Yep, day one he just needs to be in the hunt. Solberg is in good position. His biggest concern is going off, or mechanical problems, like last time.

Anyone else in utter disbelief that both Mitsu's retired after one stage with electrical problems? How can that be, for a team that took a year off to re-develop a car? Kinda sad to see, and not a good statement on the state of the WRC.
To be honest, the whole WRC picture does not seem as exciting this year, to me. Of course I'm glad to see Petter doing well, Markko too, but there are too few cars/teams, and not enough real competition or interesting stories. Tougher to follow too, without rally radio, no daily vid clips on the WRC site, etc. Is it just me or what?
Even these rally threads seem to be "dead" this year with far less participation...why is that? Thoughts?

Well, Hyundai & Skoda aren't competing yet, Mitsu is starting over (sorta), Peugot has steering problems. There has been a lack of depth to the competition. Once Peugot is reliable again, and either Mitsu, Hyundai or Skoda (pic one) gets kinda cometitive, it will be good. Plus, the early rallies are spaced so far apart that the early season seems quiet.

Solberg is never "Cocky" confident at times but never cocky.
When he first signed on to Subaru he was very aggressive and crashed alot (he wrecked many a foci when with ford)...as he matured he always has been very greatful for his ride with Subaru something you rarely see in other drivers. Along with his gratitude grew confidence not only in himself but the team as a whole. I believe this is one of the main reasons why he is such a very popular driver
Lets hope Mikko take a similar path...we'll see in about 3 years

Nice to see Hirvonen giving Subaru some points. Hopefully he'll keep improving and get us a Manufacturers championship. I know Petter will pull his weight.

Doubtful with only 2 drivers.. but hopefully we can at least beat the Pugs.
Petter Solberg / Phil Mills: "It's been a incredible rally, the whole week has just been amazing. I tell you, if there's one man you don't want behind you on the last day, it's Marcus Gronholm and we were both pushing like hell out there. He had trouble, then I had trouble, I'm totally exhausted, but overall it's been really, really good fun. Rallying is a very special sport and to win here is a great feeling. I have so many people to thank in the team at Subaru and Pirelli, but here in New Zealand I'd like to dedicate this win to Possum Bourne."
