its the spec c roof vent
Yep, Spec C vent...

There were a couple of people on this board, that have it installed. Search and probably you'll find something.

i saw the entire setup on Ebay genuine subaru parts. but you still get to cut a hole in your roof

i think rallispec.com can get them. they dont have them on the site but i've heard a few people say that's where they got them.
jimbobrand 10-24-2004 08:21 PM

I've been trying to locate these for a while (I hate AC in the car) everyone who has the vent on their car says RalliSpec can order them for $380 but call them as they suck at responding to email. Also email some of the vendors that part out JDM cars, you could maybe get them cheaper than $380 (but you may have to paint to match). Hope this helps others who are looking to do this.

The S202 roof vents is the same as those that came to the Spec Cs and also the Type RAs. I waited the longest time for them and tried ordering them from several vendors. In the end, I got mine from RalliSpec. They were the cheapest though I had to wait for a while. They come in Black, White and Blue ... and all other hardwares to install it professionally. The only thing is how to cut the hole professionally.

You can get them from Japan. Just have to know the right people. I got one a couple years ago for a friend here in salt lake for $325 if I remember correctly.
Bumble Bee 03 10-24-2004 09:51 PM

You can do it yourself if you have the guts to ... it really isn't that difficult. But you need to have the correct tools. I got mine done at around USD 300 ... and I thought it to be really pricey ...

Primitive has it
If you go most of the way down the page, you should see it there.

In those pictures about, where did you get the roof scoop and how is it attached? I was thinking about doing that and after reading this section, just may start looking for that vent also.
Bumble Bee 03 10-25-2004 05:55 PM

just looked on Japanparts page but I didnt find nuttin.....
Trunk_Monkey 10-25-2004 05:58 PM

Heres the link to the vendor. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=635598
Subie Gal 10-25-2004 06:00 PM

you must cut the roof in order to install the roof vent

it doesnt "attach' per se - but is installed / fabricated into place
iv30 10-25-2004 07:26 PM
just looked on Japanparts page but I didnt find nuttin.....
Actually bought from them on one of there ebay auctions. Heres a listing of there current stuff http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQgotopageZ1QQsassZjdmpartsjdmQQsorecordsperpageZ25QQsosortorderZ1QQsosortpropertyZ1

maybe you cantact them trough there and ask if they can get you one

It isn't on the top of my list but it will be eventually is there a big increase in airflow through the cabin?

Drew
thetikler1 10-25-2004 09:07 PM

yea most definantly big increase, you have air being rammed in there. imagine how much air goes into the hood scoop and it is somewhat similar. i will be looking for this, when i find it i will post up.

that doesnt look like the flat one pictured at the begining, if you look closely it looks like it is a good 3 or 4 inches above the roof (which pretty much makes me need this:
)

i just want a sleek looking roof scoop that if i lay down, no one will notice.
Lachlan 10-25-2004 09:35 PM

Are you sure that doesn't sink down into the roof? I don't know, it just seems silly that the whole thing would sit on top like you're saying.
thetikler1 10-25-2004 09:37 PM

yea i know, i'm just going by the pictures... what do you think? i don't want to buy it and then realize it isn't the right one
rabbitnutz 10-25-2004 10:16 PM

that 's the subaru one all right, and if i figured this out correctly, it mounts fron the "inside out" which is why it's so thick.
5spdfrk 10-25-2004 10:22 PM

That is sweet, but cutting a hole in the roof is very scary!
iv30 10-25-2004 10:27 PM

Actually no its not the current Subaru one, its one that Primitive had custom built. The one that I have in my pic is the real one that is a Subaru part numbers on it, heres a pic from the inside which is included in the kit. The kit does include everything needed to install it including a mounting frame that you dont see that holds the whole vent between the headliner and the roof. Here its is on my Spec C

thats exactly what i want, very cool, very factory looking. Did you replace your map lights? or do you just not have them? wow that looks so freaking cool. i'm doing it.
iv30 10-25-2004 11:04 PM

You longer have the map lights, never used them anyways.
WRX8XB 10-26-2004 12:30 AM

yea that is nice, that will happen the same time my power folding mirrors happen

cirrus did you do the cutting yourself? was it hard and what did you cut it with?
CirrusWRX 10-26-2004 02:06 PM
cirrus did you do the cutting yourself? was it hard and what did you cut it with?
Yep - scissors while blindfolded :D

Actually, I measued about elevenbillionty times, cut pilot holes from the bottom to match the template on the top. Used a boring old crapsman saber saw with a metal cutting blade. Blade was like $6.00 for 2 at sears or something. Just cut along the template, but you have almost 1/4" for error because the gasket that seals the hole is pretty beefy. So you don't have to make a perfect, or even smooth cut.

