waterproof seat covers part 1

Mike Wevrick 01-13-2003 11:10 AM

waterproof seat covers
I want to get some waterproof seat covers for my WRX. I found a few threads about Okole covers. Has anybody had any problems with these? Any comments pro/con?

Also, does anyone have any other type of waterproof seat covers such as Aquatech? Any comments pro/con?

thanks :D
WRXerist 01-13-2003 12:13 PM

Get leather and you have solve the waterproofing problem.

I'm doing just that since I hate the fabric and being as anal as I am, I hate dust and crap likes to stick to the fabric like magnet.
Mike Wevrick 01-13-2003 12:15 PM

Thanks, but I don't really like leather (too slippery and expensive)
WRXerist 01-13-2003 12:18 PM

You can get suede for the inner butt section. That will solve your slippery-ness when you are ripping around corners. But they are expensive. $705 for everythng.
Skyline 01-13-2003 01:05 PM

Just get the Wet Okole's. No problem with dirt sticking to them. Water beads on the neoprene. I've had them for over a year and no problems at all. They are super comfortable and don't get hot in the sun like leather.

If you have to clean them, there is neoprene shampoo you can use on the seat without needing to remove the covers. If you manage to tear it (which I can't really imagine happening), you can send it back to Wet Okole to repair for like $12 or something.
esteve 01-18-2003 10:46 PM

I just got the Wet Okoles today and can speak very highly of the quality, fit, and appearance. It's also very comfortable to sit in...won't stick to you when you wear shorts like leather. The fabric looks relatively durable, although the salesman told me to expect them to last 3-4 years before they start wearing out. I really don't see any reason why they shouldn't last a lot longer than that since I'm careful getting in and out.

You won't have any regrets with the Wet Okoles, it's a quality product.

The owner or manager actually hit me up today about using my car to make the patterns for the back seat (sedan) covers and he'd give me one for $100 but I don't need 'em so I passed. He seemed pretty desperate because the price kept coming down and he said many people have orders placed already...they just need a guinea pig now:lol:

I also got my windows tinted today so I think those are enough presents for my Subie for one weekend:lol:

BTW, thanks to Skyline and the others for the info about Wet Okoles.
Mike Wevrick 01-18-2003 11:05 PM

Thanks for the info, folks :D

Sorry Skyline, I wish I could've helped you out!

Even though he was willing to give me a great deal, I just don't need them:D

Do they get sweaty at all, since they are waterproof? Also how thick are they and how well might they work with seat warmers?

Jim
Skyline 01-21-2003 09:15 AM

No, they don't get sweaty. They seem to be the typical thickness of neoprene all around, but with additional padding underneath the seating surfaces.

What's a seat warmer? Is that a heating element to be used underneath the seat cover? I'm not sure that's a good idea. Why don't you give them a call and ask them yourself. :)
migs76 01-21-2003 01:53 PM

wet okoles come up with a rear seat pattern yet?

Dude, why don't you read the posts in this thread first, before posting a question that's already been answered.

What about the factory side airbags? Do they take this into consideration in the design? Or do they recommend you disconnect them?
Skyline 01-21-2003 02:58 PM

When you order, they ask you if you have side air bags. The covers have a cutout for them. :)
Abe Froman 01-21-2003 05:14 PM

I'm sold, where can I get them?:D

EDIT
Nevermind...duh...

garretwp 01-21-2003 07:46 PM

where on there site do they list the prefited covers for the impreza?

Garrett
Skyline 01-21-2003 08:01 PM

Just call them up. They haven't updated their web based catalog appropriately.
Acadian 01-27-2003 09:22 AM

Awwwwwwwwwwww...excellent. Exactly what I was looking for!! Hurray for the search function ;)

BTW...what color cover did you guys get?

Oh and also, are the Okole covers pretty much the same as the Aquatec ones sold at autoanything.com ?
Mike Wevrick 01-27-2003 09:52 AM

The aquatec ones look similar to wet okole based on the websites but beyond that I don't know.

I am probably getting color 218, which is a yellow/orange very similar to my "sonic yellow" paint. I called wet okole and had them send me samples of several different colors so I could see what the material was like (pretty good) and pick a color.
Skyline 01-27-2003 09:54 AM

If anything, the Aquatec's look like rebadged Wet Okoles. The Wet Okoles are the originals. :)

I have them in Wine/Black.
Acadian 01-27-2003 09:57 AM

I wonder what blue is closed to the WCR blue of my Wagon? But since my interior is black and grey...the grey might be nicer? decisions, decisions, decisions ;)

I will probably give them (Okole) a call today.

thanks again...
Skyline 01-27-2003 10:04 AM

For WR Blue, I'd definitely get the blue seat covers! The center portion of the seat cloth is actually dark blue you know. :)
Acadian 01-27-2003 10:42 AM

Dark blue?...Black Flat Wove...has a tad touch of blue...but it's rather dark!

but what blue is closer to the WR Blue Pearl tho? Cobalt or Royal?
Skyline 01-27-2003 10:53 AM

Get Wet Okole's color samples. You can get up to three tiny squares of the material. That's the best way to decide. :)

yeah I might have to do that...just thought that perhaps someone here had already went through this...thus saving me this step ;) They might also know from past orders...will ask them when I call.

thanks Skyline!

