Is the 06 WRX going to be on the same line as the 02-05? If so KC you listed the plan for update/backdate to put in a early WRX for the best of both worlds in ESP assuming the STI/EVO's go to BSP and you can turn up the boost. Better engine, trans, brakes, suspension components on the lighter early models, unless the TR version is close to as light as the early ones. At least as far as 06 vs 05 STi's go all reports so far range from 50-100lbs heavier with very little changes except the front end.
Gearbox can be changed with the motor in SP. I wonder if the ratio's are different.....
Meh, I will fight them off when someone brings one out......
Ahh... true.. UD/BD the '06 components into an '02? :) That'd be nice! Hopefully all the underpinnings are the same and only the front fascia changed.

Yea, its just a reskin like the 04s. Once we wreck the T2 car we'll pick up the 06 front end.

I didn't think the '06 WRX had aluminum A arms ... ?

It does, same as the STI stuff. Updating an 02 WRX to the 06 engine would be like putting an 02 WRX engine into a GC car. The wiring harness is different enough that it's a lot of work. With the throttle body and intake manifold being free in SP, you can just swap to an 02 WRX manifold to get around the drive by wire stuff. You could keep the 02 WRX 5MT which would have a 3.9 final drive versus the 3.7 in the new car. Although it has better uses, like a boat anchor.
I'd think the 06 could be a capable STU car on some courses but if you increase the power in it much more than stock, it's going to be a wheelspin machine with no front LSD and the viscous rear. Of course you can rectify that in ESP for a couple grand.
SCCA site is down at the moment ... what place did you come in ?
Which springs are you using ...
I Love my Flex's, others po-po them ... great for the price ... the new, current issue of Import Racer has a chart from Tein with set-up recommendations for single adjustable struts. They are doing a project with a Civic and Flex's ...next issue they take it to the track with a Tein engineer (Nakai-san?) to set-up the car specifically for that track.

Branden, did your setup change much for 06?
| itmcomputersdotcom | 09-29-2006 03:55 PM |
A little bit, but not much at all really. Yokes instead of 615's, unshaved. I shaved them through autox rather than having somebody do it. Still on the stock rims. We changed to spring rates, but still on the Tein Flex's.

No, we tuned it on 92 pump gas, the rules on fuel are a little hazy, and I didn't want to take any chances on that. As for in-car, I had the mount, but I forgot to bring the camera with me to get video, sorry. I was upset that I forgot, I was too focussed on too many other things at the same time to remember the camera too. I have footage from other local events out there, but not Nats, sorry.

How are the unshaved Yoks? Are they pretty squirmy until you have quiet a few runs on them?
I haven't run on Yoks at all yet, but I would be interested in knowing.

Branden ... I'm a big fan of the Flex's ... although they are drooped limited. I was running 12K/10K in my WRX, re-valved and "optimized" for rebound. May I ask you what spring rates you were running.
The new Mono Flex's should be quite nice ... due out soon.

I'm reading the understeer section and it confuses me.
1. on street tires when I have an understeer problem I let air out of the rear tires
2. stiffen the dampers? bump or rebound? This seems backwards too. Isn't this going to increase the damper induced weight transfer and throw the balance further towards understeer?
Is my dislexia flaring up again?

Yes and no. Increasing stiffness in the front has typically been unproedictable for me. If I am set up stiff and increase stiffness it usually decreases bite. On bumpy tracks, I will start from a softer dampening start point and as I stiffen I will start getting more bite at apex but not on initial turn in. Crazy huh
| Mykl | 10-05-2006 04:49 PM |
That's interesting.... I think I'll play with my bump settings a bit this weekend and see what effect they have. Lately I've only been using just enough bump to keep the car settled over bumps and just enough rebound to control the rate in which it reaches maximum roll angle. So the front and rear settings have been the same.
At my last autocross I wasn't getting the rotation I would like, but the front of the car is .25-.5 inches too high and the rear is where it needs to be. After that adjustment I'll run it, and then maybe decrease the bump up front and see what happens.
