Thanks. I just stopped by the store last night to buy Bondo and dark charcoal paint, now I see this. And I have a white car too! I'm gonna have to think hard about what route I'd like to take, only thing I'd be concerned about is that if I didn't like the wrinkled paint it'd be a pain to sand back down to use something else.
What brand did you use? I used some Duplicolor bedliner paint on another project and it didn't have the texture or yours, I like yours better.

Hi everyone :)
Yes its a little more complicated to clean that wrinkle finish. And it got kinda old.
so I gave that one away and moded another one. This time I used the Rustoleum Textured Paint and I Realllly like the results.
Finish is matte with fine sand like texture. Looks great. And its also great match for interior parts if you want to paint something (I also painted my ATI gauge pod with same paint, perfect match)

Good job on the first and on the second. I'll be doing mine soon.
Now for the bondo question. What are the two materials needed to mix in the bondo? Do I just use bondo itself?

Id say just do the same process with cutting out all the honeycomb. Sand it all right done and put a little bit of bondo on the areas then sand again untill its smooth. For mesh, if you want the same kind of look, id say go buy some chicken wire and just make it so the squares are diagonal instead of right up and down.
I did this last week and turned out great! I used a very light coat of masonry wrinkle paint then sprayed black over it. Awesome mod! I also debadged the rest of the car while I was at it.

Btw, don't forget to paint the center near the hood latch black if your car is not in fact black. Mine is now painted.

Well i did cut out the honeycomb grill. I used an angle grinder and it took it out quick. I sanded and everything. I tried to bondo some of the areas but the hardner made it hard before i could even go abck to it. (i literally stired it, turned aroudnt o do something, came back and it was really hott and really hard). So now my grill housing is full of bondo that isnt drying (no hardner) so tomorrow ill probably clean it all off and sand a little more. Gonna paint it textured black.
007WRX, you havea closeup picture of the wire you used?

when you mix hardner and bondo you dont go anywere and do anything. You need to apply it with in 1-2 minutes as it will dry Really quick ;)

lol i know, i didnt go anywhere. I might have added a little too much hardner. I think what I was doing was turning around to grab a spreader and when i turned around i put a little on the spreader and i tried to applu it to the grill but it didnt come off. It literally got hard within 10 seconds of mixing. Now im stuck becuase id otn have any hardner left lol. :(

Hey guys, im interested in doing the pillarless mod but i have no experience with body filling like bondo. Where can i purchase it and do i really need to buy hardener, and mix it with the bondo? or can i just use bondo on its own.
| Twiztidunreal | 01-03-2008 10:51 PM |
i painted my jdm grill with wrinkle black, looked nice for about 3 months, then after the elements got to it, it looks flat primer black... now i get that "you should paint your grill instead of leaving it primered"
guess it's time to re paint it...

yes you need it, and if u use too much of it, you will end up like the guy in the post above you...
use exactly how much it says and apply it as fast as you can, you can always smooth it while sanding, but you have to get it in place before it hardens...

agreed. the rear i can understand but the front emblem was made as part of the aesthetics of the car for most cars. replace the emblem with a smaller one or a different one but dont remove it.
i would rather have seen a 22B type grill where the emblem is on a pedestal and the top of the pillar is cut out not the bottom. good job all the same i dig.
