Subaru All-Weather Floormats SUCK! part 1

Jag32 06-29-2006 03:17 PM

Subaru All-Weather Floormats SUCK!
I bought a set of Subaru all-weather floormats yesterday from my dealer and they absolutely suck. It's not that they're bad floormats, but what the hell was Subaru thinking when they made the all-weather floormats significantly smaller than the stock carpet floormats? On the passenger side, the allweather mats are not long enough to go from the very bottom fo the seating area all the way to the top of that little "ramp" where the passengers feet can rest on at an angle, and as a result you just have the bare carpet there and no floormats covering it. The mats are also much narrower than the stock carpet mats and as a result carpet is exposed where you don't want it to be.

So as it stands, on the passenger side I have the allweather floormats on top of the stock carpet floormats to prevent the actual carpet in the car from being exposed to passengers' feet who don't know any better, and on the drivers side I just have the allweather mat because it just doesn't feel right with the allweather mat on top of the regular mat.

Would it have been so difficult for Subaru to have just made the allweather mats the same size as the stock carpet mats?
Team optimum#5 06-29-2006 03:27 PM

I have the same problem :(
03Indigo 06-29-2006 03:33 PM

I also hate them. In my outback XT, they're a perfect fit...why so different on this model?

I am half tempted to hit Auto Zone for some after market ones...ones that will also stay in place.

I had the all weather mats in my wrx wagon for about two years.

In the first few months, I wore a heel hole near the accelerator, all the little nubs rubbed off the bottom, and the thing never stayed in position and got caught up under the clutch and brake. Come winter time, the rubber they aremade of froze and was hard as a rock. If it warmed up from the heater and was out of position, when you came back to the car next, it would have froze in the position and all curled up.

Even el cheapo wal-mart mats are better than these.
Uncle Ben 06-29-2006 04:15 PM

Agreed, I tossed mine after the hole wore under the heel in the clutch position. What garbage, I'd rather just keep buying nice cloth floormats that look decent every couple of years.
Tang 06 i wagon 06-29-2006 04:33 PM

Garbage indeed. The only ones worth having are the BACK floormats, as they are rectangluar and sit on a flat rectangular surface...

They don't stay in place, they dont lay flat... I'm sorry i ever bought them.
riSTI 06-29-2006 04:37 PM

I concur...worst mats eva!
ghibli99 06-29-2006 04:39 PM

I wish they'd make 'bowl' style ones like the optional rubbery trunk liner for the wagons that fit the foot areas like a glove. I have all-weather mats for mine, and they were useful during the rainy season. However, since that's only like 1 month out of the year, they stay in storage most of the time anyway, so my problems aren't as exaggerated as those who live in areas that actually experience 4 seasons a year. ;)

No joke, ive almost ordered these a hundred times, just never actually did. I would have at some point though.
ptirmal 06-29-2006 08:30 PM

I actually like mine... sure they're a little small but I keep them on top of the wrx mats, they do a fine job of protecting even the wrx mats and this way they stay in place... I especially like them in the winter and rain, I haven't gotten my wrx mats dirty with the all season mats on top so I don't know how accurate it is to say that the carpet would get dirty...

All in all I didn't pay for them but I would in a heart beat
Rex_Guy 06-29-2006 08:46 PM

+1 for suck ass mats
ease27 06-29-2006 09:07 PM

well good thing i was about to buy these, ill now be going to autozone for the trusty tazmanian devil ruber mats.
Doctor Subie 06-29-2006 09:27 PM

Anyone want to buy my Official Subaru all weather mats?

These mats are like made out of plastic, not rubber...they suk
jay25RS 06-29-2006 09:30 PM

I hated my subaru all weather mats... they cracked along the bottom of the ridges and harbored water underneath of them causing some seriously foul odor problems...

RexisMe 06-29-2006 10:07 PM

mine fit fine, stay in place, seem to be rubber  mine were like 50 bucks though, not 20. They actually saved my butt the other day when the gf spilt half a beer and the mat caught all of it. I was actually impressed by the mats.
02redwagone 06-29-2006 10:14 PM

Mine work great and cover the area effected by foot traffic perfect. They never budge an inch on top of the carpet mats.

Thou mine are serious rubber constructed.
jason.g 06-29-2006 11:12 PM

mine have held up great through one new england winter and counting...for those who hate them - do you live in a snow area and how long did you use them before you had issues?
twizzstyle 06-29-2006 11:21 PM

two words....

HUSKY LINERS Best thing I bought for my car by FAR. $60 for a pair, and WELL worth it. Totally molded to the floor, covers everything (even the dead pedal) and they are indestructable. :)
sha_zapple 06-30-2006 12:54 AM

I went to the local car parts store and bought a set of so-deep-you'll-lose-your-baby floormats. They work damn good
...emu... 06-30-2006 01:52 AM

yeah they are WAY too small in my Wagon too.... :(

Mine also work really well. Did the change the design recently? I have the really thick and heavy rubber ones.
WRXDriftR 06-30-2006 02:12 PM

I wore a heel hole by my accelerator pedal also!!!

I brought them to the dealer to get a replacement since it was less than 1 year old, and the damn woman service director said "Ive never seen this happen before [/skepticism]" and "You mustve cut them or drove with high heels on to make a hole like that!"

