A-Pillar Gauges & Mount
It seems that the only 2 A-Pillar manufacturers, AutoMeter and Gaugepods.com, come in either black or dark grey respectively. Does anyone offer A-Pillar gauges that blend in better w/ the tan A-Piallr mounts in the stock 02 WRX? Would painting the black or dark grey A-Pillar mount look nice or would it look crappy? What type and where can I get the specific paint to do it with? Is there any other manufacturers that offer A-Pillar mounts in 2 1/16 or 2 5/8 in a color much closer to the stock WRX A-Pillars? Would black look that bad for an aftermarket A-Pillar? Thanks.

Well it seems that even though Autometer states that they've already come out w/ a A-Pillar mount for the 02 WRX that they are NOT shipping them till May-June 02 :(. Why did they even bother to say they have them now when we have to wait like 3-4 months? Anyways so does anyone know if another car's ( Honda, Nissan, etc. ) A-Pillar mount would fit into a 02 WRX? I really don't care if it was meant for another manufacturer if it fits and looks nice. I spoke w/ Hybrid Preformance 2 days ago and they are suppose to get back w/ me. We'll see :o.

The interior paint should match the car perfectly, but now the question is will tan paint cover up existing black. I would think with enough coats it should do fine. The paint itself is pretty thick, and I think it should only take a couple coats at most. Try it on a demo piece.

The gauge pod search is frustrating, so I went ahead and bought the greddy universal a pillar gauge pod. It fits my 60mm Apexi Mechnical boost gauge. At first I thought that it would not fit the piller well, but I bought a heat gun and molded it to the piller.
I'll post pics soon.

Those people locally, remain nameless for now, did NOT call me back yet :(. I can't find their numbers anywhere? I would like to see if someone locally can rig up something that works, looks nice, and cost effective ... I could be dreaming :D. Anyone else have any other ideas?
| porkchop | 02-01-2002 08:40 PM |
I've heard that you can boil the greddy pod in water and form it to the pillar....
has anyone tried this? I'm too, am frustrated with the search for dual pillar 60mm gauge pods, and with all the problems people are having with gaugepod.com, I rather not buy from them.
if someone can direct me on forming the greddy pod to the pillar or point me to the right direction...it would be much appreciated..
Thanks

I don't know much about the WRX interior and stuff since I don't have one, but www.isrperformance.com has a dual gauge pod for the GC8. You might be able to talk to them and have them make you guys one. Also, about the ones that only come in black or dark grey. Has anyone tried to dye them to match the WRX interior color? Just my .2

I keep getting strange answers concerning the AutoMeter guage pod PN 22593? I called some Internet company yesterday on the driving to go biking and they said that AutoMeter has one for the WRX and they should get it next week. I stated that I called AutoMeter directly and they said they wouldn't really ship till like end of May/June 2002? They asked that I call them back on Monday when AutoMeter is open to see the situation ... we'll see.
| PureWRX | 02-03-2002 11:34 PM |
For those interested, I too have been desperately waiting for an A-pillar gauge pod for my two 2-1/16" gauges collecting dust. Two weeks ago I contacted Autometer who replied via. e-mail concerning the 2-1/16" DUAL PILLAR for the SUBARU WRX, 02.
E-mail from autometer:
"This item is available.
You can order it by calling your local speed shop.
They will have to special order this part using model #22592"
I then contacted Summitracing.com about this item and they agreed that this item IS available for special order listed as item ATM-22592 for $49.95.
I placed the order earlier last week, with a maximum estimate time of delivery being two weeks. I will tell you guys as soon as I get the e-mail confirming it's shipment to me from summitracing.com. This should lay to rest, I hope, that an a-pillar gauge pod is truely available for purchase with a delivery time less than a half a year (gaugepods.com).
The pillar is black, however I think I will paint it grey when it arrives to match the stock color of the a-pillar.
My question is, does ANYONE know the color code of the interior grey color of the stock a-pillar for the WRX?? Please?!?!

Update
So I just got off the phone w/ Stillen.com. They were able to get a hold of AutoMeter and AutoMeter stated they DID have 22592 and 22593 and would be able to drop ship to me today. So I went ahead and ordered the 22593 ( 3 pods ) from Kenny @ x185 @ Stillen.com. Kenny seems very responsive and stated he would order from AutoMeter and have it shipped out today so I should hopefully have it by the end of the week. I hope my dealing w/ both of these new companies will be a "good" experience.
| chuglobal | 02-04-2002 01:05 PM |
Also
The price for 22592 @ $60 and 22592 @ $65 which is about right. $10 for shipping ... so $75 for me w/ shipping for those who wants to know. I hope the AutoMeter gauge pod is a nicely designed product.
| YeeHa | 02-04-2002 01:08 PM |
Guys please keep us informed when you get the pod and how the fitment is. I hope they are finally ready and fit well.

