2005 Studs on Ice time trial / track day on ice part 2

Snowphun 02-16-2005 04:02 PM

It was impressive to see a fleet of plow trucks leap into action between sessions. Especially the ones that were heading towards us as we were exiting the track (no way I was going to forget to pit out!).

I liked having snow on the outside of some of the turns as more than once it helped me scrape off speed when I went in too fast. Either way the always changing conditions were a lot of fun.
Ahh... the infamous snowbank-humping TT.
Tim you'll never believe this: I was running at an autocross up in Edinburg this past Sunday and someone was asking me about our upcoming Ice Trials this year. He said his friend wanted to run too and he pointed to a silver TT across the other side of the field. I said to myself "oh no it can't be!"

....It wasn't. :D

BTW, we will be doing an additional timed lap at the end of the event this year. Ever since we've gone to winter tires only, snowbank surfers have all but dried up. :)

Mike, I absolutely can't wait for it this year! :) I am pretty sure I am done with my experimental tire class. I'll be with some Hakkas studless tires.

And also with just a little more power :D

 Ahh... good times. That brings back memories... of sitting in line breathing in the fumes of the car ahead waiting for them to yank the TT out of the snow... again... :)

will *cough* rental cars be allowed?
will *cough* rental cars be allowed?
Any rental car with genuine winter tires [in good condition] are welcomed with open arms. :)

Yeah, that's about right. Hurray for the "winter tires only" rule, I'm impatiently waiting for this years event to arrive. Love the time trial setup.

So how's Round Lake looking this year, Mike? ;)

Great to hear it! Especially the studless tire part. You should do the same thing Otis Dimiters and Peter Monin did last year and stay overnight to race wheel to wheel the following day [contact free of course ;) ] We ran in the Street Legal Unstudded Class. Otis, Peter, and I had an awesome race. We pulled away from all of the other studless cars.

Peter and I [in my 4WD Sentra] had a great battle, but Otis drove away from us like we were standing still! Otis beat all of the studded cars too!

That would be nice wouldn't it? We'll know come February. :)
TimStevens 10-22-2005 12:13 PM

Amanda and I are actually moving to Rexford here in a month or so (assuming the closing goes ok on our house), so it won't be quite as close to us as before, but yeah, that'd definitely be nice. :)
Peter and I [in my 4WD Sentra] had a great battle,
He had a great battle... in MY car! :D What I love about that picture with my car in the background is the light bar - as I left the day before I told Peter to take the lights off so he wouldn't damage them. What I failed to say was that I meant for him to take the bar off too since that's what gets damaged - sure enough he nosed a snow bank and cracked one of the welds on the light bar!

This year I think we'll take turns coming up on different weekends to run the wheel to wheel races. It's not really pratical for us to share the car at your regular races. We have a simple agreement for that - You break it, you buy it! So this year I'll have gotten some practice in before the time trials event! Just don't let Studs conflict with Sno*Drift or Ontairo Winter Rally.

Alex
