own with every little piece I buy for the car... :D I am waiting to hear back on this. If its painted for a "reasonable" amount of $, count me in.

I'm up for the grill not painted...how much to ship to canada?
Tobey 09-13-2002 09:51 AM

i have pm'ed the vendor. i will try to undertake the groupbuy for grills only, unpainted. i'm trying to keep this simple and pain free so i'm not dealing with the front lips or painting, it will be too hard to organize.

i will post everything when i have details.

You have to be a vendor to post a group buy, and Gtspec has already stated that he does not have the time/manpower to coordinate a group buy.

if that doesnt work out, i may be able to buy in bulk and sell it to you... but i am assuming that my cost will be more than GT Specs cost, since I have to buy it and distribute... so my extra cost would have to be passed on to all of you. if it dont work out let me know and i will front the $1000 or so and set it up, but more than likely it wont be $69 a grille.:(

They have them in stock now.....

It has a spot for the standard subaru emblem. The STi emblem is not included, the metal mesh and mounting kit is.

i spoke with gtspec and it looks like pricing *IF* we can get the groupbuy started will be about $85 shipped, which is about $50 off their list which is very nice. i have talked with the vendor and i have emailed the dude that runs the sight to try to get permission to get this ball rolling. i figure it IS a vendor doing the buy, i'm just taking care of the bid-ness, so hopefully (fingers crossed) everything will be set to go. if i get confirmation from the i-club honchos that all is cool, i will pm everyone who has shown interest and start things up. if not maybe your option will be the way to go. hopefully i will know sometime monday.

everyone is ignoring my emails so i guess it's a no-go. i haven't received a reply.

we need another plan, like somone with enough room on a credit card to buy a batch and sell them individually. i would but i don't own a credit card (they were forged from the devil himself).

if anyone comes up with something please pm me. i am willing to help out in organizing this thing and i am into buying one as well.

Why not just start a thread in the "Group Buy" section? Either I-club member or the Vendor.
