So, whos going?
I can't believe it's less than three weeks away already, I've been planning to go to this for months now. I hope the weather holds up nicely on my way there and back (travelling from Pennsylvania), but i'll be pissed if we end up having a 'dry' Sno*Drift this year.
There are going to be a bunch of interesting cars there, taking a glance at the entry list. Everything from brand new 2006 STi's to a 1976 Ford Escort.

I want to go. Went in '03 and '04. Got "blizzarded" in in '05.

I think it'll be a quiet rally year for me. Trying to save up some bucks. Going to stick to the very local ones.

it's going to be strange not competing this year at S*D, but I will be there, maybe doing sweep or working in some other capacity.
Great entry list. Hope Tom Young does well in our ex-Subie PGT car (he should). ALthough LeBlanc will be pretty much untouchable in PGT...
Good luck to all!

Yeah, that reminds me.. is the Sno*Drift a 'no alcohol' event? I know the STPR was last year...

No alcohol event??? Never heard that one before.
I'll be up there probably working. Perhaps in a new whip...who knows.
Good luck to all and Christian...keep Travis in line and win one for a fellow Suzuki rider. :D (BTW you guys are on the fork of my supermoto bike. Travis on the LH side and you on the RH side. )

I'm quite excited.
Im racing with the polish guy, AND greg (greg555 on here) is finally racing again.
Last year we had a LOT of spins, offs and crashes, hopefully this year he stays ON the road and we do well
So this should be awesome :disco:

I just arrived in Alpena.
Lake Huron is beautiful, Route 23 was awesome coming up the coast. If it wasn't for some wild (read: stupid) drivers, including one woman who not only turned infront of me, but then STOPPED infront of me when she paniced... I wouldn't have anything bad to say about Michigan.
Look for the red wagon with Pennsylvania plates (with two retards inside).

Haha, you beat me back Christian. I can't believe Matt rolled it, I wonder if he's going to run tommorrow or not. Stage 6 was crazy, people sliding off left and right at the turn onto Eberly Rd, two of them taking out someones mailbox in the process.
I'm surprised (but happy) to see Chris up so high in the standings... assuming I read the updates right he's in fifth? Not bad for a PGT car.
Good luck to you guys in SRTUSA tommorrow, I'll be there.

Woohoo! acp wins!...
Canadian ACP wins first round of 2006 Rally America championship
It was a hard-fought victory at Sno*Drift for Andrew ACP Comrie-Picard, who drove cleanly into first place overall after several top teams fell victim to slick conditions on the 130-mile winter rally through north-central Michigan.
Its pretty exciting its been a long time coming and its a real thrill for us, being a privateer team, to take the win, said Comrie-Picard. It was the first-ever top finish for the Canadian and his Mitsubishi Evo IV in the U.S.
Second-place overall went to Subaru Team U.S.A. driver Travis Pastrana, and it was a stunning third-place overall finish for Production-GT competitor Tanner Foust, who edged out Pastrana teammate Ken Block for the podium.
Comrie-Picard and co-driver Rod Hendricksen, who started the days leg more than a minute and a half out of first, credited strategic driving for the win. They had said they planned to drive conservatively early in the race to focus their effort on a pair of make-or-break stages Saturday a treacherous 24-mile section of road thats run twice during this rally.
Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino had been early favourites for the overall win, blazing to the front of the pack to finish Fridays stages seven seconds ahead of Subaru teammates Pastrana and co-driver Christian Edstrom.
But both Subaru crews were caught out during the first pass of the crucial stage late Saturday morning, vaulting Australian Andrew Pinker a snow and ice novice into first place in his Group N Subaru STi. Pastrana suffered two flat tires on his Open class Subaru STi, while Block slid his identical car wide on a corner and found himself stuck for several minutes in a snow bank.
Pinkers lead was also short-lived. He slid off the road during his second run at the stage Saturday afternoon and dropped well out of podium contention. I think that bit of road is laughing at everybody, said Pinker Saturday afternoon.
Block said late Saturday his fourth-place result was a disappointment. Im feeling like I gave away the win, he said. I felt good. I have the speed I need, but I made a mistake.
Foust and co-driver Scott Crouch are snow-and-ice experts. Foust, last years Rally America PGT champion, has taught winter driving in his home state of Colorado but recently moved to Los Angeles to focus on stunt driving and drifting and said he feels his winter driving has suffered.
But he kept up the pace late Saturday, driving well to turn in a spectacular podium performance in his Production-GT entry. This is a rally where the horsepower doesnt matter all that much, said Foust.
Despite his Saturday afternoon disappointment, Pinker put in a surprisingly strong performance at his U.S. debut - particularly given his limited experience on ice and snow. He has focused his efforts on the Spanish series in the past two years, but plans to contest the Rally America series in 2006. If his early performance at Sno*Drift is any indication, he will be a threat for the win at any race.
Matthew Iorio, who took second place at the 2005 Sno*Drift en route to the Rally America Open Class championship title was out of the race Friday after rolling his Open Class Subaru WRX on a tricky turn.
Nearly 50 powerful rally cars took on this frozen challenge, which covered nearly 130 stage miles of ice and snow in the series only winter-weather event. The action began Friday afternoon in Lewiston with 40 miles of competition over seven stages.
The Rally America national championship is a challenging, all-season series comprised of nine events across the country, beginning with Sno*Drift in January and wrapping up 12 months later with the Reno Rally in Reno, Nevada.

