Who's Going to STPR? part 1

STORER 03-21-2002 11:59 AM

Who's Going TO STPR?

This year I'm finalling going to make STPR! I know a few of the I-Clubers are going to be there. I was wondering where the camp sites are so I can reserve them in advance and hopefully hang out with you. If anyone else from NEOhio wants to go down with me, let me know.

Steve
Robin2 03-21-2002 02:40 PM

You're in a rush!

This event is over 2 months away..... for hotels, it's pretty limited but camping is the way to go......

I've camped the last 2 years and it's been good even with torrential rain last year on Saturday..... just come prepared.....

They usually post on their site camping site and their phone #'s......

My vacation scedual is do Friday, that's why I'm planning ahead. Thanks for the info. Are you doing the TSD rally the day before?

Steve
BRP1 03-22-2002 02:01 AM

Steve,
I am planning on going up STPR. Get in touch with me when the time gets closer and we can work out the details.I know of a few other people that may go that I have already talked to also.

Jon
RS22b 03-22-2002 03:32 AM

Well actually there are a ton of us coming from the Tri-State area.

I have booked hotel rooms for 15 of us so far that are all going to work the rally( the best way to see the rally).

SO look for the stage that is completely controlled by i-club.

Also if anyone is interested we are planning on having a WRC tounament for PS2. SO if you guys want come on over to teh Mansfield Inn about 15 minutes from Wellsboro.

The tournament will be on Friday night as for Saturday night we will all be in the woods watching cars fly by us.:D

We'll be there (there will be four of us). We'll be working tech on friday and spectating all day on Saturday. We'll be heading up thursday night and staying at the Mansfield Inn.
Robin2 03-22-2002 12:02 PM

I doubt I'll do the TSD event cause I always drive up on Friday morning..... and it's about 5-6 hours drive from Ottawa, Canada....

I always go the same campground..... it's 9 miles west of Wellsboro.... it's a good location and the tarmac roads are fun to get there......

RObin
jaybird 03-22-2002 03:59 PM

I was thinking about making it up there this year. I might even see if the wife will go. How difficult is it to work? What is involved in being a sweep vehicle? I'd most likely want to course marshall.

I will be there this year (God willing) I hope it goes better then it has in years past !!! This is a great rally, if you have never been to a ProRally this is the one to go-to its about as good as it gets here in the states.

Any other I-Club's competing this years ?

I hope that the needed rains come or this might be the 2002 S.T.P.R Dust Bowl. " I can't see, I can't see..............."

I'll be caravanning with Robin2 again this year... It was a blast last year; finally got to meet some fellow I-Clubbers!

Here's a link to some of the Canadian contingent:

Any plans for a Saturday meet again?
Robin2 04-23-2002 01:47 PM

How about a Friday evening meet? That would probably be easier since most are pretty busy on Saturday.....

That is a great idea. I couldn't make the dinner break meet last year because we just stayed out in the woods after moving to our next spectator area.
Robin2 04-23-2002 03:35 PM

Especially, if you're trying to go to the night stages (up north).... I was at the water crossing forever!

Robin
tekriter 04-25-2002 08:35 AM

A bunch of us from north of the treeline are staying in Canyon Camground. Robin2, Pilo101, Skeandhu to name a few. Anyone else going out there? I'm going to be there all day friday.
STORER 04-25-2002 11:19 AM

Is there room for one more small tent at any of your camp sites? If not I understand. Can one of you post a link/directions to the campgrounds? Thanks a lot and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you. Is alcohol permitted at the campground? If so, Ill bring Guinnesss fo all:D

Steve
Robin2 04-25-2002 12:36 PM

You're probably renting your own lot cause they charge $10 more an extra tent, $5 for an extra car....etc....

A basic site is $17 per night....

I reserved lot 26 and 26A...

Here's the details of the site:
Canyon Country Campground
Rt 660 West
Wellsboro
(570) 724-3818
http://www.campinpa.com/

For booze, it's all good....... It's a private campground (not a park)....

