Any info. on when we'll see this look for the producation GDA?

Crikey!
That's one ugly car. The front end has gone from looking distinctive to looking incongruous. It might look a bit better on the wagon, but I doubt it. That road car is even worse, IMHO.
The one nice thing is that with the dual-beam headlamp setup, people will be able to run HIDs if they want, and not lose the highbeams.

I like the new lights. Not the new scoop, though. I wonder if a current STi scoop would fit on the new beast? Maybe these new lights will spark eyelids that cover the lower part of the lights instead of the upper part of the lights?

That do much for the drag co-efficient? It looks like it might although we are still fighting the scoop and wing...
I personally like it a lot. Shouldn't be too bad to convert a MY02 to that right? Just new fenders, hood, headlights, bumper, and grill. :D

John, I noticed that the WRC2003 prototype doesn't have a roof scoop on top. Since they even show it with a Virtual Spectator module, I'd imagine this is how the car will look on-stage. Any idea as to what they're doing for ventilation?

I don't like it. But then again I say that about every new unconventionally styled car at first. I'll like it better once I get used to it. The front bumper looks very unImprezalike though.

There has been a new ventilation system in place since Safari of this year. I believe it pulls air from ducts in the bumper

New look
I am not ready to make my decision yet, but it does look like the RSX headlights kinda. Don't like the scoop. It seems to take away from what makes the current version so different and aggresive looking. I made my decision... I don;t like it.

I think the grill and parts of the bumper look like the sentra SER and I don't like the tail lights and scoop but I also like the way my bug eyed wagon looks, so maybe I'm just crazy.

wow
I never thought I'd say this - but I really like the bugeye!
When the WRX first dropped in the US, I wasn't too thrilled with the look, but it has progressively grown on me...now, I love it! It's so unique - no other car has the look!
I'm glad I got my bugeyes before the MY04! I just got my MY03 on saturday....woo!

I don't think that (for me, anyhow) ownership of a 2002 WRX has anything to do with an assessment of a car's aesthetic failings. The present car had a design harmony that the new one doesn't have, being (essentially) a nose and butt job.
The front end is bulbous, and those new taillight, that echo the headlight design, are hilarity personified. There's also a certain distinctiveness to the current WRX, that I like a lot.
Mind you, I'm just visiting the Impreza family anyhow, until the forced induction Legacy wagon shows up. :D

How much improvement in the WRC can we expect to see with this car next year? The wrc.com writeup makes you think that the changes aren't just cosmetic. Any thoughts?

Given that the WRC car only shares the body and the engine block (more or less)... Impossible to say.

I think I'm losing my mind. I always thought the bug-eye looked good on my OBS, but not on the WRX Sedans. Now, I don't like the cross-eyes at all on the sedan: I liked the bug-eyes better. But I think the crosseyes look better on the TS Wagon pix than the bug-eyes.
I do like the new hood scoop on the Rex though.

However the road car needs an STi lip or something...the bumper looks plain funny and not very aggressive.

OT question
why would WRC works retain the big asss hood scoop if they were so concerned with aero - why bother keeping the scoop?
btw, I think they had too much fun with Porsche/Audi designers when they re-did the front bumper.

I agree with whoever said that the old "new age" car the one which I own is more harmonious in terms of front to rear design. I'll be honest, I don't like the new front end. I don't like the new scoop. I don't like the semi-altezza style tail lights. I don't think the old car looks as good with the reflectors as it does with the Japanese projector housings at all. That is what totally makes the front end of the old car.
The only cars that the high wings look okay on are the GC8 coupe, anywhere else looks like crap. Especially on the new age car.
I'm glad they redesigned, at least I'll have what I consider to be the best looking out of the new/old "new age" cars
I better hurry and buy the STi type 1 front lip and rear carbon spoiler before they quit making them!!!

the new headlights make it look cross-eyed. i like the way it looks from the side, the front end is much lower now. i always wondered why the impreza, from a drivers point of view, had such a high hood when they claim the boxer engine has a lower center of gravity. when you ride in many other imports, hondas etc., you almost can't even see the hood, all you see is road. on this car, all i want to see is scoop, but not as big as the new sti scoop. :)

Interesting look. I don't know, but it doesn't seem to me like the fogs are any smaller. More like the front bumper surrounds are beefier.
The way the hood integrates into the front bumper looks Nissan-ish to me (like on the new Altima or Sentra?).
I like it. :D
But I have to say the "bug-eyed" look has grown on me, and I like that now, too.

I'm agreeing with spike and impreztron, that car does look cross eyed, but it looks better than before so I can deal with another two or three years. The GC8 is still the best looking impreza I have ever seen but looks aren't everything ;) .

I think the new car is absolutely awesome! Of course, I think the bug-eyed WRC car is awesome as well. It looks, to me, very Subaru-like. I wouldn't compare it to anything.
And thank goodness they kept the spoiler! Only spoiler that looks decent on these new Imprezas IMHO.
why would WRC works retain the big asss hood scoop if they were so concerned with aero - why bother keeping the scoop?
I think that would stray a bit too much from the stock WRX look. Even though there are many differences, the hoodscoop has become synonomis with the WRX, so a WRC car used to portray the WRX just wouldn't "feel" right without one. Notice they always use the stock smaller scoop rather then the larger STi piece.