I also just ordered my AutoMeter Boost & EGT gauge from Jegs.com. It should be here Friday ... I hope the pod and guages will be here on Friday so I can install them along w/ the Vishnu Up-Pipe on Sat :D ... hope is the key word :(.

Yes, I talk to summit yesterday and they told me they were available for special order and the estimated shipping time was 2-3 weeks. I am sooo itching to just order mine too right now........:D

Should all the gauges be a standard size? So if the gauge is 2 1/16 from any manufacturer should fit into any 52mm pod housing.

Jamie ("Subie Gal"),
I know this will sound crazy, but would it be possible to do the little gauge pod in the left corner and one in the right corner in the USA WRX?
What size gauges do these hold?
Price and availability?
The reason I ask, is because I am now on a faster track, getting my fuel system upgrade component all together, and I really need to figure out how to get a couple more gauges in my WRX.
ps ... thanks again for the wonderful Nurburgring video ... it is awesome!
Thanks in advance for your reply to my question above, GoodFinder :)

I still have not heard anything from Stillen.com where I bought my AutoMeter A-Pillars PN: 22593 not AutoMeter themselves. Howver I did get my gauge in yesterday and will try to install them today w/ duck tape until my gauge pods come in :(. Anybody know the tap and bit size to use to drill into the right-hand exhaust manifold for the AutoMeter EGT PN: 4344?

Based on your earlier posting, I called Kenny at Stillen.com yesterday morning and placed my order for the 3 gauge pod A pillar piece. chuglobal,
Kenny at stillen.com just called to let me know that he spoke with Autometer this morning and that they confirmed they will be shipping the A pillar 3 gauge pod this evening from their stock. However, there is a slight bit of delay due to shipping. Autometer will not "drop ship" directly to customers, so it has to go to Stillen first, and then Stillen can ship it to the actual customer. Maybe that's why yours is a few more days in arriving than you expected?

News on my autometer a-pillar from SummitRacing.com:
Estimate time of arrival is now 2/27.
Well over a week later when given the original estimate.
I am assumimg all of you who ordered yours from Stillen will be getting yours much earlier than I will. None-the-less, I will still keep all those interested informed to it arrival. And, if someone has not done so by then, I will post some pics so everyone can get a close detailed look at how the pod looks, both before and after installation.

Thanks everyone on the info. Kenny also called me earlier today but I was out playing w/ my new mods in the REX on my vacation day from work ... I took a vacation day just to install mods  ... I'm so bad. Anyways Kenny called and said he'd call me back and I have yet to hear from him; I called a few minutes ago and they said he was out for the rest of the day. I hope I get my AutoMeter gauge pods soon so I can use my new gauges, currently I'm using cheap fixes to mount the boost and will work on the EGT soon. Stillen better drop ship or refund some of my money I paid for "drop shipping." I'll let everyone know how everything turns out ... I'll also post pics if I get them in soon :D.

what about the 3pod a pilllar gauge from gaugepods.com? how well does that fit on the wrx? anyone have pics?
| chuglobal | 02-09-2002 11:48 AM |
Yo
I know a few people w/ them and these are their opinions: low price, ok install, and crappy customer service. They were the ONLY ones to market w/ the A-Pillar for the WRX until AutoMeter recently came out w/ theirs ... I think. I think we ( WRX owners ) will get screwed somehow since we are the first and not many companies will have this products so we either wait for them and deal w/ their politics or go w/ someone else :(. I hate dealer w/ crappy customer service so neither company is really catching my eye but I really want a A-Pillar so I have to wait :(.
| GoodFinder | 02-09-2002 02:50 PM |
Well, I ordered the 3 gauge A pillar pod from gaugepods.com, too, in addition to ordering the Autometer one through Stillen.com. The way I figured, if I really do end up with both of them, the way these things have been so slow in coming, surely somebody on i-club will buy from me the one I don't use. GoodFinder :)
| chuglobal | 02-09-2002 06:03 PM |

... and I really really want the 3 gauge A-pillar pod within the next two weeks because I am doing a significant fuel system upgrade and really want to do my next 3 gauges at the same time ... the WRX is an addiction (!) ... more parts, more tuning, never satisfied, always questing for further refinement ...

Lotek (gaugepods.com) is a nice replacement pillar. They will paint it to match and it does match exactly. And the paint is tough....trust me...:) Pic below...
Everyone who sees it really likes the fit and finish and says it looks factory... in terms of look. Wouldn't it be nice if OEMs built gauge pods like an A-pillar already in the car? Sure Subaru has they're "Gauge Pack".... but the automotive industry its going more and more name brand oriented (ie- our MOMO steering wheel). So why couldn't Subaru inlist Omori or Greddy or Apex or Blitz or whomever to do this for them... Sure would be nice........

2 Gauge pillar vs. 3
Where do the two line up? Are they evenly spaced between the 3 or do they take the 3 gauge and chop the top or bottom pod off?