Install is not "hard" per se, but definitely involved since you have to take off the headliner and cut a friggin hole in the roof! :)
mindchatter 10-26-2004 02:23 PM

I've been wanting one of these since I got my STi......sadly, the timing doesn't fit for me at present, but I'm hoping soon. Nice ride BTW Cirrus....

WRX Ver.7 10-26-2004 02:35 PM

Here is a couple pics of mine. I used the Primative vent piece and the STi roof scoop. I also used the Prodrive carbon fiber interior vent piece.
thetikler1 10-26-2004 03:19 PM

wwhat does the carbon fiber interior vent look like? and i the thing i don't want is that giant scoop, (well if my color was WRB or black then maybe).
WRX8XB 10-26-2004 06:41 PM

that looks damn good, i want one. anyone want to buy me one?

anyone?

Drew
broom_dude 10-26-2004 10:56 PM

thetikler1 10-26-2004 11:23 PM

i would try PMing Subaruxtra.com you might get an answer faster.
broom_dude 10-26-2004 11:38 PM

PM sent!

anybody know where to get the STi roof scoop (not the vent) at a lower price?
$500...is a lot... :(

Will the subaru vent fits inside the primitive scoop?
97JT 10-27-2004 12:25 AM

Roof scoop
Primitive racing sells the roof scoop, the guys name is Paul Ekuland he is a racer out of portland Oregon but the sithe is primitiveracing .com or somthing close to that.
thetikler1 10-27-2004 12:52 AM

http://www.writerguy.com/primitive/body.htm sells this one

for only 109 and they sell another style of roof vent (doesn't look as clean as the one above though so you probably would have to buy the roof scoop itself)
subaruxtra.com 10-27-2004 08:20 AM

broom_dude: you have a pm

we are working on getting the scoops for less than $500.00 I will keep you all posted on the scoops.
Order is going in tomorrow let me know if there is any sti part you may need we can get it for you.

leeden 10-27-2004 07:35 PM

I'm curious, how is the scoop attached? Is it welded to the body or somehow connect to the vent?
Dreammaster2.5RS 10-27-2004 08:10 PM

Im curious about the same thing....
jimbobrand 10-27-2004 09:22 PM

The flap is attached to a hinge that is bolted to a bracket which replaces the bracket your maplights were bolted to. Hope this isn't too confusing.
-Jim
WickedSTI 10-27-2004 10:42 PM

I have wanted a roof scoop for a while like the OEM one in pi.Any chance of a group buy?Brad
CirrusWRX 10-28-2004 09:26 AM

the roof SCOOP is entirely seperate from the roof VENT. The vent, as was described by jimbobrand is entirely accurate.

The SCOOP, however, has two metal cross braces that run through the inside. The vent conveniently opens RIGHT BETWEEN the two braces. Those two braces have holes in them where you can run 4 bolts through it. So, basically, you just drill 4 MORE bolts through the roof and bolt the roof scoop from the outside to the inside as such.
Dreammaster2.5RS 11-04-2004 05:38 PM
The flap is attached to a hinge that is bolted to a bracket which replaces the bracket your maplights were bolted to. Hope this isn't too confusing.
-Jim
What if I dont have the map lights, is that bracket still there to attach the roof scoop to.
jimbobrand 11-04-2004 08:35 PM

All I can say about my post above is I really need to get more than 30 min. of sleep before answering questions on here in the morning. The roof vent kit comes with the bracket you need for the roof vent (if you dont have the maplights then you dont have to do as much work, unless the maplight bracket is hiding under the headliner which if this is the case just grind off two spotwelds and remove the two bolts that hold it in place) and the new bracket bolts into two threaded holes in the roof. I hope this answers your question.
-Jim
Also for those who are looking to do this mod there are a couple how-to posts on here and ScoobyMods.com that explain this in more detail
Jumpy 11-05-2004 04:33 AM

With a hole in the roof, (such as with this roof scoop) is the rigidity compromised?