Heheh.. you trust another person's opinion? I've posted pictures of my covers before and several people have proclaimed that I have pink seat covers. Nuh uh, they are WINE. :p

I got the black/navy blue combo which is a pretty close match for the factory black/blue seats. Navy is the darkest blue they offer, and I originally wanted something a little darker to match the factory blue, but I'm very happy with the way it looks.

The only thing I regret was that I thought they would make the headrest covers black like factory, but they're navy. It's not a big deal to me, but I would've preferred black headrests.

did you get the Royal Blue (#19) or Cobalt (#23)

I got the little color samples...but still...it's like Cobalt is a tad light adn Royal Blue a tad dark!
garretwp 02-04-2003 11:33 AM

How do these seat covers install on to the seats? do you have to ahve a professional install them? Or do they just slip over the existing seat?

Garrett
Skyline 02-04-2003 11:39 AM

Combination of slip over, stretch, velcro, and straps. Self install takes about two hours.
westy66 02-04-2003 01:22 PM

so... you get any color combo you want, with black sides.

heres a pic from the VW Golf page. these look pretty good. ive been thinking about getting these covers for ever!

Did you have to request the "WRX" embroidery or does it come on it already when you specify its for a WRX?
Skyline 02-04-2003 02:04 PM

You have to request it, and it costs a few bucks more.
garretwp 02-04-2003 05:31 PM

I to thought it would look better with black head rest. i was looking at the pictures this morning during one of my classes and came around to those pics as well.

Actually, I got the navy blue which I believe is #24. That's probably going to be too dark for your tastes so you might have to flip a coin!

Carbon 02-11-2003 08:00 PM

Wow, i was sold till I saw the price... $225?? I think there's a group buy on full leather seats (not covers) for like $575, and that includes the back, too. Granted, leather isn't exactly water resistant...

The Wet Okole's cover the back as well. They wrap completely around. You cannot see they are covers.
Acadian 02-25-2003 09:58 PM

Question for those of you who delt with Okole already..
Well I got my new seat covers today...BUT

I had asked for seat covers for:
- 03 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon.
- Sport Bucket seat
- with side airbags
- No Arm Rests
- With WRX Logo

The order I received clearly indicates (and I checked) that the seat covers are for
- 02 Impreza
- with armrests?

Which is not what I had asked for! :( Their site says that decorated products (I have WRX on mine) are NOT returnable or exchangeable. Please tell me that doesnt mean I can't exchange my seat covers?? I mean, they made the mistake, why should I pay for it? (Especially at the price they go for)
Mike Wevrick 02-25-2003 10:22 PM

If they messed up they should take them back. Have you tried actually installing them? Maybe they just marked the form wrong.

(Mine came recently too. The rear covers were listed on the form as being for a Forester. I laid them out in the car and they look OK, although I have not installed them yet.)

yeah I looked at them and they have a hole on the side for the armrests :(
Mike Wevrick 02-25-2003 11:10 PM

A hole on the side where? The seat back pieces are supposed to have small holes in the sides for the side air bags.

God I'm such a dumb a$$....I'm pretty embarrassed! :D  So that is why that hole is there!! Sheesh!

The invoice said W/H.R which I assumed meant With/Harm. Rest but it probably means Witouth/Arm Rest.

Doh!

W/H.R. = with head rest (why would H = arm?)

Wild guess: from your name and the fact that you read "arm" as "harm" you are originally from Atlantic Canada. Correct or way off?

Yeah Mike, you go it all figured out. I was born in the Maritimes and was raised in a French comunity... And don't ask me why I assumed arm started with an H...lack of sleep and too many hours at work perhaps?

I indeed got teh Royal Blue covers (#19) with Black head rests. I will take and post pics as soon as I install them.

Skyline 03-03-2003 09:08 AM

I just pushed the seat cover in between the bolster and the plastic. I dropped the strap through a gap to the bottom of the seat. If you push the bolster away from the plastic there, you should see it.

maybe I have to push harder because it's frekkin' tight there..

I'll look into it when I get home tonight. Thanks!

Yeah it's pretty tight. If you're still having trouble, I can take a look at mine over the weekend. Let us know.
