gtguy -
Yeah, the reason I asked about the UK coverage is because the Speed coverage is clearly produced (at least initially) by the same company that did the previous Speedvision coverage. Sounds like they just struck a deal to get the footage without the voice-over, and they re-edited portions to their liking. In general, I think it's a good idea. As much as Ralf annoys me sometimes, I think it's good to have a familiar voice over the footage - and I appreciate Ralf's apparent enthusiasm for the sport.
As for wives watching along... My fiancee usually watches with me unless she's really tired - she usually misses Sunday night. She asked a lot of question for a while when she was getting into it, and now she pretty much knows who everyone is, who the teams are, etc. She's extremely, er... "understanding" about how much I get into it. :D She "gets" the whole Subaru thing - she bemoans the loss of the Forester (which I traded for the WRX) but misses driving the WRX now that she's got her own Toyota now (hand-me-down Corolla).

I for one like the late night showings and the repeated re-edited replays. There is a better solution out there. Maybe like reducing the number of rebroadcasts, while adding a completely edited for mass viewers time slot. Doing away with same day coverage takes away from the excitement a bit. Nobody likes being the last to know. Who cares if this was originally made public months ago. (The last to know feeling:( ) Let's pepper the hell out of them with signatures and e-mail:devil:

Well, since tonight marks its debut, we'll just see how this year's coverage is compared to last year's. I'm just glad that it's on at all, personally, and fear that trying to get anyone other than Speed to carry it might be tough. OLN might dedicate the time, but I think that a money minded network like ESPN2 or the like would have a harder time carrying much more than a monthly recap.
gtguy: The Tour coverage is fantastic, IMHO. It's great to see the end of the race develop, especially in the mountain stages. It gives those of us that know a little about racing tactics an opportunity to educate those that don't know anything about them. I'm glad it's there and look forward to their coverage of all three of the Major Tours.

So what kind of Cannondale are you riding, C-daleRidr? I'm a Trek OCLV man myself, though I just picked up an Allez E5 Comp for a commuter bike.
I agree that the mountain stages are exciting, but the flat stages...take a break and return for the sprint finish, IMHO.
I agree with you about the WRC stuff. My Replay TV box is chuffing away right now. There was also a really good show on this afternoon, about '70s F1 drivers and their cars that I will watch to whet my appetite for the WRC stuff. :D

(Totally off-topic - gtguy, C-daleRdr: did you guys see that Cannondale just filed Chapter 11?)

Yup, the motorcycle-x project they had just killed 'em. The bike was good by all accounts, but entering a market with established colossi, and trying to do it all yourself is a recipe for heartache.

Getting back on topic... :p
I've watched about half of the coverage so far (recorded it last night), and it's good, but I don't know if it's that much better than last year's that it's worth the week's wait. Ooh... we got to see telemetry from... umm... someone's crash. What a surprise, the rev's dropped to 0 right after the engine stalled after the impact!
So, so far, I'd give up the new stuff for a little timeliness. That way I wouldn't have had the outcome of the rally ruined for me by a series of spoiler-full subjects in various forums. Can the mods start deleting threads with spoiler subjects?
