Thanks - I wanted something other than the standard "Suby logo"
It's amazing how many people don't "get it"
We even found the right Starsky & Hutch font for our names on the window.

Damn you Canuckistanian!!!! WE were gonna do the Starsky & Hutch stripe on our G2 Ford Probe GT. :furious:
Hmmmmmm...spy photos. Good eyes! Those are the shoes that Travis and I have been testing and developing. They will be available at retail in January of 2007. They were designed to look more like a skate shoe than a driving shoe...but, have all the bells and whistles of a typical driving shoe (Nomex, FIA & SFI certs, etc.)...plus some DC proprietary technology (more details later...too early to talk about that now). They are very comfortable (more padding and a heel cushion) than other driving shoes because of all the standing around that a typical rally requires. We are really proud of how they are turning out.
-KB
will they be water proof or at the very least water resistant?
i would assume you will be putting out a "subaru blue" version as well?

The shoes will not be water proof, but they are made from a very nice smooth type leather. We picked this material over the typical suede that most driving shoes are made from because of the adverse conditions of rally (rain, snow, mud, etc.)...it resists water absorption and can be easily cleaned and made to look like new again.
A Subie-blue colorway will be available in the Fall of 2007. Otherwise, the closest thing we will have is my obnoxious yellow/blue/navy colorway or a solid black colorway.

cool, i remember a rainy/snowy/wet LSPR a few years a ago and Doug Havir and Scott Putnam were wearing traditional driving shoes. Doug loved them. Scott didnt because he was the one who had to do all the walking around in the rain.
a model w/a layer of gore-tex would be pretty cool but i would imagine that would jump the cost to both you and the consumer a bit too much after allready adding nomex.
assuming lauchlin is driving CPD1 at the xgames you should hook him up w/a pair of the yellow ones to match the car.

I would bet that the Gore tex membrane and having them fire resistant would not work so well together.

Goretex is a porous PTFE. PTFE is a good high temperature material (TEFLON). There are a number of companies that make porous PTFE beside WL GORE which i would imagine should reduce the cost a bit.

I don't think we could do a Gore-Tex / NOMEX combo...plus, I was looking to cool the feet, not heat them. Most of the drivers I have spoken to have complained about hot feet...plus most average race cars have heaters for the colder events. Also, I sort of assume that there are more events in milder climates than the absolute cold. I am open to hear a difference of opinion if I am incorrect.

i wasnt thinking about heating as much as keeping dry.
Merrell does something in the tanning process that helps the leather dry faster and be more water resistant w/out the use of gore tex.
maybe we should start a "what would you like to see in rally shoes?" thread.
i would think that drivers and co drivers would have different needs for shoes as well.

For the Driver - what DC has just developed looks good - waterproofing of some type would be a bonus.
For the Co Driver - lots of traction - and waterproofing as well. And a built in tow strap dispenser! :D

They are very different, as you alluded to earlier (about Doug and Scott).
When I'm navigating I wear knobby treaded, water-proof, above-the-ankle, full on hiking boots. If the ATC is backed up, we get a flat or get stuck, or for waht ever other reason, I'm the one (as the navigator) that has to get out of the car, and if it's wet and/or slippery, I want/need something heavy-duty.
When I'm driving, on the other hand, on go the wrestling shoes (they were given to me years ago, so free=good). They are thin (material), so they are comfortable and are relatievly form-fitting, which allows allows me to roll my foot for heel-toe type action. They also have a narrow, but still hard (enough) bottom that is in two seperate parts, so I can really feel the pedals and where exactly my feet are. I do keep a pair of rubber booties ;) in the car to slip over them if I need to get out ans walk around in a mess.
I would like them to be a little more comfortable to walk around in for "extended" periods of time, butBut not at the expense of sacraficing the aount of feeling I have with them. Some kind of water proofing/resistance would really be the biggest improvement to them.
There's my $.02

Our shoes are specifically made for driving, but they should work pretty good for a co-driver. I say this for two reasons; 1; they have a sole that features a traction patterned bottom, and 2; they are cushioned in the mid-sole (and have a heel cushion) for normal walking/standing around (most driving shoes do not have any cushioning at all).
We were able to add these things without sacrificing much of the pedal feel. They have been working great for Travis and I, and even Tanner Foust has been using them for a while (hes wearing the black ones in that photo). They were designed with rally in mind, and even Tanner commented that he thought they are just a great shoe for most disciplines of driving.
Thanks for the THANK YOU. I appreciate it. We are doing everything we can. In fact, there is a big article about TP and I in the new C16 Magazine that is coming out in July. Travis car is on the cover! When was the last time you saw an American rally car as the BIG feature on the cover of a US motorsports magazine???
