Vinyl Stripe, yay or neigh? part 1

Vinyl Stripe, yay or neigh?
What are people's opinions of this? I've had this photo for a while, but was never brave enough to post it on here (atleast I don't think I have). And no, it's not photoshopped, and it was a temporary setup to see how it would look. It would run from the front to rear bumper.

Instead of doing something like that, I would paint the raised section of the middle of your hood black, instead of a vinyl stripe.
quezanart 01-23-2007 02:14 AM

I think it looks goods. With the wheels being black it keeps a nice simple two colors on the car. If the wheels were any other color i wouldn't like it nearly as much as, personally, i think 3 major colorings vying for attention on a car is to much.
sperry7 01-23-2007 02:16 AM

I kinda like it!
Counterfit 01-23-2007 02:53 AM

It's certainly not ugly, and it does match your bike pretty well. I think having just straight black or straight silver mirrors would look better. I've always thought that body colored mirrors should have the mount in the body color too, or just don't bother.
MeanEditor 01-23-2007 03:52 AM

neigh is what horses do, NAY! is how we say NO!!!
Bishop 01-23-2007 03:53 AM

neigh from me.
Stevothehero 01-23-2007 04:30 AM

i say yay, but silver and black are a little dull in my opinion, slap some blue on there somewhere are it would look sickkkkkkk

but hey, if you like it like that then go for it mate
Black07Impreza 01-23-2007 05:16 AM

i like it... it looks pretty sweet... but in the end, if you like it do it, if you dont, dont do it.

MikeyMike 01-23-2007 05:21 AM

like the rims, but not the stripe IMO
SQ3.0dotJP 01-23-2007 05:52 AM

 you should put big raiders stickers on the sides, and a rally lightbar in the front so your car can look like the helmet you will be by adding racing stripes.. IMO
Vew 01-23-2007 11:11 AM

Added more photos. Bike isn't mine, it belongs to the owner the blue WRX. And before anyone jumps in, stickers are no longer on the blue WRX.

My car has been lowered and added oem strake kit since that photo, but in the next month, sti splitters, v-limited replica (even though I think they sent me an s203 replica), jdm rear aprons are going on, and a Perrin FMIC with the logo painted on.

To be perfectly honest, I like my car either way. I'm not favored toward any direction, stripe or no stripe. If I had to have a reason, I would do it to be different.
rkramer 01-23-2007 11:40 AM

no car less then 30 years old deserves a center stripe...
tac04wrx 01-23-2007 12:08 PM

did u paint ur headlights? look darker... u got any close up pics?

Headlights were indeed cleared (turn signal and side marker only) and painted flat black with Krylon BBQ and Stove. Turn signal bulbs were replaced with an orange ones. Blazer Xtreme Lites. Yellow package from AutoZone. Part number is 7443A

I think it looks hideous.
shemoves 01-23-2007 12:41 PM

It looks like one of those goaties that is too skinny. If it were offset, maybe over the driver or passenger, it'd look better...but those kind of stripes are screaming american muscle.

If you want a stripe, do it down the side.
mla163 01-23-2007 12:48 PM

Maybe.

What if you shift it off to the side? What about a wide one (10") and a thinner one (2") offset?

Just a thought.
SharkWagon 01-23-2007 04:46 PM

If you are going to do it, do it like this:
<pardon the mspaint - at work>

o ok thanks for the info, the headlights looks nice!!
Winner 01-23-2007 11:02 PM

it looks funky....you should also run the strip up your windshield and down the back of the rearwindow:devil:
JohnnyWas 01-24-2007 12:12 AM

that stripe ftl
arco 01-24-2007 01:55 AM

ive seen other vinyl stripes on rex's which all have been rather unappealing but this is not bad.