I felt like kicking her in the ovary.
She didnt lift a finger to help fix the situation and make stupid accusations about me sabotaging my own floormat so I could get a new one. :furious:
She was butch too
markadopolus 06-30-2006 04:16 PM

Since everyone hates them, who sants to sell me theirs?
ColesSTi 07-01-2006 12:55 AM

I like them its true they need more upper passenger foot resting. The driver side: It's too tall of a mat and can cause problems with the pedal because of its high traction and height but both carpet and rubber came with the car deal. Carpet mats where never used, used most of the time was rubber mats and none what dose that say never put much thought into it.
Dragicon 07-01-2006 01:46 AM
Mine also work really well. Did the change the design recently? I have the really thick and heavy rubber ones.
Exactly the same here, mine are a little small on the passenger side.., but rear and drivers are great, really thick, had them for 3 years and no problem whatsoever, dont even look worn out... i paid something like 60 bucks for mine though.

Right on! Do people ask me where I got the mudd flaps, sti scoop, wagon mafia stickers... NO. its allways "where did you get those floor mats!" :D
coldfire22x 07-01-2006 01:08 PM

i got a set of these for free:

click me!

and they fit quite well. they also boast holding like a gallon of water or something ... but when i lived back on the snowbelt, they kept all the snow/ice/mud from getting to my carpets.

the only exception to fitment was that the drivers side front didn't have a cutout for the gas tank opener, but hey .. who cares ;p

My husky liners (the diamond plating is lame, but you don't care when you see how well they work)

Psybin 07-04-2006 12:53 AM

I got mine last month. Pain in the a$$ to clean, my trick using tire shine to shine them up doesnt work as well. They feel cheap, arent as big as the carpet pads. All in all they get a 3, if they didnt have the Subaru logo they would get a 0. Those husky liners look sexy, if I hadnt already spent $40 I would jump on a set.
J-Chow 07-04-2006 01:09 PM

Is this the thread where I can cuss and fuss about the all-weather floormats?
Had them for 6 months, brand new from subaru dealership.

1) The one in the driver seat moves around and interferes with my pedals.
2) I already have heel holes on the all-weather floormats.
3) The quality of these all-weather floormats spell out "CRAP".

My 2 cents :furious:

Where did you all with the Husky Liners get them? I have searched through Google, and can find tan ones, or grey ones, but I want Black....to match the interior of my '06.

So, if anyone has a link as to where to order the black set from, the help would be appreciated...kinda tired of google dummy links, etc.

Doesn't your driver's side mat have a little hole in it that fits over the little peg under the left front corner of the seat? Mine does. The hole is actually a little snug for the peg. Takes some work to get it on, but once its on the mat doesn't budge.
Danbob 07-05-2006 08:11 PM

had the same thing happen with my Suby ones, so I gave them to a member for helping me out with a sale.

IMO Weathertech/Canon or Husky ftw.

My cloth mat is like that, but not my all weather mats, they are small, and move constantly....Husky Liner FTW.....just can't wait until they get here.
Honest Bob 07-06-2006 05:10 AM

Getting the Huskys to move is a real challenge. Taking them out of the car is nearly like handling a porcupine.

I just picked up the all weather mats from Subaru about a month ago and they have the peg hole. I have no problems at all with them moving around and they match up to the cloth WRX mats almost exactly as far as size. They must have changed the design recently.
jay25RS 07-07-2006 07:26 PM

Most people's plastic pegs that holds the drivers floormat down aren't there anymore. And on the passenger side and in the rear, the mats slide all over anyways.

ScoobyNubieToo! 07-07-2006 08:39 PM

The all weather mats suck major ass. Mine always slide up under the clutch. Why the hell didn't they incorporate a hole for the mat to hook to like the stock cloth mat.

Like I said about 4 posts up, they did. I just bought the all weather mats from Subaru and they have the hole for the peg in them. They also match the size of the carpet WRX mats almost exactly. This is why I think the design has been recently changed.

I don't have anything that clearly shows the mats but I can take some pictures tomorrow. I'm wondering if the people who complain of no hole in the mat aren't being given mats for the wrong model. I looked through a lot of resellers online who sold "Genuine Subaru Floormats" with the Suby logo and all that said they should fit a WRX, but they didn't have the hole.

That would be great if you could do that. I love my WRX and really wanna continue to use the rubber mats to help preserve my carpets but these mats I have now are damn near hazardous!
Hondaslayer 07-08-2006 01:20 PM

It's the first thing I buy for EVERY Subaru I own.

These things grip better than the slippery as **** husky liners.

Fit great

Don't move (when installed correctly, you MUST remove the original mats first)

Protect the carpet just fine
Mirage 07-08-2006 01:30 PM

Which sucky mats are you guys talking about? Do they look like this:

subie4life 07-08-2006 03:39 PM

Yeah, the subaru mats do suck. I never used mine. I use one of them as a mat under my dogs food and water dish!
blokespeed 07-08-2006 04:13 PM

I just bought generic rubber mats and cut around the trunk/fuel flap myself and just run them in the winter!
Dragicon 07-10-2006 06:24 PM

Mine dont suck
Here are my subaru all weather matts, they are by far the best matts i have ever had. I bought them at the suby dealership back in winter 2004, look just like they did then.

yup, those are the ones I have, and they move all around, and don't cover the foot well as well as the carpet ones do. They should just be the same shape as the carpet ones. They were the same in my Outback XT, so why are the Impreza ones different?

Anyway, just got my husky liners today, and now they are in the car....

Sorry, meant to do this yesterday but it completely slipped my mind. And for the record, its not "his" mats, its "her" mats. ;)

Here is the set of all-weather mats I got from the dealership. Note the hole in the lower left corner of the driver's mat.

Here are the all-weather mats next to the stock carpet mats for comparison. The backseats are all but identical as far as size. The passenger side all weathers cover a bit less than the carpet (not a problem for me as my passengers are fairly considerate of my car) and the drivers side actually cover a bit more underneath the seat.

As I've said, I haven't had the problem of them sliding around that others have complained of.
