custom a-pillar for impreza wagons

i talked to lo-tek today ( http://www.gaugepods.com/ ), regarding a-pillars for the GGA wagons. since the roof on an impreza wagon is about 1" taller than that on a sedan, there is currently no solution for mounting gauges there, without extensive modifications to sedan pillars, and even then they look like crap.
lo-tek would of course need a sizeable order to even consider producing any, so i am trying to get an idea as to how interested people would be. i personally want a two gauge pod, as others will want one that holds three. part of the deal would be that they come already painted to match the stock pillar.
i have also talked to a vendor about leading the process, and we are awaiting the results of this poll to see if it is a worthwile venture.
here is an example of a sedan pod:

You should just use my Gauge Mask setup and mount the gauges on the dash. See pics here:

I heard only bad things about Lo-Tek Pods.
Some say they cant see the gauges cause they face the window.
Anyway,i would love to see a apillar for my Wagon. =)

I have this setup and it is great, but I want a couple more gauges so a 2 gauge a-pillar pod would be great.
Has anyone talked to Vivid to see if they would make one? Apparently they are making one themselves (or having it outsourced) for the sedans.

if i were to go with a dash pod, i'd use the omori, which can take 52mm gauges -- i like it's design more than the OEM style.

good idea! i haven't had the best experiences with vivid in the past, but it may be a worthwhile venture if the lo-tek deal falls through the cracks. notice the image i included for this post is served from vivid's site ( thanks vivid! ).

they are molded to a 6:00 angle ( directly to the trunk ), as opposed to the an ideal 5:00 ( more towards the driver ). part of the negotiation would be to recommend improvments to the facing angle of the pod.

I wanted a 2 gauge 60mm pod. Since no one makes one, I used a Lotek sedan pod. I modified it by using a heat gun on the bottom rear portion so that it would line up with the door opening. This left a gap at the bottom but it really isn't too bad. The top is mounted where it should be. All in all, I'm happy with the results.

Here is my attempt at getting the sedan lotek pod to fit in a wagon. I had to use a heat gun on the pod right below the bottom gauge on the drivers window side (not the windshield side) since it stuck out into the door opening. The plastic responded well to heating up and it was fairly easy.

I matched the top edge of the pod so the bottom has a gap after you modify the side to match the driver door opening.

One more picture. The gauges are DEFI BF series. The control unit is mounted in the glove box.

the thread wont let me vote either but i would like a pod.. doesnt matter to me if its a 3 or a 2 pod as long as there is one for WAGONS
| bugnutty | 12-08-2002 08:38 PM |
bamboo: that install looks really clean. i may go that route if nothing materializes from the results of this post... thanks for posting the pics... there is also a gauge thread that you should post on and make it clear that this is in a GGA. again, nice work.

I have a Wagon here in Brazil and i just received a A-Pillar Pod from Autometer.
I know it does not fit perfect into the wagon,,but i will take it to a shop that makes custom car audios and they have a heat gun and i will ask them to mold it so it can fit the Wagon..
after that i will paint it grey and stick it with 3M double side tape:D
Anyone knows if this can be possible??I want to reach perfection with the heat gun,,i want the pod to fit perfectly.
Thanks
Tuca

p.s. at least the online pictures look nice!

Unfortunately, they are only manufacturing 3 gauge pods for the wagon. I e-mailed them about a month ago and they indicated that they weren't planning on a 2 gauge wagon pod.

2-gauge! 2-gauge! I thought 3, too, but it's definitely too cluttered. I say you put your boost and EGT on the pillar for quick reference - other gauges can go in a pod and replace the clock.
Yeah, and I'll test fit, but I'll warn you, I'm actually considering selling my car soon. But if it doesn't pan out, I want gauges!! :D

i agree that 3 is too cluttered. 2 is perfect for the a pillar and if you don't like the dash pods, like me, then there is always the autometer intrument cluster pod.

Um, take a heat gun to your lotec one and reform the top. I did and it fits perfectly now. You can't tell it is less than an inch shorter than suppose to be. I've done a few reforms for people in the past with beautiful results. I pushed the pillar up a 1/4" after this shot to take care of the slight gaps. No visible gap at the bottom as well. There was quite a bit of reforming needed, if you've tried to install a sedan one you know ;)

But then again I am a little more 'handy' than others with these things. Plus I have a low tolerance for poor work. I make these for audis as an example of attention to detail.
