I posted about this a couple months ago, there is some guy who does custom vinyls that offered to do this for me. I want the damn subaru logo in black and another color, maybe white

My car has SPT decals on it....it would be a nice match if I could get the SPT logo.

I saw a "GC" (looked just like the 02-04 steering wheel?) steering wheel on ebay a couple of weeks ago that had a silver Momo center that would be an exact match for the Momo shift knob- can't justify buying a steering wheel- would replace the center cap if feasible though :)
| PJLFC | 02-05-2006 04:52 PM |
would keep the momo emblem

I' like to have this wheel, but barring that- the emblem :)
Thanks to Hank3 for the idea :D
1. Get your favourite logo done up in vinyl, sized to the diameter of your steering wheel badge.

2. Apply the vinyl using a soapy water solution (much like how windshield banners are applied). This way, you can take your time to get it exactly centered, exactly horizontal, and get almost zero air bubbles.

3. Slowly and carefully, work the soapy solution out from under the badge using a hair-dryer (set on low heat) to speed up the drying process. Apply pressure from the CENTER of the vinyl OUTWARDS towards the edges to avoid trapping any air bubbles.

4. As the soapy solution works its way out and dries, the vinyl will adhere/cling better. At this point, apply slightly higher heat (use the high heat setting on your hairdryer) to get the badge to conform to the convex shape of the badge. Apply slightly more pressure this time, but again, always work your way from the CENTER of the vinyl OUTWARDS towards the edges to avoid trapping any air bubbles.
As I found out, the stock MOMO is actually "raised". Again, the heat used to conform to the convex shape also helps you to "emboss" the MOMO raised lettering very tightly.

5. Wait for the soap solution to fully evaporate, and remove the vinyl decal's clear transfer overlay. Clean it up and shine it up using some wax, and you're done! Here you can see the "embossed" MOMO that results. Love it or hate it, I think it's kind of a cool effect  - and only noticeable upon close-up inspection.

Tada! now get a matching shift knob and you're done!

cheers!
(again, thanks to Hank3 for the great idea! :alien: )

I don't believe Dendrobium has any left. Try contacting him via PM. He had a local guy in Canada make these for him.

I wonder if it's a oe part that can be had (the STi emblem)- say you accidently dented it/scratched it/otherwise wrecked it- I'd hate to think you'd need a brand new steering wheel, but that could well be the case :(
I guess the emblem would have to be the same size- not sure how they are secured either.

The Momo logo on my WRX wheel is actually metal. I've looked at different websites and it looks like the BEST thing to do would be to go to a trophy making store and ask them to make you a metal emblem. Then you could just pry off your old Momo emblem and place the new metal one on there. Then you can go to an arts and crafts store and get some stationary bumps which are these adhesive-backed plastic round or square pieces of plastic to cover the metal. It would be similar to the shift stickers people have been puting on their center consoles.
I looked at my WRX airbag and you have to pretty much disassemble the airbag and remove some rivets to get to the back of the emblem. Not sure if it is adhesived on there or screwed on there.
Anyway, this is what I did with my STi wheel:

Broadfield's mod. Sanded off the pink.
