Which Front Lip to get?

Just wondering everyones suggestions are on what front lip to get on my 02 REX. I am leaning towards the GReddy front lip.

Kevin
M3sum 09-25-2002 04:50 AM

Definitely one of my favorite front lip.s
I have it but took it off, I have tein lowering springs and with that lip, the car is annoying to drive. I have having to worry too much about clearing driveways and stuff so I took it off to be able to enjoy driving the car.
Master 09-25-2002 05:18 AM

hey you wanna sell that greddy lip of yours?
and how low did the tein springs lower the car.
and how much lower is the greddy front lip than the sti ver.1 or 2
M3sum 09-25-2002 06:48 AM

Heh, Im hanging on to it for now.
The springs are supposed to lower it 1.2f/0.8r inch from their website. I didn't do a b4 and after so thats the best I got.

Actually im wondering how much lower the greddy is inr espects to the STi ones too. Cause I might want to get those if they are not as low.
All I know is that with the TEIN springs and the greddy lip, I have about 4" of clearance. A friend of mine has the same TEIN springs, and no front lip and he has about 7" of clearance, so I guess the greddy lowers it about 3". Anyone have info on the STi v.1 and v.2?
NJ WRX 63 09-25-2002 12:32 PM

My GF is putting the Greddy on her 2002 BRP RS. Its being painted..pictures to come
onesillyracer2k2 09-25-2002 12:52 PM

Id stick with a greddy or one of the sti lips. I plan on ordering an sti version 1 soon.
128d 09-25-2002 06:38 PM

I actually like the OEM one its simple and understated. :D
TXBlueBeast 09-25-2002 06:47 PM

yeah, I just saw the OEM one for the first time the other day in person. I like that but the price is kind of steep.

Do you know how much lower over stock the lip made?
Any side pics so I can gauge it in terms of the side skirts?

Where did you get that lip? I have never seen that before and I like it! :D
sochico 09-26-2002 12:41 PM

i want that v2 where can i get that lip and not get raped on the price? is it urethane and is it close to the cost of the greddy?
MINO 09-26-2002 01:35 PM

M3sum:
As far as the V2 lip goes, I'd say it about 1.5 inches lower than the OE bumper.

TXBlueBeast, sochico:
I purchased the lip through Grouppe-S (a vendor here on I-club) for 495 shipped (but since I live in CA I had to pay the 8.25% tax, $40). It is made of fiberglass, comes pre-painted, and in 2 pieces (split down the middle).

I bought this piece for a couple of reasons:
STI does 1:1 windtunnel testing on their aero parts. It's been mentioned on I-club that an STI lip and carbon wing help to reduce drag by almost .01.

It's pre-painted

Bolts and tapes right on with no drilling. Took me 15 minutes to install.

One thing I don't care for is that gap down the middle of the kit. I feel it cheapens the lip with the extra line.
djerickd 09-26-2002 02:50 PM

I thought it was made of ABS not fiberglass?
MINO 09-26-2002 03:16 PM

Thats what I had thought too. All the paper work and parts looked legit though. Maybe the V1 was ABS.
djerickd 09-26-2002 03:18 PM

what so it really is fiberglass? thats odd:confused:
Jakezor 09-26-2002 03:33 PM

Prodrive / UK300!

Thats what I want at least.
WoRteX 09-26-2002 03:47 PM

thanx!!

It is made out of (ABS ?) polyeurethene... mine came from WRX_ONLY... very easy to install.

Sorry for the crappy picture.

I think the 1.5 inches lowering the front is right on the mark.

Was the material black and smooth on the back side?

Mine was cream with obvious "glass" slivers.

Mine was black... no glass slivers... lightweight and pliable... came in 2 pieces that attach in the middle with the laminated STi badge covering the brass screw that goes in front.

Same material as under the rear bumper.

Mine couldn't weigh more than 4-6 lbs total for the whole front lip.

IMO best looking lip out there for our cars... your pictures definitely reminds me I really have to lower my ride next.

Paul
MINO 09-26-2002 05:19 PM

WOW. I kinda feel ripped but I'm assuming that the current lower prices may reflect the material useage. Mine weighed in at 4 pounds and inluded all the same parts (I assume):

Brass screw at front
Brass screw and nut for the back
STI badge (aluminum w/gel coat)
all OE mounts/pegs: 2 side, 5 underneath

don't forget those incredibly handy JDM instructions (for us English language only people). :D
MINO 09-26-2002 05:49 PM

RIGHT! That language barrier scared me a bit.

