I wouldn't worry too much. I'm pretty confident you'll make the Finale. You've got 14 points, that puts you well within the top half of the class in STX. And that's assuming National limits the invites. Last year, I think they invited everyone who had attended 2 events, because a local guy had 2 points (i.e. the minimum for attending 2 events) and he got an invite. I'd guess that with the date change for the Finale, enough people won't be able to make it that you shouldn't worry at all. Heck, I wasn't worrying last week when I had my grand total of 6 points. :p
Don't forget that last year we even had a "single event" class. That means there was extra registration room such that everyone who had two events got into their class. The single event folks were *not* eligible for their own class, though (so as not to let them spoil for folks that did have two), but did get to run in a special indexed class (and they had to run first plus they weren't eligible for the Super or Ladies challenge).
I'm fairly certain someone with 14 points will get in, especially with attendance being *way* down at events this year. There are a good many of the limited amount of competitors so far that will qualify in multiple classes, in fact, but can obviously only run in one.

I fabricated a new endlink before I left for DC. The Strano bar with my improvements held up well, no problems at all. That makes two events without incident, now I just need to get to the gas station more often. My RTs were mostly between .56x to .68x with my best 60 ft being 1.900 . I was launching at 5300 - 5500 range.
, man you guys are mean to your cars.
I was launching at 4500-5000rpm and still getting crazy wheelspin. I dropped back to 3500rpm in the wet, and yeah, I think there was a big Subaru magnet in the mud/grass island 'cause I know Stompy twisted a little in that direction for me too. :)
Karen
Lucky you....my evo was bogging with launch control at 6k rpm and building 10-12 psi......I think the lightweight flywheel has something to do with it, the car was just hooking up very well...it sucks to have AWD and your best 60ft is 1.96...oh well, at least I know where those 4/10's are to catch Lee ;)
It was nice meeting you too Karen, and good work in the Ladies Challenge.

Did I see him move backwards first? And you had to reverse as well? Did this happen to many people with the hilly start and the rain? That's crazy...Sam Strano had comment he felt he went backward before he went forward once or twice..

Pretty much done processing the video. Here's my second run on the right course, which ended up being my most entertaining run (not exactly fast, though!)...

Warning: bad language :) (bad launch) At the end, I'm just happy I missed the finish cones.
reverse lights were on. he launched in reverse.
That seems like a silly mistake at this particular Pro. Given that there was NO need to put the car in reverse for staging. If you staged too deep, you just let off the brake a little and immediately rolled backward.
At that point there was no pre-stage light on the left, so it was easy to overshoot the stage light.
Oh sure, but if you actually put the car IN REVERSE, you'd have overshot it way too far the other way and gotten a DNF for not being staged at all. I just kept the clutch in, and just eased off the brake pedal ever so slowly.

some people do their staging routine the same way, everytime, regardless of external influences like staging on a hill.

Very true. In fact, I believe there are some people that e-brake or heel/toe *every* start just in case they have to do it on a hill. Just so they do the same thing every time.

OK point taken. As for e-braking all the time, I think I might try that. My RTs this time were way better than usual and I also had less RLs than usual (other than during practice starts, where I struggled with deep staging due to the hill). I think having to time putting the e-brake down helped my brain have something to do and helped with my rhythm. Then again, it could also have just been pure luck!
| djb_rh | 06-29-2006 08:37 PM |
Interesting. I don't e-brake all the time, and I generally average about .05s slower when I do have to e-brake (I'm generally in the .550's at Pros, but I am around .600 when I have to e-brake). I think I'll just live with the slower RT at e-brake sites. I'm not sure I can regularly do much better if I have to e-brake.
That said, drag launches are different for everyone. If e-braking made your average better, I'd definitely do it all the time. It's a rhythm thing, certainly.
