Anyone down for a spec Focus GT4 challenge?

I am working on digging up the specs so I can come up with the mod list for setting up a spec focus in GT4
So far it looks like
2600lbs min- which means SVT focus, do stage 1 lightening, then add 15kg ballast
RC suspension, Looks like rates in the 2.9k front 5.0K rear max are the rule.
22m F sway, so leave it as is with the RC suspension
25mm r sway, bump RC sway up 1 notch
User adjustable ride height
user asjustable camber
stage 1 exh
no engine mods otherwise
any clutch, must leave flywheel stock
1.5 LSD (still researching this, quaiffe is allowed, need to find out more about the quaiffe)
roll cage
R medium tires
no brake changes allowed, as the upgrade increases rotor size.
No driving aids whatsoever
So far the one I set up has managed a 1:42.344 at laguna seca, which is about a sec faster than my spec miata car. But of course this is with my driving that isnt that great.
As far as driving setups go
People using dual shock will add between 1.5 and 2 sec to their times (opinions on this?)
The DF Pro wheel will be set to
active steering off
gt force/driving force- simulation
Power assist- off
Anyone interested?
I figure we will pick a track, then pick a certain number of laps, and take the best single lap time from that session.
Then post results here from each race, assign points to each race and top 5 places, and keep track of total points for the "season" in this or another thread. Not sure how many races and what tracks, but we can determine that if we get enough interest.
We could also do a spec miata series, or that instead.
Or we could pick another car and set it up in a similar fashion.
Well?

how about setting up a subie? might get more hits that way, but a cool idea none the less. Im too busy perfecting my drifting skills with my S15, but maybe if it picks up, Ill join in.
| Davenow | 05-23-2006 01:27 PM |
Yeah a subie would be totally doable, just need to pick a class, and figure out the mod list.
And I put it here because I figured I would get more people that would be serious into it. People who can actually drive. Ya know?
If this doesnt get any decent response here, Ill get it moved to OT :)

I've printed out the specs and will load the car up tonight.
I'll be sure to get Jonathan in on it too. (he owned all at the WBM GT4 setup....undefeated with everyone on every track he did!)

Too bad I dont have a PS, I would join in. Are you racing head to head or just posting times? I might know where I can find a PS2.

What we should really do is get GT4 working with Xlink and race head to head over the internet!

Gary, I was wondering if you could give me the rundown on your car, so we can maybe do an STI race as well at some point.
As for the spec focus, just figure out the conversion to KG in that spring rate range.
I havent been able to nail down what teh allowable rates are, but those I read (the ones above) seem likely to be in the range
IIRC it was in the 8.5k f 10.2k rear or something like that. The car is nice too, rotates nicely off throttle, maybe a bit too much, but I have never driven one set up like that, so I cant say.

And are'nt the spring rates backwards in GT4?

I don't know what your experiences with XLink are, but mine weren't all that great. I haven't had time to try it out more than a few times, but the few races I've managed have been VERY laggy.
At first, I tried racing with some guys in Europe as that is all that was available at the time I started. Later in the day, I managed to do a one-on-one with someone across the country (read: not much better than East Coast to Europe) but it was so laggy that we ended up having a drift battle instead.
I was going to try again with someone more local to me (NYC/NNJ area), but I ran out of free time. So I would be up to trying this out again if we can arrange a time for it.
I was told november for forza and october for GT5
Or it could have been the other way around. Who cares, its not like either has a prayer in hell of coming out anywhere near then
Precisely. GT4 took almost five years to develop. It only came out about two years ago, and GT5 is supposed to be better (read: more dev time. Did you know it took 3D modelers up to one month to construct the more detailed cars for GT4?). So realistically, we're looking at another three years before we see another ground-up GT game.
They had GTHD (Vision Gran Turismo) on display at E3, and I got to play it. Impressions: improved physics (marginally), same retard computer drivers, nice to have more cars on the track (but still only 12), still no crash physics, still no cars flipping, same old graphics (which actually look worse in HD, because the increased resolution allows you to see every little imperfection in the car models and track models, which are direct ports from GT4 so far).
The game only claims to be 20% through the development process, so there is lots of time for improvement... and as we have all mentioned before, if GT4 came out two years ago and GTV is only 20% through production, the next GT game is likely 5~8 years away?!
Unless they're hiding something from us... either way, it's a "who cares?" scenario, because I can't afford a $660 PS3 + $80 GTV + $?? controller + $?? memory card JUST TO START!
I haven't really played much GT4 since I got a WRX anyway. ;) Plenty of real driving to be done out there.

