2006 Chargespeed bumper install and fitment issues... Help please

So i just got in my Chargespeed T-1A front bumper... This is my FIRST aftermarket bumper that I've ever gotten for any of my cars so I'm not familiar with fitment of these aftermarket bumpers. But since I have an APS 525 front mount intercooler I had to do a fair share of cutting of the bumper to make room for it. So after some cutting, the bumper fit pretty good around the front. However the sides of the bumper dont seem to want to go into the fender at all... They protrude a LOT and they wont seem to go into the fenders at all. I tried shaving a little bit of the bumper off, and still no luck... I circled the sides of the bumper in the pic that wont go in all the way.. Would anyone have any advice or experience with aftermarket bumper fitment? Or, better yet, has anyone put a chargespeed kit on their 06 WRX / Sti? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

just curious but do you have to run chargespeed fenders with the bumper?

Haha. Well, just send me some gasoline and matches..... I looked at all the body kits (ING's, Aqua, Syms, Chargespeed, Zero Sports) and this one I liked the best, and it wasn't as RIDICULOUSLY expensive as the others and it wouldn't take MONTHS to order and ship overseas. But I'm liking it!

well, looks like you found the reason why its cheaper and so readily available

So this is how far the fender sticks out... Any suggestions as to how to make it more flush?

Uhhh, are those your wheels too?
Just burn your car, with you in it. Sorry.
The INGs kit really is not that expensive, if you would have gotten some nicer cheaper wheels you could have had a nicer (IMHO) setup for the same price.

try warming the fiberglass. it may have flexed and gotten wider during shipping.

Can you show some pics of where the new bumper is fixed/bolted to the fenders and front of the car, it may help diagnose the problem.
For instance if you have fixed the front centre of the bumper too tight then the bumper returns could hang out like that.
Hope that made some sense!!!

It makes perfect sense. But I had to trim the bumper to make room for the FMIC. So there is planty of space now in the front... But how much do I have to heat the fiberglass? Would a hairdryer to the trick?

Now pay attention class ^^ that is a perfect example of an idiotic post. Note the lack of class and and especially note how irrelevant it is to the request by the original poster.
Now onto the problem. You really need to know what and where is causing the bad fitment. I suspect there may be a clearance issue, providing that bumper was indeed designed for the stock fenders. I use grease to find trouble spots with regard to fitment. Simply buy some grease that's a noticeable colour, like red. Then put a layer of the grease on all the inside edges of the bumper where it meets the fender. Temporary install, and then remove and look for where the grease has been transferred to the fender, and these will be your trouble spots. You'll need to now assess whether you can safely reduce those areas or not.
If it is indeed a case of the fiberglass being slightly out of shape then you will not see any grease transfer.

Looks like the bolt holes aren't in enough. You may want to drill the hole a little closer outwards so that you can push the bumper in. You will need to get a bolt with washers and a lock washer on the nut side to tighten and snug the bumper in. Hope that helps....I had to do that with one of my old kits on another car.

back the front of the bumper out a little bit and leave all the fasteners only hand tight until fitment is good. a heat gun with adjustable settings may work better. a hair drier doesn't get hot enough with good dispersion.

don't mean to sound rude but is your kit a replica or is it genuine chargespeed? if it's a geniune kit (which usually costs an arm & leg), i would think it should fit like a glove... could it be due to the fitment of your FMIC that is causing this fitting problem?

No, its a geniune Chargespeed piece. I got it from Versus Motorsports, the US distributor for Chargespeed. But like I said, this is my first body kit so I'm not too familiar with the installation and fitment of these things... I'm just gonna have my body shop guy take a look at it.

righto, that really sucks... i would think genuine kits should fit like a glove. anyway, hope you get it sorted. nice kit you got there.

hmm i thought genuine kit fits good.....maybe some extra mounting point and force it to fit right ? if not then probably just need to take it to body shop..

Weird, but last I checked, he wasn't asking your blessings for the look of his car or his wheels. Not everyone likes completely-stock look and then pass it off as "a clean-azz ride" like many people here...
Anyway, back on topic, usually if the bodykit sticks out on the sides a little bit like that, what you could do is to take it off, then try to install it "in reverse". This is hard to explain, but get a friend, and you guys go on each side, and push in from the sides first before fitting the front. If the sides fit flush and the front looks "ok", you could just bolt in the sides first, and then work on the front afterward. The sides are usually a bit harder to fit than the front. If all else fails, you could always try the heatgun method to make the fiberglass flexible enough to work with...

No aftermarket pieces will ever fit good. I have the full zerosports kit on my 06 and am very unhappy with the fitment. Sideskirts to no match up at all and the front bumper and rear bumper sit weird.

Thanks! the car has gotten A LOT of attention since the front bumper.... I just removed the stock plastic clip holder inside the fender and that gave me a bit more room. I also screwed the bumper into the fender with a plate in between the fender and the bumper.... It was a REAL PITA to get on. I had to jack the car up on stands and get under the bumper and inside the fender to screw in... But it's on finally

I forgot to say above, if you get the matching sideskirts i am sure it will look much better becasue of how wide the bumper makes it look. As chargespeed sideskirts are fairly wide.

But props for you for getting it done.
what did you go with for your drop?
Right now I only have the Tein H-Tech springs. I didn't want anything TOO low. And my front bumper REALLY cant afford any more of a drop in ride height. I eventually would like to get some coil overs when I get the $$$, or if I can find a sponsor along the way
