ZeroSports Spoiler Extension? part 1

ZeroSports Spoiler Extension?

Riceroni or not? Is this the San Francisco treat?

Seriously, I recently saw this on i-club & was wondering what folks thought about it? I think it is carbon fiber. I think it looks kinda cool. I'm getting older (33) & don't want to get challenged at every stoplight when some Honduh guy rols up. It does save $ vice getting a whole new spoiler.

Inquiring minds want to know. If anyone has 1st-hand experience/pics of these I'd like to see 'em.
MattDell 04-23-2002 10:45 PM

Talk to ///M Roadster + WRX, his wife has one.

Scoobs,

Do you like them? Expensive? Install difficulty?

twitch 04-26-2002 01:12 PM

OK...I broke down & got one...

I ordered from machv.com in Fairfax, VA. They were having a special on them. Shipping today. Will install next weekend & report back on my 1st impressions. Thanks to all who gave me some gouge on this product.

twitch 04-26-2002 09:47 PM

Cost?

$239 + $10 shipping. $10 cheaper than anywhere else I found. I'm sure I could probably get it cheaper if I tried but they had it in-stock & shipped it the same day I orderd.

Got ZeroSports Extensions and Installed them

They are pretty cool. Much better than in pictures. The install wasn't too difficult. The only downside was that the safety cable that ran through the spoiler is no longer a player. There are no hole to snake the cable through the extensions (I guess you could drill holes but I'm too afraid to dork up carbon fiber). I just ran the cable through the lower part of the trunk lid to give a pseudo-factory appearance from the underside. Haven't driven it yet. We'll see if ZeroSports has the "Highest Rogard" for their customers in the morning (see any ZeroSports sticker or box to get the reference). Thanks to those who convinced me to buy it. MachV.com got it from DC to Vegas real quick. I ordered on Friday & it showed up on Monday. Questions! Did anyone use any caulking around the bolts after the install? Any problems tightening the bolts? I hand-tightened them as best I could until the extensions & spoiler were snug together.

v/r
blue-ej20 04-30-2002 03:18 AM

i just hand tightened the bolts. i didnt think that there would be a need for caulking. i drilled a whole throught the adapters so the retaining cable can through. worked out great, just drill slowly.
[27] 04-30-2002 08:30 AM

im curious how these would look on a MBP rex
plucky 04-30-2002 12:39 PM

Heh I was wondering that myself too. Because I want to have something looking different than stock and I also got a MBP WRX. I was thinking about just getting a new wing, but this has caught my eye.
Too many WRX's are being sold and I dont want mine to like the one granny is drivng (heh that would be amazing if my granny would drive a WRX :D ).
Zahnster 04-30-2002 01:27 PM

My mom is looking into a new car and she keeps mentioning the WRX just to piss me off. I told her to get a wagon since wagons are for women.

BTW I like the look of these as well and think they should look great on a PSM WRX.
bjteel 04-30-2002 01:27 PM

This looks similar the the NB-R WRX available in Japan. Look for my thread on it from yesterday. There is a link to the Japanese Subaru website.

I would like these if they were just a tad shorter. Someone should make adjustable ones....
west_aust 04-30-2002 01:59 PM

that make me wish i had a wrx, that would be one the first look thing i would buy, love them
Iceberg Slim 04-30-2002 02:11 PM

Would look very cool on a black WRX
bjteel 04-30-2002 02:57 PM

Go look at the NB-R WRX! It is black and has a similar spoiler from the factory. Just search for my name or for JDM NB-R WRX.

Guys...here is what it looks like on my WRX.

I like the carbon fiber as it matches the CF in the centers of the Rota Tarmacs I just got.

Post more pics please. I would like to see the whole car.

Thanks, Leland. Yep, that's Lady WRX. Kind of cool having a wife with the same need for speed.

Know what you mean! I took my wife on a warm up lap on a Solo-X and almost threw up!

At least she aproves of my bad car habbits.

Wish se wore stuff like that too!

