Street Legal Ice racing! part 2
Is your STi you only car? No winter or second car?
Yes it's my only car. I used to have an extremely fixed up celica. The whole reason I sold it and bought the STi was so I wouldn't have to buy a winter beater. I've seen lots of videos of time trial ice races. Why is it so hard to find one?

It's not, we have dozens of them out here in the Midwest. You're
just in an area that's lightly-populated with ooo-I-might-scratch-my-car wusses, so everyone
there races wheel-to-wheel with AMEC, CNYIRA, and NYSIRA.

You need to move somewhere where people have smaller balls to find a lot of Solo ice
events.

 if you feel like driving out to the Boston way there's a great solo ice racing series out there... but that's a long haul.

There's also going to be a winter autoX in CT in mid-Jan that will hopefully be snow-covered... but that's weather dependent, of course :)

For the record, N.Y.S.I.R.A. has been defunct for four or five years. It takes a lot of commitment to organize and run an ice racing [or any other] organization. When the President of N.Y.S.I.R.A. [and his wife] retired from running the club, none of their members wanted to fill their shoes, so they folded and all joined A.M.E.C. It's always easier to let someone else do it.

There could be winter rallycrosses or ice trials in the Buffalo area. But you can't wait for someone else to make it happen. I must admit though, that it is very difficult to keep a course plowed in western NY, with all of their lake effects snow. :(

turboICE,

How's the 325iX coming along? Are we ready for four wheel drifts yet? :p

What class would a PGT wrx rally car be in?

What about tires? Do they NEED to be snow tires? or can you use M+S tires?
What class would a PGT wrx rally car be in?

I checked out the rules page for SCCA's Production GT class and found two items that they allow, that we do not. They are:

1. The differential(s) may be replaced or modified. Limited-slip, or locked differentials are allowed.

2. Carpets and their associated padding may be removed.

In our weekly regular wheel to wheel races [not to be confused with the "Studs on Ice" event], you must leave all upholstery in place and trim it to go around the roll bar or other safety equiptment.

Locked diffs are definately a no-no.

If your car fits this criteria, and you have winter specific [studded (correct length studs for tires being used) or unstudded] tires, we would be honored to have you come out and kick all of our tails for us. :D

You would be the class of the field.

Well, I have the stock diffs in there, but I don't have any upholstery. :( That's in TX so that's a no go. There are no exceptions :( I'm running M&S tires. ;)

Haha, just so there is no confusion, when i posted, Wagonbeast was sitting here with me. Its his car i was speaking of, not my own.

i wanna move up to the area when i get out of college and or if i feel motivated to driv eup and stay for the event. My car, by the end of spring, will be missing carpet but a spray-in bed liner will be taking its place. can i do time trials and not race head to head or if i am alowed to race head to head, my scores wont count?

However, you could bring it to the annual Studs on Ice time trial event each year. There are very few rules for that.

How're things looking? It's been mighty warm around here the past few days, and doesn't look like it's going to be cooling down anytime soon... :(