With all the pieces I was worried if I should tape and mount one side at a time or piece it together then put it on.

Common sense said put it together first. Tape the center down then the sides.

That is what I did as well... put it together started at the front and worked my way out on each side... with the tape on the sides being my last stop... OEM stuff is so nice... all the holes line up (even the holes you didn't know you had until you need them).

... at the moment I'm thinking... did I overlook tape in the front center... I remember the strips on the side... but not the front... damn.  I have to check now.
pjcoregon 09-26-2002 06:44 PM

oops... forgot to tape the middle section. wil correct quickly. :D

is the splitter on that bumper a separate peice they offer?
BOY 09-27-2002 09:58 AM

I have no idea (I'm a GM6 driver), I just like the lip  . I've been considering this and several other GD lips to "alter" for the GC/GM platform (now I just need to be independently wealthy  )

You mean GC/GF8 right?:D

I am in the market for a WRX and am already starting to buy my accessories. I really like the Liberal ft lip but worried about ground clearance. Any comments on this?
decibel_dj 09-27-2002 10:47 AM

just went to the web site and the splitters are separate either in 1 or 2 peice design now i wonder if they'll fit on any other lip
decibel_dj 09-27-2002 03:17 PM

that Version 2 lip is tight though does it come in CF?
MINO 09-27-2002 03:28 PM

A V1 lip is available in CF through a company called Mashaw.

It has no vents and is not a genuine STI product. I've heard of fitment problems with this piece as well.

Try a search. I know there are pictures of it on I-club.
decibel_dj 09-27-2002 03:41 PM

aight i did a search and its ova rated i got so many posts that hand nothing to do with what i was searchign for
decibel_dj 09-27-2002 03:42 PM

i was thinking of it in CF only to match when i get my CF hood but i guess it really doesnt matter in the long run

I just installed my v2 STI lip last night (bought from SubyDude) and it is definately ABS. I made the mistake (as usual) of working from the corners to the middle so I had to restick the middle part down because I had a little gap. The STI lip looks great with the only downside being the split in the center. But you get a nice little STI badge to impress the nOObs:lol: .

Dale
djerickd 10-01-2002 11:52 AM

on the V2 STi lips can they be removed without the adhesive messing up the OEM finish?
iceNine 10-01-2002 06:30 PM

I think that just like the badges on the trunk, if you apply a little heat with a hairdrier or some 3M Adhesive remover (made for cleaning up a car before painting) it should come off with no trouble. I was able to pull mine off a little to reposition because the tape was only stuck on for 2-3 minutes. After it ages a little it may be more difficult to remove.

Dale
HIGHPSI 10-01-2002 09:44 PM

STI V2

So,

Do any of the STi v2 lips come without the split in the center, or is that something everyone just deals with?
pjcoregon 10-01-2002 10:12 PM

They all have the split in the middle... the upside is your shipping charges for the lip just became greatly reduced over one piece lips. It is not really that noticable unless you are the type that obsesses over things like why the the painted sides don't have gaskets, but the strakes do and things of that sort... it looks great (to me on my car.... but your mileage may vary :-) ).

Yes, Kaminari offers the full 1 piece and a 2 piece splitter.
They both retail for $295.00
The Front lip retails for $395.00 if you contact them, they can give you a Distributor that should give you a better price.
The kaminari front lip is also featured on the Scooby of the Month pic.

Are you talking about the Subaru painted sideskirts? Mine have gaskets along the upper edge just like the stock black ones. They are grey to match the silver finish:) . While you are on the subject of the strakes, how do they attach to sides, existing holes or do you have to drill?

STI version II

Mine is abs also,,,thank god,,hit a curb,,, gently,,, scratched on the bottom, but it bends some and has some give.Looks great!
Im using the Oricari fog covers painted silver to match. They compliment the lines of the lip IMHO. All the lines go this way ====..Kinda like the GC series fog covers.Sorry no pics.

Dale,

Sorry it took so long to reply... I lost track of the thread... I'll PM you too... you have to drill to attach the strakes in three places into your nicely painted sideskirts (two on bottom and one at the rear)... and you know... I think you are 100% correct... mine has gaskets too... don't know why I didn't notice them.

what's the lowering level on the kaminari? Front lips and a bit of a drop dont go well with driveways.
