just started watching the torrents. anyone else think Gigi Galli has a kinda Michael Schumacher look to him?
Hmmm, I haven't ever seen Michael do the "I don't know. I don't know" routine. But he does OK for being on such "crappy" tires. And wasn't Petter leading SS1 until his spin, and set fastest time for SS10? (Of course Loeb was cruising at that point). Their gravel tires seem to be at least somewhat competitive when they choose the right compound. You'll note neither Galli nor Atkinson were having puncture issues through day 2. Atkinson did complain about the compound being too hard on day 1 though - tire choice seems to have plagued them all season, which is definitely a Pirelli issue - they make the recommendations, after all.
I haven't seen the final results yet, just watched days 1 and 2 so far.
I wouldn't say Petter has complained. he's been very diplomatically holding his tongue. Smart guy.
Yep. Petter, for being as flamboyant as he is, does a pretty good job controlling himself. Though, back at the Swedish rally, where he could get away with speaking in the local media in Norweigian, he did pop off some snide comments that even surprised me.

yeh his 5 minutes of silence when talking to the reporter clued me in to how pissed off he is with both subaru and pirelli (most pirelli of course). Yes he was .1 seconds ahead on the last split of SS1 before his spin, but even after that he couldnt keep up, notice how his gap went from 17.9 seconds after SS1 to 20 seconds after SS2, he just started falling behind. Pirellis gravel tires are good, but nothing special compared to BFG, like BFG is compared to pirelli on tarmac.

Argh...someone needs to sneak into Kronos' shop, steal a Xsara, paint it blue and gold and give it to Petter.
And Ford needs to make their car stronger.
And someone needs to slash Loeb's tires!!

So is Marcus the new McCrash? He's faster than Seb at every event but keeps crashing out. If Petter can't beat the frog, I've been rooting for Marcus but that's not working out either. :furious: Seb just wait for the lead to come to him and then there's no catching him.

Ya i just dont get it, Loeb is an amazing driver no doubt but everyone else just has such bad luck. And what the hell is the tire deal, pirelli is killing subaru it seems. And as far as Marcus hes been quicker than Loeb most of the time, that new focus is very quick indeed, but hes also got horrid luck. Bah its a good fight still for the title.

Finally saw day three.
So... Atkinson: Brain fade, or brake fade? From the in-car it looks like he went straight off. A shame, he won an earlier stage on day three.

Looks to me like it was 100% driver error, I think they were something like 1.8k from the finish. Atikinson probably already crossed the finish line in a his mind and made a stupid mistake.
I was really pulling for Gronholm, that rock taking him out but not Loeb is just rotten luck and proof that its Loeb's season to win.
I'm not sure why Petter seems to be the only one who has big problems with his Pirellis? Atkinson and Galli are both running them and have no complaints. Maybe Petter is pushing that much harder.
Either way SWRT isn't having the best of years. :(

yeh it looked to me like atkinson just forgot he had to turn. He knew it was his own fault when he cursed at himself. that would be the time the co-driver could hit him.

Petter definitely pushes harder, and that means he is cutting deeper and running sideways off the swept line more. That will wear his tires faster and put him at far greater risk of puctures and other rock-induced damage.
Gronholm has the same issues, IMO. Loeb seems to cruise just a tiny bit more and wait for the guys pushing to make a mistake. Seems like a good strategy, by the results. Very Schumacher-esque.

Seems like Petter should adopt some of that style and ease off a tad until this tire situation gets sorted.

Loeb and everyone else's driving style and completely different. just watch the footage when Eurosport show the cars exit corners and other views. Loeb is just that much more under control and precise with his driving. And the Xsarra is an OLD car. Citroen want to replace it with a newer model for WRC use. The Focus WRC and Impreza WRC are actually much more superior machines.
outside of bringing back Tommi Makkinen to give guidance to Petter and dumping perrili, i am quite satisfied with competing for 2nd. Petter may have a chance at that.

Dust coming into the car distracted him and he missed his braking point.

Man, Loeb winning all the time is really killing my passion for the sport. I barely follow the Rallies anymore.

The basic Xsara design may be old, but the cars are updated/redesigned every year. There's nothing inferior about the Xsara, don't let the sheet metal fool you into thinking Subaru and the Focus are superior.
Loeb's a damn good driver, but if the Xsara was a sub-par platform, he wouldn't be winning like he has. I think the Xsara's record speaks for itself.

He may be pushing harder, but perhaps inappropriately? When you watch the Xsara exiting the corners it just plain looks like its exiting faster, and then Loeb has that touch of slip angle, maybe 3-4 degrees but the nose is still pointed straight, not really a drifting exit or anything. The subaru wrc car looks like it is chugging its way out of the corner and if Petter decides to push a little more the rear tires give and he ends up with a drift that reminds Petter of impending doom of spin-out. Its just so frustrating to watch, and I'm just a subaru driving spectator. I feel bad for Petter, a potentially great rally driver with terrible luck. Loeb is mister consistent, but so is the Xsara and his BFG tires. Nothing breaks, and nothing phases him.
I'm all for passion, but he shouldn't hit his co-driver. I saw him in a recent video collage do just that. That is not passion it is evidence of a jerk behind the wheel.
Much later but I've just seen the hit from Galli. Totally uncalled for. I would have smashed his nose right in, when he wasn't expecting it, like he did on D Amore, and left the team on the spot. No one is good or indispendable enough to hit a teamate that way.
