well my install is going well. the only problem i am having is trying to make the 3/8" hose from the "boost gauge mod" from scoobymods.com to fit perfect under the a-pillar. other than that no real serious problems. oh man does it look good :) pics to come probably tonight.

i am having a problem with my oil temp gauge, it will not show a reading. anyone have any ideas, i did a search found some info. then couldnt find it again. when i turn the ignition oil pressure gauge functions, and the oil temp needle flickers a little bit and nothing.
i used liquid thread lock on all the fittings for the braided stainless steel line, engine galley fitting and the brass T fittings. the only thing i used teflon tape on is the oil temp sender into the T fitting; do you think this might be the cause, should i remove the teflon tape and use liquid threadlock on this as well instead of the teflon tape?
in the instructions it says to use the teflon sealer, but no mention of not using teflon tape (i was reccomended to use liquid threadlock on the fittings due to the oil pressure sender needing to be grounded, and works very well). the instructions say that oil temp sender should be alreaded grounded when installed so maybe the teflon tape does have something to do with it, hmmmmmm.

Does your oil line from the engine come in through that braided line and the two sensors sit accross from each other on the T?
If so no oil is actually getting to the oil temp sensor that is why it seems to be non-functional. Its just reading ambient.

i cannot believe that an oil filled hose and fittings are not entirely filled with oil due to incredible max pressure of 85-100 psi of oil. i also think that the temp. just under the hood itself (ambient) is definately hotter than 140 degrees F to the gauge would not show a reading. just to be sure i will get a thermometer and put it under the hood, but my fingers already know the answer to that.
i know people have (including myself in my RS Coupe) used a T fitting to get Oil pressure gauge sending units and the stock idiot light sending unit to work correctly.

I'm not saying the T fitting is the issue, I'm saying your trying to get oil to flow up into a dead end if you have both of your sensors mounted in a single T. Best case it will work but your temp readings will be way off due to the simple fact there is no steady stream of oil passing by the sensor.
Of course the pressure sensor will work because the oil is pressurizing the line (and any air that is in the line) but there is no flow due to the dead end thats created by putting one feed line, no return and plugging the outlets with sensors.
There is one very easy way to see if its a ground, get a piece of wire and wrap it around the exposed casing of the sensor and then wrap it around some ground source. If it works, congrats it was the ground (I still think your temp readings would be better taken elsewhere with much more accurate results). If it doesn't then I guess you'll have to consider my position again a bit more carefully...
I hope it is as simple as a ground. BTW, does the sensor have two wires or one coming off it? If its only one then I would start with the ground, if its two then chances are its just a loop resistance sensor and a ground shouldn't do much to help there (if it does help I'd be checking my wiring over a few times and maybe solder up any crimped connections). I've read the best place to get an accurate temp is down in the pan / filter area, since that's where the oil return from the turbo is (hottest oil).
Here's my solution:
Got a PermaCool oil cooler sandwhich adapter for the filter (p/n #186) and drilled it out so the two sides of the adapter were a single galley (I'll take pictures of it during my next oil change if anyone's interested). Installed some 3/8"NPT to 1/8" NPT adapters in it and installed my pressure and temp sensors right there inline with the oil filter. My temp and pressure gauges work great.
The only issues:
I had to cut part of the header heat shield to get it to fit, and I've got a little oil leaking from the temp sensor adapter (I think I did a bad teflon tape job). I might also go with a larger diameter filter (rather than the standard Subaru one) just to make sure the filter seals well, as the normal one's a little narrow.

Well I got half the wires run for my defi unit and noticed I'll be too short on the water temp and exhaust temp sensors to put the control unit where I want it. Next time I'm near a digital camera I'll get some pics, I don't own one anymore thanks to a butter-fingered attempt to keep mine from going into 12" of water :mad: .
I'll try splicing more wire into the sensor line, I just hope it doesn't mess up my readings. I'm not sure what kind of tolerance the defi unit has since it comes with premade wires. The control unit is installed in the pocket on the driver side door, with the power, illum, and gnd being taken from the runs that existed there. I'm still trying to figure out where to hook the "ignition on" wire to. All the wiring fit nicely into the existing rubber "conduit" it was just a trick to get it through without taking more of the car apart. Unless you're looking for it you can't see it, but its an easy reach if I need it.
I should have my autometer triple-gauge pod soon, then I can actually install the gauges and fire the whole thing up. Like I said I'll be sure to put some pictures up in this thread when I'm done and have access to a digital camera.

maybe i missed it in the thread. regarding your center pod, looks like you are using the OEM housing. I believe that is all the comes with it. So, did you buy a faceplate to hold the gauges? if so, where? or was it a Dremel job?

hey justin,
As I mentioned, I used a perma-cool sandwich adapter #186. It's the only one with the correct threading to match the WRX oil filter.
Since the part is actually designed to be for an oil cooler, the oil normally flows down the center, thru the filter, up into the blue side chamber, out thru the cooler, back in to the red side, then up again to the oil return back into the motor.
Now if we're going to put sensors in place of the oil hoses, then there will be no flow, and we'll be forcing the use of the filter bypass, and we'll no longer be filtering the oil! (bad!!) So there's two solutions, either use a short length of hose and some Y adapters to maintain the flow out and back, or do what I did, and drill the sandwich adapter so the red and blue chambers are a single chamber.

Here's the drilled adapter. The holes I drilled are in yellow. Now, oil coming from the fliter can pass directly into both red and blue chambers, flow past the sensors installed in the cooler line holes, and then flow into the oil return.
I'll post some pictures of the actual adaper this weekend, as I have to have it off the car while I work on my headers.

My center pod is an OEM gauge pod, modified with a 52mm faceplate made by Derres Catalano. It rules! He's made a TON of them for people on I-Club.

I checked out the pics. Looks good. I like the Dual A-Piller and Center pod setup. It looks clean. I didnt want to go with the 3 A-piller cuz it looked too crowded for me. I have been looking for a faceplate....figured i could fabricate one, but i didnt really want to.
