GOTO:Racing's Grand-Am Debut at Laguna Seca This Weekend

5/3/2006 Monterey, CA- This weekend, May 6, will mark the Grand-am Debut of both the Subaru marque and brothers Brian and Chris Lock at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The pair of California natives, most recently known from the US Touring Car Championship, will be piloting the GOTO:Racing GAC spec Legacy GT, attempting to make their mark in the super competitive Grand-Am Cup Series.
Brian Lock has already established a name for himself in USTCC, taking second in the Driver's Championship and rookie of the year honors in 2005. His older brother, Chris, is an accomplished road racer with two Honda Challenge Championships in 3 years, as well as an impressive enduro record with Brian as a co-driver. The pair have high expectations for their performance and for their team.
"Our Grand-Am effort this weekend is the result of 3 years of hard work," says Brian, "It was then that we decided to make a serious run at professional racing. From the beginning, Grand-Am has been our target. It is a thrill that we get to realize this dream with a Subaru."
GOTO's 2006 sponsors include Gruppe-S Tuning, DMS North America, Racing Brake, and Canepa Design, without which none of this would have been possible.

Man, they were 8th or so in practice. Looks like they never got a clean lap as they were 1.5 secs off their practice times.
Hopefully you guys can get out of the think of the pack and knock out those 44s :)

Hello,
Don't mix classes! GOTO is in ST, the "leaders" are in GS. ST's leader is Colembie/Holtom, running 1:41s. The second fastest ST cars are mid 1:42.x (ie, Turner), though there's a large pack of cars in the mid-to-high 1:42 range. The Locks qualified 24th, at 1:45.9, but we've already seen that they have 1:44.2s in them.
For their first time out, that's damn good.
Good luck in a couple hours at the race!

Hello,
With a world of Yellows right now, GOTO is currently in 9th place of the ST cars. You can see the current standings at:
http://grandamerican.vfx.com/Rolex/GrandAmerican_800.asp
And you can listen to a live feed from the track at:
http://www.grandamerican.com/content/audio/2005/English.asx
According to the comments, there's a chance that the pace car has led the race more laps than any race car... even the tow trucks might be "race leaders" at this point. That sucks...
Listening live, while cleaning / packing the house (heh, advantage of listening versus watching the race).

Hello,
JEEEZ... another big spin and they're in the 6th full course yellow. Thornton passed for the lead cleanly and then got punted by Bavaro/Price.
GOTO worked up to 5th and now under yellow is in 4th. Dunno if they swapped drivers / pitted yet. 45 minutes of racing left.

Jeesus, another punt fest. I have a feeling GrandAm will have to institute some serious penalties, as you have hack drivers coming in and punting people resulting in more laps under yellow the green. VIR was 12 laps under green! ridiculous.

Hello,
Since the pit, the GOTO guys have been walking through the pack, working their way back up the field. Current best lap is a 1:43.9, but it seems like every lap, they grab another position. There's 30 minutes left, they're in 9th place, and they're flying through the field. GO LOCKS!

Hello,
Another yellow... BUT, the good news is that the Locks were getting close to passing to 8th place, and then there was a 7 second gap to 7th and a 4 second gap to 6th. Those gaps should close up, so the Locks will be much closer to the front action.
WOOHOO!
Joel, hoping there will be enough green laps...

Hello,
It's sunny here in San Francisco, and I haven't heard anything about rain...
Dang, the Locks are keeping a half second behind #92, but #92 is lagging almost 4 seconds back. That sucks... they're going back to green probably this coming lap. Better close the gap!

You mean, the first hour of the race
68 cars (starting) at Laguna Seca is just too much. And then the safety car bunches everyone up, and they were all going off on cold tires causing another safety car before 1 lap completed under green...
Still, it was fun to be at the race.

Were can we pick up more speed against the RX8's and RSX's ? The legacy is much more balanced than the impreza. How did you enjoy the race BrianZ? Make sure you have some more ribs ready for my next visit out west !

Wow, what a weekend. Chris will have our official press release up soon, but I had to say that it is great to come back from a weekend I have only dreamed of until now, and see the kind of support that you guys are showing on the forums. I am also really glad that we did not disapoint after so much anticipation for our Grand Am debut.
My favorite moment of the race (only slightely behind crossing the finish line in 6'th) was about 10 minutes into my stint when I passed the 70 Mazda on the outside of turn two. On the next yellow I realized that I had passed the factory Mazda with Trimbley behind the wheel, and that is a fealing that I will not soon forget. More race recap to come soon...
I can't wait for Phoenix!!!
