can those V1 instructions be appled to the 8500 x50? Do I need the smartcable thing it came with still be attached if I hardwire it to the dimming mirror, or can I just use the phone line?
step by step instructions with pictures would be appreciated.
Thanks
If you don't have experience doing electrical work or car-specific electrical mods, I'd strongly suggest getting 1) an escort-specific hardwire kit and 2) a $8 Add-A-Circuit fuse connector. This would require NO cutting to the stock system and it could be removed in a matter of minutes. I'll take some pics next week and send them to you if you PM me.

I used to clean my windshield with ArmorAll Glass Wipes, do you think the "protective layer" could have made the suction cups fall off?

i have herd there is a little under 20 percent drop in effectiveness in the cordless escort? you guys agree with that? i work at best buy part time and was just thinking get that so that i can move it around wherever i want and use it other cars too...
I dont really race or speed that often so i guess for me this would suffice....

I have heard that there is a drop in effectiveness, although I didn't hear a percentage to go with it. Is the power cord for the Escort not as user-friendly as the V1? All the V1 needs is a phone cord. I've got mine hardwired in, but to use it in another car, all I need is the cigarette lighter adapter and a length of phone cord.

The Escort "hardwire" kit is nearly the same as that of the V1. The "smartcord" kit simply adds a remote display/mute button and wires in just as easily with a similar phone cord connector. The electrical install details are nearly identical... power cord to a live power connection, ground cord to a ground point.
And yes, the wipes may have put a layer on your windshied that makes it hard for the suction cups to stick. You may also want to try the visor clip holder that escort sells (about $4).

I saw a thread onetime I thought either on NASIOC or ScoobyMods with a how-to on installing the SmartCord mute button and LEDs into one of the switch blanks by the foglight switch. Of course, now that I've got an Escort I can't find the thread. Has anyone else seen this and happen to know where it went?
sounds nice, but my case is different because i have the escort 8500 with the smart cord, and i don't want to give up the extra mute button and status lights. so i think i'm going to use a switchable power line by the fuse box, and then put the must button and display leds in one of the blanks next to the foglight switch, then run the cord up the apillar to the top and hook it up there. do you know if i would be able to run the wire inside the celing liner?
There is also a thread about putting the remote display in the center console, which I think i'm going down this idea with my 8500.

Ludecrous, do you remember where you saw that thread? That sounds like another good idea. Was it to install in one of the blanks where the heated seat switches would go?
