Although I've been described as a "competent" local driver, I certainly haven't proven myself nationally considering that I choked at my first and only National event. This was not due to the car mind you, but more likely due to the toxic fumes emanating from the surrounding american iron during their many "rev" battles on grid or, quite possibly, the distraction created by the young lady prancing around the aforementioned iron in her high heels and Subaru racing hat. ;)
At least you didn't mention the Bud dress. ;)
So, you're saying that a Subaru's exhaust smells better than a domestic's?
Oh, and for those who pay no attention to anything not-Subaru... Ford Mustangs are most certainly still produced, and are most certainly very competitive in ESP and FS. So, I don't know where you're getting this "no new cars are being produced...." Additionally, the WRX is ESP legal (and no one's trying to get the non-STi WRX out of the class), as is the Pontiac GTO, though no one has set up the latter, and no one had seriously campaigned the former in ESP (well, I did run Hoppe's STX car in ESP at a local event on crusty Kumhos... and won by, what? 1.5 seconds?). Anyway, what about BSP? The two top cars there are no longer in production -- the C4 and the E36 M3? So, how does the top car not being in production factor into whether or not a class should be possibly decimated by the addition of a new car? That shouldn't be part of the equation.
How are the class numbers? Does it need an infusion of competitors? That is an issue with some classes, but not ESP. If the numbers were down, then I might buy the argument that something needs to be put into the class to "perk it up," but it should still be something that is reasonably within the same "formula" as the existing cars. The STi and Evo8 are the Subaru and Mitsubishi answers to the M3, period. Look at the numbers -- not just the horsepower and torque -- but the wheelbase and the track width as well. Those two things are huge issues (no pun intended) when it comes to whether or not the cars "belong" in ESP, just like they were the biggest issues with the M3 being classed there a few years ago.
Anyway, I digress. I didn't want to be sucked into this argument. I blame Cole, GM-traitor that he is. ;)
Oh, and Tom, I'm sorry, I didn't even think about the hat... never having received one before. :( Oscoda, right?
