Got this at home, I can post it for a couple of downloads later, but same thing, it would kill my 4GB real quick.

Are there any penalties for playing bumper cars? There were a lot of bumping between the turboed AWD cars and the F-body cars.
STIeh 11-16-2005 08:56 PM

It's funny listening to the tires of the Black Camaro trying to hold on for dear life.

i got sea sick watching the driver saw back and forth at the wheel. seemed like the evo didn't give the cambird enough room. end of the first lap i think that same evo was the one that took out the 350z.

audio out of phase for me. about 1-2 seconds ahead of video.

350z exhaust note = teh h4wtn3ss

That was soooo frustrating, watching that rolling roadblock of an Evo holding up the Subie. I just wanted to reach out and smack him a good one!

joey1313 11-16-2005 11:49 PM

That was one of the best incar videos i've ever seen. Looks like the Evo slowed you down. Looks like you had chances to pass the camaro and the evo, but chose to back off at times and not risk hitting them. Although, the yellow one ran into you. Is their anything on that track that the f-body cars didn't hit? Seems they thought it was a Nascar race and wanted to rub anything that got close to them.
trhoppe 11-17-2005 09:51 AM

Some of your guys comments are too funny :)

I wonder if the Silver STi felt like either a pinball, or part of an F Body sandwich? Cause after that restart, it looked like the gloves came off.

Yes, that EVO was blocking, but we all know the rules - if he is in that part of the track and in front of you, he owns that real estate. It is up to the passing car to get by him in a SAFE manner. Though if this were a BTCC (TOCA) race, he would have been given a "gentle" reminder that he was in the way. Sometimes I think the glory days of the TOCA races (97, 98, and some of 99) were the best racing, and the drivers made the nascrap folks look like boyscouts!

Hi All,
I was the driver of the #05 Evo. Due to a bad wreck at the Glen, we lost all test time prior to the Runoffs. The car had an evil off corner push due to lack of sufficient compression damping. Yes, I was holding Dave up. Yes, he gave me at least two "gentle" reminders per lap. It's all part of the game and I commend Dave for not taking me out. Prior to the restart, I was hit in the rear hard enough to kink my exhaust so the car was down power as well. The first lap incident was unfortunate. If you pay attention to the video you can see that my Evo and the Nissan enter the corner side by side. No one likes contact, but it was my corner going in. It was a great race and Dave's Team got the result we all hope for. My hat's off to him.
Cheers,

Wow.. you were DOWN on power?

So, I take it the Evos have about 5-10 more hp than the Subies? Maybe not an accurate guess, but even on STELLAR corner exits where he was on your bumper, you still walked him on EVERY straight.

Geeze. "Down on power"

Were you bottoming out at full load in mid corner? It looked like you were coming in with good speed, washed out mid corner, and and slowed + late apex to get more straight speed. It was nice to see you come back from the spin, though. I am always FOR all the AWD turbo cars :)

Looked like the 'in-car' driver slowed when he made his way to 2nd to keep from hitting his teammate and to give him a line... only to be freight trained.

Good race... it was exciting to watch... until the Evo got infront of the STi, that is :)

I know I don't club race, but the amount of patience needed to NOT boot people is extrodinary. I was sitting there watching the whole time going "Lap 14... alright, you are getting punted this turn... Doh.. no no... make that gap... darn!"

I would have 'nudged' my way in the lap you went wide in the esses right before the the front straight. ;)

Good racing to you both. Very professional.

Yes, I was down on power. So far, a good Evo will make a bit more power in T2 trim than the Subie. Yes, the Evo was bottoming huge up front.

Thanks for all your input.

I think it is highly ironic that the Subie is better in the corners and the Evo has more power in T2 trim.

Classic. :D
The driver of that firebird in the incar vid has horrible steering input.
Since I believe these are all really good drivers, I think it is more of the fact that he had to hustle the Firebird more, and with the in-car, you actually get to see this :)

It was nice getting to see/hear/feel the bumps, pops, and nudges that REALLY go on.

It made me want to pop those people on the road that block me ;) j/k :D

AndrewSS 11-18-2005 10:58 AM

well.... to critique the lines and etc of the drivers might be unfair since this was a race and not a time trial or something, so there is more to consider, dont you think
funsti 11-18-2005 11:04 AM

Rubbin son.. is racin, LOL.