Here's a example of the site:

Robin
Robin2 04-25-2002 12:39 PM

Here's the directions from Wellsboro:

take 660 West for approx. 9.5 miles till you come to a stop sign at Animaland. At this stop sign go straight. We are up the hill, on the right hand side. Follow signs.

Robin
tekriter 04-25-2002 12:46 PM

Robin2's right. Last year they had tent Nazi's checking for extra cars and ppl. Other than that, it's very friendly. I love the Guiness.:D If everybody brings a little firewood we can have one good fire. Don't forget the folding chairs!
RS22b 04-25-2002 02:04 PM

well we are staying at the Mansfield Inn also.

THats going to be cool almost 20 scoobies in one hotel, man that'll be a site.

WE are also working and doing the TSD on Friday.

See ya when we get there.
I am down for the FRiday night meet in WEllsboro....
post a time and place and we will all be there.

MattDell 04-27-2002 12:25 AM

It's a 5-hour drive, I might go. How do I sign up for the TSD and what day/time is it?
AllTrac 04-27-2002 06:55 PM

Visit the STPR website www.stpr.org and download an entry form for the Charity TSD Rally. While you're there download a rally worker registration form.

The TSD rally runs Friday afternoon (May 31). Registration is usually from about noon to 2:30pm, and Car #1 usually starts the rally at 3:01 pm. The entry form should show this year's schedule. The TSD rally is a blast: 80 miles of nice Pennsylavania dirt roads. This year it benefits the local chapter of the Red Cross. In past years proceeds from the Charity TSD rally have been donated to the local Special Olympics group.

The ProRally starts Saturday morning with a "parc expose" (competitor car line-up) around the town square ("green"). The first car typically starts around 10:30am. The competitors typically run four daylight stages then return to service their cars around the green in mid-afternoon. The evening section typically starts from the green around 4:30 pm, and finishes around 3:00 am Sunday morning.

By volunteering to help with the rally you will get to see some of the behind-the-scenes goings on. You will also likely be able to see cars at speed at locations other than the designated spectator points (which become quite crowded). You will be teamed with an experienced stage crew, the captains of which usually know their way around the woods.

Come prepared to be self-sufficient, and spend a long stretch of time in the woods regardless of weather condions. Rain gear, lawn chairs, food and drink, radio scanners, etc. are nice to have.

Temperatures around Wellsboro in early June can range from the mid 80's down to the mid 40's at night. Roads can be very muddy during and after heavy rain, and very dusty if dry. Fog is not unusual during the late evening stages.
jesse370 04-27-2002 10:33 PM

I learned to drive on those roads and put my ol escort through hell and back doing it<G> I go to that rally every year. Shame I'll still be waiting for my scooby when the rally rolls around. But maybe that is a good thing. I remember seeing a wicked imprezza all done up on at the first spectator point, at the next spectator point the car was there too, Sans bumper and a ton of damage too...

I even saw a true imported escort cossie two years ago parked on the side of the road:eek:
BluSuby 04-28-2002 02:19 AM

I'm heading up either thrusday night or Friday morn. Not sure which place I'm camping at yet. Any help? I know the stoney creek campgroud is nice and it's by the water cross, but I know most of the rally late sat. is near Gaines. I'm within 2.5 hours, so maybe I'll check to see which sites are best, but anyone who's more familiar I need some places to check out,
Thanks,

Bryan

I-clubbers without Subys

Our group will consist of two nearly identical blue VW Golfs and one blue Cavalier Z-24 station wagon (yes, really). At least two of the bunch, one myself, are Impreza owners but we are using the Golfs as sacrificial lambs up there. If you encounter us, please say hello. Where is the Friday night meet going to be held? Would love to stop by and check out your cars.
Layman 04-29-2002 12:36 AM

I'll be there. I'm not sure who I'm dragging along with me yet, but I'll try to work the I-Club stage.

I worked last year and it was a blast. Hopefully the tshirts are better this year. ;)

Go to the bookstore and buy DeLorme's Pennsylvania Gazeteer. It has all the back roads. I also found a neat atlas that is all the county maps in PA. It is pretty good.

Anybody else going to work the " i-club" stag with us?

