I missed the first couple days of the Sweden coverage, and then saw this thread before watching the Saturday and Sunday stuff. To be honest, I don't know what the hell you're all talking about. As far as I could tell, the coverage was exactly the same except it was an American voice. I didn't hear any mispronunciations, the guy wasn't talking too loud, etc etc. I went into Saturday's show expecting to hear some ridiculous Hee Haw announcer, but that's not at all what I heard.
As for a commentator needing to live/breathe/sleep rallying in order to do a voice-over, well, I beg to differ. There's a big difference between doing live coverage and doing a voice-over after the fact. It seems everyone agrees he's reading from a script, so what difference does it make whether he knows anything about the sport? Give me a script and I'll be perfectly happy to be commentator for one of them limey cricket matches. ;)
Y'all have fun developing ulcers because the WRC announcer doesn't have a cool European accent. I'll be busy enjoying the show.

thanks Pat Olsen
I can't believe this post has gone on this long with such negative feedback! Personally, I don't think the commentator was that bad..geesh, he's reading the same script that the "British Guy" used. (or close enuf)
It seems like everybody is stuck on this bad commentator thing. Let's just be thankful that we got 5 hours of Rally footage. That was the same amount of coverage my good friends/family in Sweden got..... and it was in Sweden!
I agree with Pat Olsen...while you guys get your panties in a bunch about the bad commentator...I'll enjoy the show:)

Correct Italian pronunciation of Impreza would be ihm-PRAY-za, to get the "T" sound it would need to have two Zs, Imprezza, like pizza.

That commentator is God-awful he should be doing a commentary for lawn mower racing and lawn mower racing ONLY! I've actually stopped watching WRC because of his horrible, loud, boisterous demeanor... I want to puke.
This one goes out to Fox:monkey:

I'm late to the party, but had to thow in my $0.02.
I'm thrilled at the extent of the coverage (thanks to David Richards). I'm also thrilled that SpeedChannel has been replaying the rally numerous time. God knows you had to be pretty lucky to catch a Speedvision replay, or give up your entire New Year's day taping like a madman (I know that describes at least half of us, the other half is trying to figure out how to get the tapes!)
But this Ralph Sheheen guy has got to go. It's not even that he is so bad, because he can read from a script as well as anyone. It's just that last year's announcer was SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD. I especially remember how he handled the call for Colin McRae's crash that took him out of the championship in Great Britan. That was such a fantastic call:
Slience as CM drives like a mad man
hits the rock on the right side of the road, flips
then after the car was sitting on it's roof, he starts in:
"7 minutes into special stage 5, disaster strikes...."
Our buddy Ralph Sheheen would say something like
"hey nascar fans, that looks familiar, huh?"
It's not that you lose anything vital, it's just that a good announcer adds so much more. HOPEFULLY this situation will be changing.

you see that Ralphy Boy is like Speed'smain nascar correspondent now also?after the 500 on SPEED all you could see was Ralph talking about this or that.... On TV hes not too bad talking about hick sports, but he fits WRC about as much as a size 2 dress on a big harley davidson biker... just sickening to think about or see...

WRC isn't a gift
We pay for our cable, it isn't a gift. Some of our money goes to Speedvision where people there make money on us. They are providing a service that we the viewer pay for.
If I go to a restaurant and order steak but get chicken I'm not just happy that I got a meal. I wanted the steak that I'm paying for.
Sooooo, Speedvision, get rid of that chicken Sheheen and give us some steak. And no more of that "I'm just so thankful crap".

moaning about very little
Hey guys,
I just got back from the USA, whilst there i watched the last day coverage of sweden that was taped from speedvision.
Quite frankly i cant see what all the fuss is about. Ralphy boy was reading from the same script that the guys in the UK use. OK, he doesnt have a real grasp for the sport yet and he isnt british but so what? It's obvious the aim is to get more Yanks into the sport, i can see this helping rather than hindering that.
If i happened to move to the USA (god help ya) and had to watch this coverage with ralphy boy comentating i wouldnt be bothered at all, it isnt THAT bad.
