Petter: Meet the Great Barrier Rock! Rally Australia Starts Friday! part 2

Loeb wins the championship, and Ligato/Beltrana/Pozzo were slapped by the FIA.
Following the final Stewards' meeting of Telstra Rally Australia, the drivers and co-drivers of the three cars run by Tango Rally Team have been excluded from the event, had their 2006 FIA Production car World Rally Championship points withdrawn and have been suspended from the remainder of the 2006 P-WRC.

The three cars, driven by Marcos Ligato, Sebastian Beltran and Gabriel Pozzo were inspected by the FIA Technical Delegate, who submitted a report to the Stewards regarding the turbo inlet air restrictor on each car.

A decision issued by the FIA Stewards of the meeting states: "After due deliberation, the stewards conclude that the car of Competitor No. 32 Entrant and Driver Marcos Ligato, Co-driver Ruben Garcia does not conform to FIA Appendix J Art. 254 Paragraph 6.1 as all the air necessary for feeding the engine does not pass through the restrictor."

The statement also said; "Both crew members apologised to the Stewards and stated that they were not technical people and were ashamed at this happening to them."

Identical statements were issued relating to Gabriel Pozzo and Sebastien Beltran respectively.

The suspension of all three drivers' points does not affect the championship standings above 8th and therefore, will not affect the outcome of the 2006 P-WRC, as it can now only be won by either Nasser Al-Attiyah or Fumio Nutahara.
edit...

Don't get too down onthe Xsara; Sainz did well enough with it, as did Sordo on tarmac events. It also didn't break nearly as much as the competition this year.

That said I'm rooting for Ford to win the manufacturer's title and Stohl to get 4th in the driver's championship.

Slapped is a bit of an understatement...I guess the FIA doesn't screw around with inlet restrictors.

Congratulations to Mikko! He drove a fantastic rally, and his win was well deserved.
Good to see Petter back on the podium too. Hopefully this is the beginning of a turnaround for Subie.

Just watched the Eurosport coverage. Great rally for Mikko! Congratulations on the first career win. I whish he stayed with Subaru a bit longer.
Congrats to Petter for throwing competitive rally without problems. Well deserved 2nd place.

Woo hooo! Just finished watching eurosport coverage (Late to the party as usual)

Go Petter! Go Mikko! Despite the absence of Gronholm and Loeb in the thick of it, it was great to see Petter driving well and pushing Mikko to the end of the rally. And the pgt class covereage was nice to get for once.

What struck me is how many subarus, both wrc and pgt, were on the leaderboard a few times during the rally. It was nice to see blue stars everywhere.

Only have to wait about three weeks for my next fix. NZ baby