True, true. Wheel to wheel is so different than having the course to yourself. I'd get spanked by any one of those drivers out there.

-JWM
wtz 11-18-2005 11:17 AM

One thing to keep in mind. These cars do not handle like real racecars. The stock springs are way too soft for what we are trying to do. So, you have to build a shock with extreme damping. You end up with a car that is not very precise and often can't be placed where the driver intends.
Cheers,
Rally_wgn 11-18-2005 11:21 AM

Awesome restart the Subie / F-body slugfest was just plain nasty! It's funny how in stock trim the EVO is the corner king and the STI is the one with the HP but in T2 it seems to flip. Very interesting...
joey1313 11-18-2005 08:22 PM

Will the rules be adjusted because of the STi win? Less hp, maybe more weight? It looked liked the fbodies had to drive at 13/10 just to try and keep up, much less pass. It seems the awd turbo cars were the class of the field.

Just wondering what kinda power are the STi's are making?
dowroa 11-18-2005 08:55 PM

My novice racing observations:

- Firebirds/Camaros had the fastest laps
- Evo, STi, Camaro/Firebirds were all much faster than the SRT-4s, MR3s, CTS-Vs.

My more intelligent sources are calling for restrictors on the Camaros/Firebirds and weight on the STIs and Evos.

It will be interesting to hear the changes, and I am sure trhoppe will let us know what they are when they happen ;)

- dow
joey1313 11-18-2005 09:14 PM

To me it looked like the STi's once free of traffic ran away from the fbodies till the caution, then were able to open up a gap again after the bumping and grinding on the restart.
John S 11-18-2005 09:35 PM

Well, now I know why Rob Hines (maroon 350Z) was so pissed off about the race - that Evo was completely offline and took him out recklessly - not even close to being a "racing incident". Reminds me much of the recklessness (not as pervasive though) as last year's SRT4 cars speadheading everybody in site.
trhoppe 11-19-2005 12:17 AM

 The Evos has more power then the Suby's because of some inferior tuning ;) It will be fixed for next season, don't worry ;)

T2 race is being aired on 12/3 at 2PM EST.
jblaine 11-19-2005 07:35 PM

Great video.

"Yes, that EVO was blocking, but we all know the rules - if he is in that part of the track and in front of you, he owns that real estate. It is up to the passing car to get by him in a SAFE manner."

Those are 2 completely contradictory statements to me.

Blocking is blocking.

Being in front of a car that does not have what it takes to pass you safely unless you make a mistake, is not blocking.

But what do I know. Even if 'wtz' is being gracious and saying he "held Dave up", I don't see it that way.

I sense Subie-zealot blinders on some people :)
franke3c 11-19-2005 08:39 PM

nm.. nice vid
Zornorph 11-19-2005 10:22 PM

Not very professional driving in my opinion. The evo hit the subie when he was about to lose te spot at one point. Not clean. The F-body guys...ridiculous demolition derby. That should get black flagged.
STI_05 11-19-2005 11:19 PM

Great action! I haven't felt anything like that since I hung up my leathers. If I was on a race bike the lap after the resart would have had me on the ground or in the lead. I need to get back into wheel to wheel racing. Thanks for the post.
trhoppe 11-20-2005 11:40 AM

I sense Subie-zealot blinders on some people :)
 Thats why I was laughing. Some of the comments in this thread are ridiculous. This whole "gosh that Evo just wasn't racing clean", "fbodys suck". Whatever. This is the runoffs. People get hit, people get moved, people get pushed. Its the highest level of amateur/semi pro motorsports in this country and the highest event in that level. This is going to happen.

The 06 car hit the 75 yellow camaro, not the other way around. There is a reason dave passed him next lap while waving frantically trying to apologize. He was faster then the 75 car, and the hit was unintentional, but the 75 car didn't him HIM.

Midnight_Gold 11-20-2005 01:03 PM

Here's what I saw in that video: I saw a driver who was really trying very hard to push the car as much as he could to catch up to the people in front of him. It seemed like he was pushing further into the turns before braking (which would put him right on the Evo's bumper). Unfortunately, that kind of driving punishes you in corner exit where you should be on the gas. You know the deal, slow in fast out. It appeared to me as a spectator that he was still on the brakes when everyone else was on the gas. That would make it look like the Evo had more power, but I think it was just driving style.
