I'd go back and get a 02-03 WRX hood scoop, at least its round and flows with the car a bit better.
Arent there better places to put a oil cooler though? why disgrace the look of a Supra with that hideous hoodscoop?
NO MORE SCOOPS FOR ME
I had a huge oil cooler core and with the exception of V mounting my IC and radaitor it wouldn't really fit anywhere else. oh well.
Take a look at the newest WRC STI and note where the vent and scoop is.
They have always had it that way on every WRC Subaru since the 90's. If you look at a WRC Subaru the scoop is for the trademark look, most of the time it is blocked off and is not a functional scoop.
ps thank you for the backup Foxy.

Yuk, if you have to go with a hoodscoop, go with a low profile LGT, SRT-4 style.

Looks great!!! (If you like really ugly hoods) you must have been confused subaru scoops look questionable on subaru's and then you go to put it on a supra you just ruined a supra hood. Thats what I think
Was going to put a top mount oil cooler .
Scoopless is better than reverse at the location on the STI hood. High pressure where the windshield meets the hood will cause air to be drawn in not out. A couple people from this board have had underhood temps rise 10degreesC when removing the scoop and going to a reverse.
For the TM Oil cooler, I think some people have done it here before - but if the lines ever fail, then you leak oil directly onto a hot engine. I think someone's car caught on fire a few days after they did their TMOC due to leaky lines. I thought it was a really sweet idea at first too, but now that I've seen pictures of burnt cars, not so much... sucks too, because otherwise, it seems like a great place to put it.
I've heard the second part too.. if I ever go FMIC, I will just get an RS hood.
Don't do it.
Don't hack up a supra to install a STi scoop.. I'm sure they make supra hoods with scoops designed more in tune with the lines of the supra.. but it's your car, so mod it till yer hearts content.
Good Luck
Jason
Even after seeing the pics w/a mock up, doesn't look right, have you tried a WRX scooop, or maybe the new '06 scoop, maybe a lower profile will not look so out of place.. still, it's your car hack away as you please..
Good luck
Jason

please just sell me ur supra bc that is an absolutely hideous idea....
| Engmus | 08-16-2006 11:00 PM |
Well really, if it was suken into the hood abit more and the other hood mods weren't there it wouldn't be too awful.
take all the other crap off the hood and sink it down some and it might look decent.
You could always cut the hoods like some of the 240sx guys, or do the really out of style "Washers" trick to raise the end of the hood by the windshield.
The STI scoop fits on the STI because it's so boxy. The supra is so curvy and sleep, it just looks wayyyy too out of place. I'm usually all for "function first" but that is crossing the line. I mean...you wouldn't put "speedholes" in the hood of your ferrari even IF it would cool better. The supra design is classic and awesome looking. Don't ruin it...pleaaaaase!
Sleep? SLEEP?!!!

I've been tryin' to post a couple pics of an Infinty G35 coupe with one 9sti scoop)i recently saw and snapped in my home town...halarious i think!
How is that functional?
having air drawn into the engine bay that way?
You know, when STi's get FMICs, its usually best to go reverse scoop or scoopless. Drag hot air OUT of the engine bay.
Actually i think 2phless or soemone did air temps with reverse scoop vs. sti scoop and air was cooler with STI scoop. A shame... that thing is big and obnoxious but functional.
I think what would have "looked" better ont he supra and still been functional is a 550 maranello type scoop or this popular RX7 hood