If you like it do it. It's your car
WRXSTi0487 01-24-2007 06:27 PM

here is a pic of one of my friend's in orlando STi...he decided upon 2 stripes instead of 1

It very very closely matches the STi pink decal on the foglight covers

Try throwing a thin white line on the border between the black and the grey. That would really make the stripe pop more.
Realnez 01-24-2007 10:02 PM

i think it looks alot better without the stripe
kpluiten 01-24-2007 10:13 PM

I like it. What about two stripes? (but not as wide of course.)
LathanM 01-24-2007 10:34 PM

I like it. I have seen a couple with a gloss stripe and it looks a little out of place. The flat color just seems right. Did you carry it over the spoiler and roof? It is hard to tell in the picture.
ThinkGlobal 01-24-2007 11:04 PM

the first thing i think of now when i see stripes is the esx turds...

sorry, they were so bad i just cant get over it... i say no, but it is your car, so do what YOU WANT and damn the rest of us LOL
skate enjoi 01-24-2007 11:43 PM

i remember a long time ago when you posted this on wrxtuners.com.... didnt you do that with electrical tape? anyways, i liked it then and i still think it looks great
BlackSTI2006 01-24-2007 11:55 PM

rally stripes would be a lot better...i know i might catch hell for posting and SRT-4 but this is one of my good friends and he got 1st place Dodge Street at Nopi this year....was also featured in a magazine recently....everyone loves the stripes...we bust his balls and call his car the "viper in a diaper"...here is a picture from a few months ago when he did a a photoshoot
IMO it makes the car look cheaper and less classy.
and i wouldnt call a wrx expensive or classy....

they are what they are, subarus....foreign sedans....the cars arent built like a lexus and they cost under $35k.....

if you want classy and not as cheap at least talk about an LGT....even then thats pushing it....

face it, the wrx and sti were never built to be expensive or classy vehicles....they are performance 4 cylinder sedans not a cadillac!

I think it looks pretty good - I'm thinking about doing something similar to my beater - but I like the glossy vinyl.
ThinkGlobal 01-25-2007 05:31 PM
so you dont like the ESX cars?
no they are turds
Aku Zaan 01-25-2007 05:43 PM

I agree....if you like it do what you want.

Personally I would not run it on my car....and it think it would be better if you carried it all the way through the car rather than just on the hood.
PeteDucati 01-25-2007 05:48 PM

I really like the dual rally stripes.. but everyone will think I'm some ESX poser. I was thinking about getting a sheet and having the roof covered in black.. someone had their roof painted black and it looks pretty good.
Vew 01-25-2007 06:17 PM
I like it. I have seen a couple with a gloss stripe and it looks a little out of place. The flat color just seems right. Did you carry it over the spoiler and roof? It is hard to tell in the picture.
No, I didn't, but only because I was running low on electrical tape... Prototype like I said! :p
IDWRX 01-25-2007 06:41 PM

I think it would look a little better if you use the wide stripe with a narrow stripe offset on the hood. It's not quite the rally stripes (which is the way I would go if I was making the decision) and it gives you the sense of width you are looking for. As for the all black roof, I think that would darken your car up too much, so it might be worth at least looking into extended the stripe all the way back. As long as you keep the gray/black theme, it'll look nice.
djsniggedy 01-25-2007 08:46 PM

how about painted carbon fiber
LathanM 01-25-2007 09:15 PM
how about painted carbon fiber
I have seen a this done a few times and it is really hard to pull off well. The problem is it looks out of place without other carbon fiber parts. The best one I can remember is a rebuilt '70 mustang. They went with an aggressive CF hood then matched it with Boss style CF stripes. Walking up to the car they looked black but as you go closer you could see the CF pattern. Very sharp!
Brepic06 01-25-2007 09:56 PM

i was actualy thinking about doing something along the lines of that as well.....but i was thinking more of an off centered to the passenger side....kinda nismo style being as im original a nissan guy
IllNastyImpreza 01-26-2007 12:55 AM

would look better with 2 smaller stripes....But its aight. definatly different. Definatly another reason for the cops to pull you over ;)

courtesy of the previous owner, Weasel555.... but still. vinyl isnt for everyone, but some people like it...and thats all that matters.

we may keep the design but change to a gray/pink stripe. (its my g/f's car)
blukestrel 01-27-2007 03:17 PM

For some reason vinyl and stripeys aren't generally considered cool on this forum, but I like them, as long as they aren't those Fast and Furious shredded dragons or whatever. I prefer the narrower, offset type, or the side stripes like the one above. But then, I like flames too. I like the classic muscle car look.