I wish my girlfriend approved of my bad car habbits...
twitch 05-09-2002 01:19 PM

Yep...and the WRX looks good too

I forgot to post this update.

I did indeed follow blue-ej20's advice on drilling through the extensions in order to accomodate the spoiler security cable. I drilled a hole in the tops of each of the extensions & used existing holes in the bottoms. The cable was just long enough to make it work. No problems so far. I really like how it looks. If my wheels didn't have CF centers I'd probably paint the extensions to match body color.

Next project: patiently await my STi hood scoop from Vivid & then install it. I hope it will work with my Zero Sports scoop splitter (I think it will as I still have the stock intercooler--I understand the STi intercooler requires the Zero Sports STi scoop splitter).

Here's a picture of the Zero Sports spoiler spacers on my dirty WRX. For $240 I think the fit and finish needs to be better on these. Oh well it's a neat look.
twitch 06-08-2002 04:19 PM

Nice!

Mach5WRX: Looks good. I know what you mean about the fit & finish. Especially around the front / back areas & edges. Heck, if it ever starts looking like crap, I'll primer & paint it the same color as the car. Are you on the big island or near Honolulu?
Mach5WRX 06-08-2002 05:34 PM

Honolulu:D Yeah I wish they matched up better in the front.

Where can I find the JDM wing extenders for sale?
commandoe99 06-09-2002 02:32 PM

zerosports spoiler ext question

I am buyin a WRX in the next 3 weeks and definitiely want the zerosports spoiler extension. Should i get the WRX without the wing then put both on together or is it still possible to add the extension to the existing wing that is already attached to the car.

Are both possible, one much harder than the other??

thanx alot
Scoobs 06-09-2002 04:46 PM

wow I forgot about this thread! thats why I never replyd.. anyway...I would like more info on the JDM wing extenders..it looks like its a whole peice 'i think' like it goes across the whole deck lid...any one know where to get these from?
twitch 06-09-2002 09:13 PM

Hard to install?

commandoe99: it isn't hard to install. I would order the spoiler already installed. That way you don't have to drill into the trunk lid yourself (I would be way too wuss-like to do that).

Installing the extenders is a snap. You remove the OEM bolts from the underside of the trunk lid, lift off the spoiler, & clean the trunk lid. You'll need to drill a hole on the tops of the spoiler extensions to accomodate the spoiler security cable. Drill slowly & deliberately with a drill press. Then you bolt the spoiler to the extensions. Finally you put the newly extended spoiler back on the trunk, feed the spoiler security cable back thru the holes in the trunk lid & bolt everything down. Maybe 1/2 hour if you are taking your time.
commandoe99 06-09-2002 09:32 PM

Thanx alot Twitch

machv.com has them. That is where I got mine. Vivid also has them. Look under body kits.

Get 'em.
Ski Man 06-10-2002 08:05 PM

Just got the replica (primered fiberglass) from Pam at Renick last Friday for $145 shipped. Was disappointed that these came without hardware, instructions or stoplight wire holes, and this was not mentioned up front.

So if you get this plan on getting 4 6mmX20mm bolts, gasket material or sealant for the holes between adaptor and trunk, taking time to mark and cut two holes for the wire, and splicing in another 4 inches of wire to fit.

On the good side - the cable holes were there and properly fitted as were the bolt holes. The fit and priming were good except for one slight oversanding goof that is barely visable. Delivery was quick and on time.

I'll post pics soon.

Zerosport adapter availability question

I ordered on Friday the Zerosport wing adapters from MachV only because they said they were in stock.......

I get an email today that states they will be shipped in 4-7 days! I am so dissapointed....... I want to cancel order if i can get sooner elsewhere, any ideas??

Replica Zero Sport Wing Adapters

I have the replica ones as well. The holes for the brake light wire was easy to drill. The bolts I got from Home Depot. I didn't have to add extra wire like the other guy on this post said. I just unclipped the last clip and it is enough slack.

I like them.
