(oh and sippin Jack while sittin shivering on top of Brockway, watching an older audi go sidewase on the straight after the yump, then he corrected so as not to go off the cliff and went straigt for my friends on the other side, corrected again, over a small (6"dia) tree and back on course)- sorry was too busy to take a photo.

Na, he's not in a rally there. Drivers must have on a suit and gloves. He's probably driving the car to the begining of another stage or something similar.

I'd have to say that the Safari shot of a Toyota Celica emerging from a mudbath defines rally for me. I wasn't able to find a copy of the pic on-line, though.

Oddest pic has to be the Ferrari 308 rally car. :lol:

It's a Porsche 959. It's a commonly misidentified as the 961 rally car. (the 961 was only a race version of the 959 for tracks).

Based off of the 959 it is an all wheel drive twin turbocharged 6 cylinder. Street version topped 205. The rally version pictured here. It was built exclusively for the Paris-Dakar Rally. In 1985 the cars were 959 in apperance but had the traditional 911 Carrera based 3.2 Liter engine. In 1986 with a somewhat detuned 959 engine (only 400 hp instead of 450) it cleaned up the PD rally. Porsche was using it as testing grounds for it's All Wheel Drive.

In 1986 for a mere 200000 you could have bought one but not in the US. Porsche wouldn't let the US DOT crash test a 200000 dollar car so it was never a street legal US automobile. A few have since made it into the country. Road and Track I believe tested it against the new 911 turbo with Danny Sullivan (Indy Car Fame) driving. His response was the 959 was nothing compared to the new turbo.

If any one would like to trade one for an 04 wagon I'm game.
