People don't like my seats

I have been told numerous times by my friends that the front passenger seat in my '98 GT Wagon is uncomfortable. I'd gladly buy and swap another seat in, but I don't want it to not match the rest of the interior, and I don't want to swap the entire interior.
Suggestions, or ideas, for more comfortable front seats? I'd almost be up for buying a matching set of seats from another subaru and have them reupholstered to match the originals, for example, buy 2006 Legacy 2.5GT seats and then have the outer leather/fabric removed and have similar shape/textured fabric put on, so they look original. This way I can swap the front seats and keep my rear fold down seats, and not have it look weird.
I drive very calmly and relaxed most of the time, other times I go up in the hills (responsibly), it gets bumpy up there. I also tend to go faster around turns, and there are a lot of twisty roads here, so something more STi-like would probably be best.
Ideas, suggestions, thoughts?

02-03 wrx seats ftw cheap and comfy

Thanks, I'll look for a pair local.

what color is your interior? 04/05 wrx seats are a HUGE improvement over 02/03's. They're more of a bucket-shape, with integrated non-adjustable headrests. They're also a classier solid black mesh texture, instead of the 02/03's crazy pattern it had in the center of the seat.
| JC | 12-16-2006 06:02 PM |
JDM STi. All the US seats suck, but the 02-03 are the best. If you are going to buy seats don't half ass it. Also the mounting for the newer seats will probably raise the seat height.

Have you ever sat in 02-03 seats? they dont look as good as 04+ but they are 100X more comfortable. My brother has an 05 wrx and my buddy with an 04 sti both freak out when they sit in my car. 04+ seats are way too hard and way too wide. If you want comfort 02-03 are the best seats the wrx has had.

Yep, ridden in both, and driven both. I like the 04's a LOT better. But anything Sti would be more supportive than any WRX seat.

05 WRX seat SUCK!!!! If they didn't have the airbags in them I would have dropped a ton of cash to get some JDM V9 Spec C seats in there. So much more comfortable than the crap I have now.

STi seats suck suck suck. They don't hold you for crap, the only good thing about them is the suede and the look. the WRX seats hold you much better than the STi seats, weird huh?!
If you want just comfortable seats go get the STi ones, they aren't very bucket at all.

I agree the 02 seats are the best.
DON'T get the '05 up LGT seats. They are uncomfortable and HEAVY. I took out the passenger seat to install the security module, and that bugger weighs like three times as much as the WRX seats. Maybe more. Really.

The 02-03 seats are definitely tighter than the 04+ seats. I've had a bugeye and an STi and the bugeye seats were definitely tighter. I have JDM v8s now, and they hold you in as well as the bugeyes, but are stiffer.

I know it's been covered, but this is just not true at all. The 02/03 seats are the most supportive seats that have been offered in the USDM, period. The newer seats are wider, less supportive, and less comfortable. Now, if you are a large (wide) person, maybe I can see where you're coming from. However, the average person who is looking for comfort, not looks, will want to get the bugeye seats....

I agree with what most of the folks in here are saying. I have an 04 and ended up selling my interior to fund part of my JDM interior swap. For awhile, I was borrowing 02-03 WRX seats and they pwned the 04+ USDM seats.
Still, nothing compares to the JDM seats I have now :)
