WRC Wales Rally GB - - talk about it here!

Rally GB is upon us! Subaru and Petter always do well on this event, so hopefully all the gremlins will stay away and we can see a really good rally.
No matter what happens, we can at least listen to the rally, 'cause World Rally radio is back is back for this event!

that's not funny. at least i am not finding the funny.
this is a dangerous sport, and something like that COULD actually happen.

it's not like i was was talking about richard burns
if petter is going to stand a chance seb needs to crash or break in a at least 2 rallys and petter needs to win win win!!!
the fire part is just secondary
sarcasm is your friend :D

I have nothing to do with it, and I'm nervous about it. If Seb wins and Petter DNF, then the championship is all over.
| Superveget | 09-15-2004 05:17 PM |
that sucks.. subaru just doesnt seem to get lucky... they have had a great car the past two years and good drivers, they are always on top but run out of luck.
First., Tommi was never on top of his game, then richard gets cancer, now petter is crashing a lot( reminds me of Colin)... Hirvonen is driving ok, and it seems like subaru could win both driver and manufacturer champions in 2006.. if they keep the current lineup...

I hope Petter makes it 3 in a row. Seb is just consistant and getting a lot of points every rally. So far, he has been the best driver by far.
I'd like to see Hirvonen get some more points too.

I think we'll see a new winner of rally GB this year. Seb. had to back off last year and I'm sure he still has nightmares about that. Petter will podium.

seb die in a fire!!!!
That's a horrible thing to say, but it's the only way Petter will beat him this year. Just because you drive a Subaru doesn't mean you have to worship the guy who drives one (then again, I don't get the professional sports "support your home team" concept either). Face it, Petter may be as fast as Loeb, but you don't see Loeb totaling his car in Germany or having a silly off in Finland. Fast only gets you so far if you can't keep it on the road.
So I'll say it... go Sebastian, you've earned it! And, um, nobody die in anything rally related what-so-ever! ;)

This is time for Subaru's 'flatout or nothing' motivation, they said a couple rallies ago.
IMO, Seb will be on the podium. Once he gets in the 'groove' then his level of consistancy will stay.
As usual, Go Petter!!

i say petters got this. hes won the last two, and coming off a great win in japan. which was also more his style, being gravel and all. seb could be a big problem though. i see him getting anxious to close the title and going off. don't count out gronholm yet though. or sainz.

Your second post only pointed out that you meant to be sarcastic, but your first post had no actual sarcasm. And your intent doesn't change anything when you say "i hope so-and-so dies in a fire" in a sport where people actually can die in fires! Anyway, I was more interested in your (and everyone else's) blind support for Petter. Hey, if he keeps making up time maybe he is actually faster, but he still has too many offs.
I want to see Mikko do better, he's been dissapointing lately. How is he doing so far? I haven't had time for wrc.com yet...

Mikko's doing hundreds of times better than he has in any other Rally GB! ... Which isn't saying much, since every other time he's been here, he's crashed out on Trawsoed (one of the first stages of the event.) He's currently 6th, 3:17.0 off the lead, and 14.1 seconds ahead of 7th-placed Francois Duval. (Francois suffered brake failure on the last -- and longest -- stage of day.)
I agree that Mikko's not been pushing as hard lately. For a while we were seeing improvement. But it seems like crashing out of Finland seems to have shaken his confidence or something.

Indeed, if Seb Loeb wins tomorrow, then it will be a good ending!
I think he is has been highly underestimated as a driver. He seldom crashes, always finishes in the points and wins whether it's on tarmac or gravel.
Go Sebastien!

I think its about time people acknowledge Loeb. He is having a great year, he is totally in control.
3 consecutive DNFs for Peter, have pretty much sealed the championship. Loeb is going to take it, and I say, good for him, he deserves it. Truthfully, he a Peter were tied at rally GB last year... if Loeb diddnt get team orders, he may have taken it last year too, if not it sure would have been a much better race!
I'd love to see Peter win it again, but the only way that will happen now is if Loeb gets 2 DNFs, and Peter wins those 2 races. So all Loeb really needs to do is take it easy, but finish, and make the podium, to take home the championship.
Sure anything can happen, but it seldom does.

6.3 secs, that's a close rally.
Solberg only moves up 2 points in the standings. His 3 DNFs have really cost him. At this point, he could win every event and still be 2nd in the championship. Leob actually needs to either DNF or finish way back in the pack 3-4 times.
Uff da.