Just wondering on who is going to be there with us and would like to meet you guys at the Friday night meet out there.

The Friday Night Meet should be in Wellsboro in the big parking lot for the Supermarket.

Say prob around 10PM or so? This way eveyone will get there, nad everyone will have so much energy b/c we are out there, so...

How does that sound to all of you guys.

Hello all this is just made reservations at the Canyon Country Campground for the 31st & the 1st. I wanted just a non-hookup tent site that would hold 2 tents. She told me that she doubt 2 would fit and also they are nearly filled to capacity for tent sites Anyway I ended up getting one with water and electricity. If anyone of you are considering going there, I call quick!

ScoobySport

We will be at STPR as well - Tony Wittridge from ScoobySport in the UK is coming over for the rally as well.

We had heard a rumor of a Subaru meet at Dunkin Donuts on Friday night? Folks also sometimes congregate there after the reseed in the morning but before the afternoon start.

Great advice above on spectating STPR. Don't forget bug spray, jackets and rain gear - and enjoy some of the most gorgeous forest in the US!

Spectating thoughts

A thought for everyone:

We were working to secure a test road for a prominent rally team, quite some distance from STPR. Please note that this was a different forestry district than STPR. The Forestry officials were quite reasonable, but were reluctant to allow even a private test on a closed forestry road. Why?

Concern that the public will think that they can drive that way on the forestry roads. Perhaps also overuse of the roads, etc. etc.

Again, these folks were very reasonable to speak with - but, we will be testing on private property most likely.

Here is my point: With the growth in spectating at rallys, we need to also manage ourselves!

When you are spectating this year, please keep in mind that the rally organizers will need to go to Forestry next year to have the rally, and so on and so on. STPR has been a superb rally for a long time because some excellent organizers have had continued good relations with the local forestry officials.

Let's not jeapordize that -

PLEASE resist the urge to go ripping around on the forest roads. This also goes for the local improved roads as well! I'm a local to this area, and know that while there are lots of folks who like the rally, some may not cotton to having 20 subarus from various states carving up their normally quiet 1 1/2 lane road by their house.

Here is what we ask, to help rallying continue:

1.) DRIVE RESPONSIBLY please

2.) RESPECT THE FOREST - don't litter, and comply with what all the marshals ask you to do. Treat any forestry officials that you see with respect and thank them for the use of the roads.

3.) Treat local people with respect and genuine courtesy. When everyone leaves, the locals should think "boy, those rally folks are great!"

I'd like to suggest a "green ribbon campaign" - everyone who agrees to the three points above (Drive responsibly, respect the forest, treat locals well). would tie a green ribbon to the antenna to show their support. Any takers?

Our $0.02. Lets keep rallying viable as it gets more popular!

Sincerely,
Ken Cole

So have we decided on a place for the meet yet???

I was thinking in the big parking lot of the supermarket. It is right next to the firehouse and some of us that are registered will be there for the party on Friday night.

THere is plenty of parking in the supermarket lot, this way we dont have to worry about space and we have the convenience of being right by the Dn'D and other establishments.

Quentin,

If you're going and want a hotel room, start booking right now cause it'll be hard to find a room......

Camping is the way to go..... lots of sites of close proximity of the rally headquarters..... and it's way cheaper!

Here's the website with all the hotels and campsites.....

I'll be there in either my white 2G Eclipse or a white 2.5rs with the Massachusetts plate "RALLY1" (haven't even bought the car yet).

I'm staying in a hunting cabin in the middle of the woods with like 20 other people. Lots of steaks & beer. Should be an absolute blast!

This'll be my 4th STPR. This is the first one I haven't worked. I wanted a break.

Saturday meet?!?!

As I asked in the Tri-State STPR thread, you guys interested in meeting up Saturday afternoon at the parking lot during the "half-time",since a few of us won't be able to make Friday night?

Not a whole heck of a lot of other things to do after the cars return to town for a few hours. What do ya say?

-Matt
dch 05-21-2002 10:18 PM

Is the "half time" like a two hour dinner break with a parc expose? If so, I'll be hanging out in the service rig trying to keep focused. Those long gaps kinda suck.
