Great, two things,
1. How much
2. How about making something that doesn't look like plastic trying to be metal for the center part of the wheel???
Cheers,
Joel

NICE.....didn't you say you can't do it for 05 STIs as of yet??...If you can, how much??
Hank3 10-14-2004 08:49 AM

Any ideas on how well the suede will last (i.e. wear and tear)? You know how leather gets shiny and smooth in the places where you touch it most? I believe most drivers will see this anywhere from the 8 o'clock to 11 o'clock position on their steering wheel.
Synth 10-14-2004 10:15 AM

Very nice!
pezman04wrx 10-14-2004 10:51 AM

Awesome ... Do they fit a regular WRX wheel as well? Just not sure if the STI and WRX wheels are the same or not ... Thanks ... Oh and I second the request on a price, although $8.38 is pretty darn appealing  ...
RaceComp Engineering 10-14-2004 10:53 AM

we offer all the wheels in suede, but currently we only have the 04 sti wheels as cores. Yes the cruise stalk is functional as well as airbag. We only need the wheel, and that way the customer is repsonsible for the airbag removal and install, which is very easy. The hardest part is getting the wheel removal tool. We can provide a whole wheel, or send us yours as a sore. send inquiries to....

ps. yes alcantara, red, blue, black are coming, and yes 2.5 RS, WRX, 02-05, sti 04-05 and new legacy Gt.

My friend has an M roadster and has a polished knob that he got from some guy. It was a big joke for a while.

I have to ask... why is it so expensive? I don't know enough about the embroidery process, perhaps you could give some insight?

Because you're working with a core wheel that is swapped with the customer, the cost of the wheel is essentially negated.

I'm guessing the suede doesn't cost too much. Obviously the price is covering R&D efforts and I respect that.

So you get the wheel and cut off the leather. That sounds fairly easy, even with the glue that's likely under the surface. Then you wrap it with a piece of suede that I assume is a decently easy piece to cut out. The sewing and tightening is where the money goes, no?

Again, I have no idea what's involved in the process. Care to share? Within reason, of course.

Oh yeah, and will you guys be making a matching suede shift boot to match? :)

Man..that steering wheel looks GREAT! I want one. Im sure its not as easy as you think. The cost is VERY reasonable for the work that I see. Look at it tihs way. You can get a Sparco or Momo and at what price? The price of losing your AIRBAG! Yikes. Dont wanna do that.

The way I see it...were getting the benefits of an aftermarket wheel...while still being safe...especially us guys under warranty  and us who dont want their insurance company not paying in case of an accident for removing a safety equipment. Just my .02 cents.
subieworx 10-14-2004 04:50 PM

Suede shift knob would be badass. I would jump on that immediately.

Well, I meant no offense by my post. I think it was misinterpreted. I simply don't know what's involved in the process, and thus the price surprises me. That's simply because I know nothing about the process. I'm sure that it's worth what is charged and I respect that, I was just wondering if you guys could give some info on how you do it. I'm just interested for knowledge's sake.
bert_WRX 10-15-2004 06:28 AM

could you pm me a price and everything that is involved to get my steering wheel coverd. looks great let me know thanks...

Thanks!

Rail 10-17-2004 06:40 PM

Myles, you said you only have the 04 STi cores in at the moment. When are you expecting 04 WRX cores? Also, if the cores aren't coming in anytime soon, how long would the turnaround be if I sent you my wheel to be recovered? Please PM me with pricing.
Paulie 10-17-2004 06:47 PM
its good, but we are now using the baseball stitch like on the current wheel
Is there a reason why you switched to the baseball stitch? Was it more cost effective? I liked how the previous stitching looked factory...

Can the original style stitching be done if requested? I don't mind paying a little more if cost was the issue...

Also, How are the recovered dash boards coming?

Rail, thanks alot for hanging in there. I was in La and Andrew has been helping me out with NASIOC alone, so thanks.

We need cores, for all the various cars. we cant keep up with the demand, so ys if you send me the wheel, turno around time is 10 days,..and so this is why we need cores. I go 8 days in California, and its no big deal, as I was driving a sweet STI last summer for those 8 days. SO we will have our cores soon, so on-one has to wait.

I don't know if it's been mentioned earlier... what's the ETA on wrapping '05 STi wheels?

waiting for my first core to come now. So 2 weeks before we have our cores for 2005 cars.

the alcantara would resist the sweat from your hands morem than suede,..the suede would just look like leather after 6 months if your hanbs sweat THAT MUCH>....otherwise the suede is incredible.........