It was the last car past the spec location at SS17 (the final stage), and I seen it parked in Hillman after the rally in one piece.
I'm on my way home now, I'll post some 'memorable moments' that I took part in/witnessed when I get back.
Not sure why I said 'Chris' in my last post, I meant Tanner :o ... I'm stoked that he took a podium position.

Havent really heard anybody talking about Patrick Richard not being there this year. I talked to his sister and she said due to lack of sponsorship that they couldnt compete. I think it sucks that you can win a Championship one year, and not compete the next for the reasons listed above.

I crewed for Pete and Scott #598 and the car made it back in one piece. They had a flat that took forever to change, plus a few spins, so they were a bit late getting back to the last service. On the in-car video last night, and i watched them stop and yank at least 3 cars back onto the road :)
Even though they stopped and pulled everyone out that wasn't hopelessly stuck, they managed to place 3rd in G5 on day 1, finished the rally on day 2, and we had a ton of fun in the process.

Not saying that Subaru picked bad drivers, but I would think that Pat and Natalie would have been at the top of the list.

I agree 100%. But Travis Pastrana and Ken Block provide Subaru with way more exposure outside of the rally world. I don't think its right, but thats how it is.

Didn't get an exact count, but my buddy got a picture of it.
Memorable moments:
#1 - Getting to hang out and talk with Matt Iorio for a few minutes as soon as he pulled into the Parc Expose in Lewiston (I happened to be standing right where he parked when he came in... couldn't have been more perfect). Ole kinda wandered off somewhere...
#2 - During SS2 (at the spec location) #49 (Thomson/Marr) slid sideways into a snowbank and got himself hung up. A group of us poured out and tried unsucessfully to push him out. After a minute of collective deep thought someone pulled out his tow strap, hooked it up and we all yanked him out backwards. He ended up almost leveling me and someone else during which, and then proceeded to drive off with the tow strap still trailing behind him.
#3 - During SS6 the conditions got icy as hell right infront of the spec location, and nearly every car that came through spun off. Two ended up taking out a mailbox. The Golf TDI and another car which I can't recall ended up coming to the location at the same time, and both ended up spinning out creating one hell of a show for us.
#4 - Saturday morning, at the Jackpine Trail spec location, they had just gotten the stage and leg underway when some jackass who lived along the course decided he was going to drive his pickup onto the then hot course. Travis, Ken and Pinker got by before they had to stop the rally. They ended up calling the sheriff and blocking his driveway before getting things back underway.
#5 - Getting to meet/talk to Scott Crouch during the final service on Saturday
#6 - The beer tree, guy in a tree, cat fight, camera box incident, big hair guy, moose abduction, staff harassment ( ) and god knows what else that took place during Hungry 5.
#7 - Watching the drama go down in the last service at the Comrie-Picard camp.
#8 - Watching Tanner kick some ass!
Lots of memories, looking forward to next year already...

