STI Scoop on a Supra. what do you think?

My question to you is what do you think about the looks? It will be a functional scoop, but I'd like to know your opinion on form. Flame away :)
Thanks

Don't do it.
Don't hack up a supra to install a STi scoop.. I'm sure they make supra hoods with scoops designed more in tune with the lines of the supra.. but it's your car, so mod it till yer hearts content.
Good Luck

I wish I could attach pics so you could see :(
No hoods with scoops for the supra. There is a stock euro one(had it on my car before), but it is so tiny it could be swallowed up by a stock WRX hood scoop.
Thanks for the input though, that's what I'm looking for :)

the best part is we spoke to the owners friend when he came to get something. (we think he was the owner and didn't want to admit it) we asked if it was fast, his answer
"damn right it is!!"
whats the engine?
"5.0, why what you got?"
just that (pointing to a yellow WRX wagon)
"LOL, you think that grocery getter would win? LOL, this is a mustang, not a honda!!"
I honestly laughed in his face...

but function is beauty.

Doesn't TRD make a hood with a scoop? I would think the millions they spent on product development means that it would be functional.
| Dragicon | 08-15-2006 11:08 PM |
why ruin a sleek profile and long hood with a scoop. It fits a wrx perfect, but not a supra.
| tw1zt1d | 08-15-2006 11:41 PM |
Supra looks good without the sti scoop, +1 for trying something different. Try custom fabing a scoop up, might look better then one off a different make. Definitely like it alot more though since it functions and does just sit there and do nothing.

I have a 94 supra turbo also... please do not ruin yours with a subi scoop. Its just way too large!!
| SiNzz | 08-16-2006 04:17 AM |
The STI scoop fits on the STI because it's so boxy. The supra is so curvy and sleep, it just looks wayyyy too out of place. I'm usually all for "function first" but that is crossing the line. I mean...you wouldn't put "speedholes" in the hood of your ferrari even IF it would cool better. The supra design is classic and awesome looking. Don't ruin it...pleaaaaase!

That mustang has a cowl induction scoop off an old school camaro on BACKWARDS.
| 2superblus | 08-16-2006 11:00 AM |
The real problem with the hood scoop is that you have an air vent directly in front of the scoop that vent is allowing hot air from the engine and the radiator to vent out of the eninge bay and sucked directly into the STI hood scoop you have mounted there so instead of fresh air you get heated air from your motor.

I had that scoop on my car and it works with a metal duct that channels cool air to the manifold(the head get hot betwen cylinders 3 and 4). It only really works when you have the stock turbos though. On single turbo car it is just for looks.
That pic you have is acutaly my friend who wrote the instructions to reto fit it on a USDM hood.

How is that functional?
having air drawn into the engine bay that way?
You know, when STi's get FMICs, its usually best to go reverse scoop or scoopless. Drag hot air OUT of the engine bay.

Was going to put a top mount oil cooler .
Scoopless is better than reverse at the location on the STI hood. High pressure where the windshield meets the hood will cause air to be drawn in not out. A couple people from this board have had underhood temps rise 10degreesC when removing the scoop and going to a reverse.

I'd go back and get a 02-03 WRX hood scoop, at least its round and flows with the car a bit better.
Arent there better places to put a oil cooler though? why disgrace the look of a Supra with that hideous hoodscoop?