The bound/rebound settings were pre-determined in the spec miata gt4 series I saw, but I dont think they should be, after all, in the real race, you can adjust your own, so as far as I am concerned there is no reason not to allow it.
And yes, toe is user adjustable

I was looking at the Spec Focus rules that NASA uses. They only use an inverted strut. Says nothing about adjustment. Also, springs are limited to 4 different kinds:
SVT (129 F, 157 R)
Ford Racing Dynamic Springs (111-161 F, 100-280 R)
Eibach Pro Kit
Eibach Sportline
It didn't give a spring rate for the Eibach's

The Ford spring rates, most reasonably, are in lbs/inch.
There are roughly 2.2 lbs in 1 kg.
There are 25.4 mm in 1 inch.
I'll spare you the work of converting the units - the number to use for conversion ends up being 2.2 * 25.4 = 55.88.
To get kg/mm from lbs/inch, divide by 55.88.
To get lbs/inch from kg/mm, multiply by 55.88.

The SVT is the other one, the 170hp focus. I forget what the model name is, but its the only other focus in the list.

The ST170 is the one to use.
The RS is turbocharged, and section 11.12 of the NASA rules prohibits forced induction.
I got down to 1:39.661 with the settings from the first post, except for the front spring rate. I put that as low as the RC suspension would allow, but it's still above the Ford Racing Dynamic Springs range. I think 1:38's should be possible.
The SVT is the other one, the 170hp focus. I forget what the model name is, but its the only other focus in the list.
The ST170 is the one to use.

So is there a final decision on vehicle choice and mod list? I'm in the middle of playing another game, but I'd love to see what I can do in GT4 again.
No the RS is more powerful

That's what I thought, I'll get back to ya :).

2600lbs min- which means SVT focus, do stage 1 lightening, then add 15kg ballast
RC suspension,
rates in the 2.9k front 5.0K rear max are the rule.
22m F sway, so leave it as is with the RC suspension
25mm r sway, bump RC sway up 1 notch
User adjustable ride height
user asjustable camber
stage 1 exh
no engine mods otherwise
any clutch, must leave flywheel stock
1.5 LSD (still researching this, quaiffe is allowed, need to find out more about the quaiffe)
roll cage
R medium tires
no brake changes allowed, as the upgrade increases rotor size.
No driving aids whatsoever
So far the one I set up has managed a 1:42.344 at laguna seca, which is about a sec faster than my spec miata car. But of course this is with my driving that isnt that great.
As far as driving setups go
People using dual shock will add between 1.5 and 2 sec to their times (opinions on this?)
The DF Pro wheel will be set to
active steering off
gt force/driving force- simulation
Power assist- off
I figure we will pick a track, then pick a certain number of laps, and take the best single lap time from that session.
Then post results here from each race, assign points to each race and top 5 places, and keep track of total points for the "season" in this or another thread. Not sure how many races and what tracks, but we can determine that if we get enough interest.
So right now, its Laguna seca.
Looks like a lot of people have done it now, and it looks like our leader right now is
zaarin with a 1:35.222
I say we stay with Focus's for another track or so, and we do Tsukubu next.
Then since a few have asked, its spec miatas for a couple tracks, then some sort of Subaru class. We should have Gary determine the mod list for that one :) All I will say on it, is that In my opinion, it should be a minimal, if any, power mods class.

lowest you can go down in the front is 4.1k
| Davenow | 05-25-2006 06:33 PM |
What about the next lower suspension??? Ill try that and see what I can get for rates and adjustability
| MattGC8 | 05-25-2006 10:53 PM |
I have GT4 and yes, I love the game as much as the next simracer. But as many have said, there's nothing like head-to-head. Anyone here in this thread down for some Live Forza? Maybe some Spec Miatas or Subarus for that matter...

I would. I prefer Forza to GT4. But I am unemployed, so I can do both.

Bastard! 1:39.253
1:38's are definitely possible if you can nail all of the turns.
Care to share suspension setup info? I can't figure out a good way to evaluate camber in the game.

Chris, what did you use for the spring rates? And are you using a steering wheel or a controller?
