Roof vent on a wagon?

Has this been done? Searched a bit, but didn't find anything. I've got an '05 wagon, and was contemplating a roof vent for the summer months.

I am wondering the same thing. Does the Spec C roof vent work on the wagons as well?

Not sure if anyone has tried, because I thought the wagon had a support beam that ran right where the vent would fit. I would recommend finding someone who did the roof rail removal mod. Hopefully they would have pictures or at least be able to tell you what is under the headliner.

Bump!!!! I want to put one on my wagon.....
To SubieGal.. I know almost nothing about your rally car but I assume it is gutted, can you tell us if the beam is there???.....or any other input

there's a beam. it's not a huuuge deal. I have a sunroof in my car, no adverse effects that i can really feel.
| veightkiller | 12-26-2005 03:21 PM |
it possible..without major mod.

I dont think it would be too terribly hard to install a roof vent
the only reason i dont have one?
i kept my AC and use it when racing

I have a roof vent(not a wagon), but it should work from that pic. It looks exactly the same as the Sedan version.
| Blk_on_Blk_Wgn | 12-27-2005 07:51 AM |
I was also thinking I could just set it back a little farther on the roof..don't know yet going to have to get one and try to make it work..
ps thank you SubieGal

you might as well throw a lil sound deadening on since you'll have the headliner off.
iirc it's advised you don't have the vent open after you hit 55mph. someone please correct me if i'm wrong. i love the vent but it's jus not practical for me since i do so much freeway driving.

weight is not an issue when you don't race. plus i've already switched my front bumper beam w/the lighter jdm one. i'll also be takin off my roof rails.

Right..the pics are to show the placement of the beam accross the roof(Blue is a wagon...Yellow is a sedan) and to ask how to get the map light bracket off.

Spec C Roof Vent DOES fit the WRX Wagon....

The Spec C roof vent WILL fit the wagon WITH some modding. The support brace isn't a factor...the metal map light bracket and the headliner are, however.
The maplight bracket needed to be removed so the vent's metal bracket could be installed properly. Some sedan people have been able to leave it and some have needed to remove it. Don't know why.
The headliner proved to be the biggest problem in that once reinstalled, the factory hole cut for the map light is visible and the new plastic vent surround doesn't quite cover it...maybe 5/8" exposed..maybe. It's tiny. We just made a patch panel and used some of the excess headliner cloth to patch it up. So, there is a visible seam near the plastic vent surround. We tried pushing the headliner as far as we could, but in the end, we couldn't effectively cover the factory cuts.
Not the prettiest damn thing ever, but I am planning to recover the headliner in Alcantara, so the headliner issue is just temporary.
The vent itself is functionally....cool as hell!
Sorry for the filthy car pics...

i know its been asked before but how well does the vent work? if it works well id love to get one and have it as an option with some open windows for driving without an AC during the hot texas summer and what not...and yea it does look really sweet too.
| 280hpwrx | 03-02-2006 05:53 PM |
I'm in Anaheim right now, so the weather is still a bit cool. It really does bring in a lot of fresh air and not nearly the same noise as lowering the driver's windows. I expect this to be a great option in the Tucson heat. I really do not like using the AC.
Keep in mind, that I haven't gone through a summer yet with the vent installed.
Mass "cool" points though....

Update on wagon roof vent

After some nasty heat, long highway roads, and south AZ storms in just a couple of weeks....the roof vent worked flawlessly.
No leaks...especially when I turned the vent rubber seal right side up. It was upside down...of course. Some of the writeups you see have it upside down. When corrected, there is no noise when closed, and you have a very good seal with the lid.
It sucks in a fair amount of fresh air. Better than the windows. Always gets funny looks from other drivers. Got a couple of smiles and thumbs up from a couple of WRXs.
Highway speeds of 80mph yielded no issues. That 55mph everyone hears about is really directed towards opening and closing; you'll want to be going slow then.
It's worth the hassle to install one. For those in the LA/OC area, I'll be in Anaheim area tomorrow late PM for those who want to see it. It's no big deal really, but I guess roof vents on wagons is something of an urban myth.
