While this is still not official, the following statement from Mark Sipe on sccaforums.com looks like the most reliable I've seen so far: "A tech bulletin should be issued soon in FasTrack that re-states the inlet of single replacement converter must be located no further rearward than 6" along the piping flowpath from the exit of the last OE converter."

If I read this correctly, it would make all of the common cat locations legal.

No, it means that the last converter is the one that must stay.

Not happy at all.

It seems perfect to me!

What does 'last' mean?

This rule has gone from 'Any' to 'Primary' to 'Last' in less than a year.

The last two iterations of them (if the rumor from Sipe is to be believed.... ;) ) have not gone out for member comment as for a rule CHANGE from the original appearance of the approved rule that was agreed to by member comment.

"last" according to dictionary.com means "Being, coming, or placed after all others" or "At the end" To me that would mean the 3rd or the "last" cat.

So according to this rule, the start of the replacement cat must begin no further then 6" after the 3rd or "last" cat on the car. No further meaning it can be placed anywhere before it as well.

This seems like a great rule to me.

What that the sound of the light coming on above your head? [/B][/QUOTE]Yep. :D It's really loud sometimes because it takes much more pressure for it to escape this thick head.

So basically if you have installed a hi-flow cat somewhere between the down pipe and in the general location (6") of the last your good to go.

I think this is great news. It covers the most possible exhaust configurations commonly found on new cars in street touring.

KC,

What they are saying is you have to keep 1 hi-flow cat in the "normal" position. for the WRX that means it can be in the DP, mid section, or within 6" past normal location of the rear most CAT. This explicitly prevents the exlploitation of the rules by substituting the CAT for the muffler or resonator and calling it legal.