Not saying that Subaru picked bad drivers, but I would think that Pat and Natalie would have been at the top of the list.
Awesome fun and not cold at all. How many beers did the beer tree make it to?
Richards used to be sponsored by subaru of canada before there north american rally program folded. but i definately agree someone needs to give that man a car to race. by the way were was Stig Bloomquist at?

Quoted from the original press release:
One of the teams primary goals will be to help an American driver reach rallyings highest level, the World Rally Championship. Selected to lead Subaru Rally Team USA is Travis Pastrana, a 22-year-old multi-sport phenom who has gained Worldwide fame as a Supercross and Motocross Champion as well as a multi-time X-Games Gold medalist at Freestyle Motocross. Pastrana began rallying in 2004 with Vermont SportsCar and finished an amazing 4th Overall at his first gravel rally. 2005 marked Pastranas first full season of rallying where he reached the podium several times and proved himself capable of challenging accomplished rally veterans.
Dont forget the 323 sliding into the left bank, doing a 270 (think 360 degree rotation) and with out missing beat making the right hand turn that no one could seem to make.

I beleive Stig is in Europe doing some sort of vehicle testing or something along those lines (could totally be talking out my ace). My brother in law was mad, he's a big fan, almost named his kid Stig.
Whatever happen to ESX sponsership that Richard had? I'm with you, someone needs to give him a car to drive, or the money to do it. Driving skill over marketing, any day. Maybe Richard to move to the U.S. ;) .

If I remember right, Stig didn't run the Sno*Drift last year either... we'll have to wait util 100 Acre to see if he's going to contest I guess.

Thats just PR people talking. The truth is Pastrana provides SRT USA with a ton more exposure than any other driver out there right now. Because he already has an established name. But believe the PR statement if you wish.

That was wild. The roads are just coated in ice, and he comes cruising up the road, counter-rally. One of the silver Subarus starts flailing wildly as they stomp on the brakes, and there's very nearly a collision. Then the idiot stops right at the corner where people have been sliding off. One guy's VW Golf trashed a steering knuckle there not more than 15 minutes later. The whole crowd is screaming to get the guy off the course. Apparently, he was just as unconcerned about spectator traffic coming down the road, and nearly ran several other cars off the road.

That was indeed nuts. Quite the cross-section of humanity at that spec area.
I was sad that I missed so much of Friday night's action. It took me a while to get down (yes, down) to Lewiston, and then we stopped to help some lady who got stuck when the car in front of us kinda ran her off the road. We only saw a half-dozen cars on Friday night. Bummer.
Already looking forward to LSPR -- my hometown rally. Maybe I'll try to hit Ojibwe Forest too.

Hey, that sounds better than my friday night. Got my car back from the bodyshop at 5pm, got my ligthbar on at 5:30, left petoskey at 6pm, arrived at fishbone just in time to turn my car around attempting to park and get stuck in the damn ditch, then spend the next half hour trying to get out (BTW, thanks to all that helped me). Just in time to miss all the cars, and drive another 2 hours home. :(
Saturday made up for it though. :D

My buddies talked to the driver of the Mitsu at the stage you missed (323 270 degree turn stage). They had in car video (with them), which did indeed fly off the road and wedge itself between two trees. It was supposedly the first corner of the stage 1. They said they never drove without studded tires before  .

That would have been DeDominicis... I was at SS2 when I heard them call for a chainsaw to extract a car 1 mile into SS1, and I was like
Then when I didn't see the flourescent Evo go by the spec location, I figured it was him. If I was reading my maps right, SS1 had a huge straight right before the first corner, so I can only imagine he was hauling some serious ass.
Woot, I'm in XENON's highlight video pushing out the Neon. Also, was that where Pinker went off and lost a huge chunk of time?
