Subaru driver Jamie Thomas in S.I. part 1

racerjon1 07-21-2005 06:42 PM

Subaru driver Jamie Thomas in S.I.
I just picked up this week's Sports Illustrated, and in my usually futile search for anything motorsports in the magazine I was pleasantly surprised.

Jamie Thomas has a VERY big article this week.

There is a lot on Jamie, a lot on rally style competition in general, some stabs at NASCAR, and Subaru is mentioned 22 times. (not including pictures)

It is really good to see the attention for Subaru, rally racing, (hell, something other than NASCAR) another side to the "girl racer" (not knocking Patrick, but she isn't the only one) and just Jamie and the "racing" mentality in general.

KC 07-21-2005 08:16 PM

Damn.. just missed the Swimsuit Edition!
MattDell 07-21-2005 08:18 PM

May pick this up as well.
Nutter 07-22-2005 11:57 AM

WTG !

ps. I think Jamie is hotter than D Patrick anyway ! :)
Jamie Thomas, who has a deep-blonde ponytail and looks as though she might weigh maybe 110 pounds in her helmet and fire suit, is explaining why she had air conditioning installed in her second rally race car. She's on a Seattle freeway, observing the speed limit, which irritates her. At the moment she's not in the race car, but since her street car is a throaty black Impreza five-speed with a massive spoiler, Thomas's general presence on Interstate 5 is having an interesting effect on certain other drivers, who feel that toying with her will be amusing. In this they are mistaken.
That's an awesome article!
Fred 07-22-2005 02:41 PM

That was awesome. :)
CirrusWRX 07-22-2005 03:20 PM

That was a tremendously enjoyable article to read!

w00t for coverage!!!!
GravelRash 07-22-2005 06:41 PM

Amen :D

Very cool writeup; does a pretty damn good job of capturing the spirit, and the action, especially by someone with no previous experience of the sport.

Of course any decent writer should be able to portray Jamie's personality fairly accurately...

Congrats!!
Skibum4444 07-22-2005 07:22 PM

no need to get SI now. :D
Calamity Jesus 07-22-2005 07:52 PM

Subie Gal 07-22-2005 10:04 PM

Holy copyright violation Batman!

From someone who makes a living from copyrights.

I'll buy the issue. Need a hard copy with pics of Jamies 15 minutes!
GravelRash 07-23-2005 03:27 AM

Yeah, I was thinking about that too... Everyone who reads those to posts of the article really ought to buy a copy of the mag.

And as much as I enjoyed reading it sooner rather than later it would probably be best if leecea edited the posts and removed the magazine content. We don't need SI getting po'd at Nasioc - or Jamie! - 'cause the content got posted here. (And there have certainly been similar instances resulting in lots of nasty interaction over Web posting of copyrighted content.)

Sweet article. Congrats on the exposure Jamie.

Jamie,

Congrats to you - and yes, to everyone who participates in or is a fan of rally! We all love our rally- and motorsports-specific publications but SI has a far wider reach than all of them. Hopefully this is a step in the direction for greater acceptance and participation in the sport.

Again, congrats!

I hope that's not true. That would be an excellent way to lose potential subscribers, IMO.

Congrats on the exposure, Jamie. You certainly deserve it, more than some who've been in the limelight of late.

Thumper23 07-23-2005 07:42 PM

I was wondering why I didn't see the article in SI at the market, thought I was looking at an old edition, oh well, drats

congrats though Jamie, this is the PR the sport needs
MU5A5HI 07-23-2005 08:39 PM

PR the sport needs?? I can't even buy it. WEAK S.I. Very weak.
GravelRash 07-24-2005 07:49 AM

The inside cover of the current newstand issue explains: it's the special Fantasy Football issue, and content got yanked to make room for it.

Yes, totally lame... :furious:

You're smoking crack
Jtree 07-24-2005 11:44 PM

fantasy football sucks. a real news article about a real sport gets shunted for a freek'n office betting "game"? next month a stirring expose on the exciting world of waste paper bin basketball? grr.

Ahhhh, that explains it. That does suck.

By the way, Jamie, my opinion of you has gone up a tick now that I know you're a soccer player, too. :)

I just read the article the other day congrats.
leecea 07-25-2005 07:33 AM

I was away all weekend and just saw that some people felt my post was inappropriate. It is gone now.

The funny thing is that I'm not even a subscriber. I think their Web site was having authentication problems that day and just giving open access to content.
WRXPRESS 07-25-2005 12:34 PM

congrats....I will be reading the article soon.

that is sooo cool.