Great race by both Petter and Sebastien!
First, congrats to Petter for winning 3 Rally GBs in a row and nibbling at Loeb's lead every day on the rally. However, it wasn't really a come back, I mean they were within about 10 secs the whole time...
Also, great race by Sebastien, no need to take risks when one can secure a second place, add 8 points with 4 rallies left, and sit on a nice 28 point lead! I think he doesn't have to prove that he is as fast/faster than the rest (Petter included).
So, I would bet money that Sardinia is going to be similar to this past week end! Unless Mr. Sainz does something cool (the terrain seems more to his liking than Rally GB)...
I any case, this season has been pretty exciting thus far!
Steev
PS: Subaru, please hire Franois Duval...

I agree Glenn, those three DNFs are going to come back and haunt Petter. All Loab has to do is drive 9/10s or even 8/10s in the remaining rallys to clinch the championship. I think Petter's only real chance of winning is if Leob has some mechanical problems that put him out. I don't see him crashing.

Spectacular Rally!!
Congratulations Petter and Phil!!!!!
Sebastien is most deserving of the championship, I will not be sad if we don't win this year. He is a good man.

And with the Xsaras rock solid performance this year the chances of mechanical failure are slim to none

and last year would have been Loeb as World Champ if Citreon had'nt been so cautious going into Rally GB...

I wouldent say that, but if they dient give team orders it sure would of been one close race.

Blah ... Speed didn't film Petter jumping up and down after he wins :p (Which is so much better to watch than the Schumacher jump)
| CirrusWRX | 09-20-2004 09:35 AM |
What an exciting rally to watch!!! I missed the first hour of coverage on Speed, but caught the last and it was awesome. Congrat's to Subaru!!!
But I wonder- has anybody done (and can post?) the math about what Petter has to do to win the drivers' championship this year? IIRC, Nicky or somebody last night was saying he basically has to win the last 5 rallies, correct? That's gonna be a tough feat to accomplish! Methinks it's Loeb's turn at the top of the podium barring any bizarre mishaps.

Great Rally. Congrats to the Team. I wish Loeb would have a damned non injury related retirement sometime so the championship could come down the wire. I love to see 2 guys on 2 on the limit. If Loab take the championship he absoultely deserves, he has drive awsomely and rock solid.

its more up to Loeb DNFing in all of the upcoming rallies. Seb put forward some many good finishes at the beginning of the year that he nearly had it sewn up in june. When Petter went on a string of bad performances, that sealed it.
| CirrusWRX | 09-20-2004 10:36 AM |
OK - so let's see if my math is right...
Loeb is at 92 points right now, Petter at 64
If Petter wins the last 4 Rallies, he only nets 104!
That means, Loeb could come in 2nd place in ONE SINGLE Rally, and 5th or better in one of the remaining 3. Or, he could come in 3rd place in 2 of the 4 Rallies and TIE at 104 (I'm sure the winner is determined through other means throughout the season, thus Loeb would probably STILL win...) Or Loeb could come in 4th in 3 of the Rallies.
Bottom line, if Loeb wins 1 single Rally and doesn't even finish the remaining 3, Petter will tie him at 102 for the season. Assuming Loeb is going to finish in at least the top 5 over the next 4 Rallies, he's going to be looking at, the very least, a 10-15 point margain of victory, even if Petter wins every single event. Obviously, working in the financial industry, I know the term, "Past performance is not necessarily indicative of futures results" but this is going to be nearly impossible.

^ Word
As much as I like Subaru and Solberg, Loeb's consistency is amazing. The biggest factor in that has been his ride, he never seems to have any mechanical problems. I think Loeb will sew it up in Italy but I hope I'm dead wrong.
Great rally, one of the most exciting finishes I've ever seen. I kept waiting for Petter to fudge up in that next to last stage but it was Loeb (and I couldn't believe it).

i think the key to the success of the xsara was having mcrae in it last year. i think he was hired to try and break the car whether he knew it or not. if they can get it so colin cant break it then no one can!

Great rally by Petter, great battle between him and Seb.
Seb is so deserving this year, he has been heads on shoulders above the rest. Marcus has at times been off the pace, Petter obviously had his problems keeping the car on the road, Loeb has been on the pace all season and hasn't missed a beat.
I wonder if we saw his best pace in Wales? His codriver commented that they were on maximum attack, but let's say for arguments sake that Petter and Seb's roles in the championship were reversed, does Petter still win this rally? I'm not sure... on one hand it's hard to imagine that Seb isn't being at least a little careful, but at the same time I really get time impression he loves the rivalry and Petter and just can't help but want to race him.

WRC Wales Rally GB was the best rally yet for this year
seb wanted to win so much although he didn't need it, I think it's because he lost here last year to petter which cost him the championship or he didn't wanted petter to get a hat trick or for both reasons
wow, the rallies this year was getting boring(because of cost cutting?). ..glad I watched rally GB
