Nascar considering to buy WRC part 2

baileypicks24 02-18-2005 07:21 PM

[QUOTE=Paisan]I'd like to see NASCAR buy the series and promote it, but keep it relatively intact. NASCAR, even though most of us dislike the type of racing (left turn, left turn, left turn, etc) you have to admit one thing about NASCAR, they have a Heck of a good marketing and promotions department, and that is what brings in sponsor money, and sponsor money is what makes the sport more likely to grow and suceed.

wow wow wow.
FIA WRC is probably on its last legs. if Pug/Citroen go thru with leaving after this season, and FIA tries to institute teh I4 engine requirement, subaru will leave as well. so how rally motorsports is played out on a international level is certainly murky for teh rest of the decade.

as for F1 on the Glen, they run IRL on tracks as well. WRC on american tarmac...eh, maybe a host site, and it handles the superstages, and the rest are carried out in the surrounding area.

I doubt NASCAR would make teh attempt for it, they already have teh midgets and trucks series on dirt, so why crowd ur own minor divisions, with non american makes nonetheless?

i hope RallyAmerica does well this year to keep itself afloat for a couple more years. but i don't see NASCAR getting involved in something that will be a near certain loss leader.

Not for nothing, but rallying isn't what it used to be. For people to get involved, you need cars to be passionate about. Subaru, as well as Ford, is one of the only that offers something closely resembling it's cars sold here in the states. Further, listening to restricted, buzzy, 4 cylinder motors(minus Subaru of course) isn't to everyone's liking either. We need to head back to the glory days of the late 70's and early 80's with cars that have TONS of CHARACTER.

I would support that decision as long as they dont greatly modify the sport. The owners of NASCAR have a huge budget and promotion engine. It would be great to see rally sport grow

I am not a fan of NASCAR and a relative newbie to the WRC (only 3 years). When I read the thread title it seemed like a great idea to me. After reading the posts I understand the purists, but imagine the coverage with NASCAR money. It would only make sense to keep all the traditional Rallies and with the influx of money, the TV coverage would probably be 10x better. Not saying it is bad now but it could always be improved.

Maybe NASCAR wants to use the WRC to advertise its US product to the rest of the world.
