I'm sorry but this is stupid. For this last time this is not a mod, this is more of a mistake mod that a 12 year old kid would think of. If you feel this is a mod go ahead enjoy it. If you created this idea because of money issue then why don't you sell this idea on ebay so you can save up to get a real rumble sound exhaust.

Thank you for ruining a Subaru with your lame-ass ideas. If you have just five bucks to spend on it, it'd be better if you bought a double-quarter pounder at McDonald's.
You aren't homeless. Don't create stupid, pointless mods.

Nice mod. Tried that before I even had a chance to read this thread. But I did it the even cheaper way... Free!
I just unbolted the axelback and I was done. No exhaust smell during idle ..... (Believe me, I sat in my car with the heater on during idle for 20 mins during my 10 at work windows up) no exhaust smell on long drives. it sounds awesome. Turns heads but bad for the cops. Pops like crazy. Idles nice. Not loud below 3k Makes it more fun to drive. This gave me an idea of how my future electric cutout will sound.
When I tried the washers it didn't sound right though. It mad a chuffing noise that wasn't crisp sounding. Open pipe sounds more crisp.
Can't wait for the electric cutout. Beats the hell out of crawling under the car and bolting and unbolting.
Props to you bud.

Oh yea. I did notice that there are A LOT of haters on NASIOC. Even in the Private For Sale section (seriously pathetic)!!!
So much ish talking rude and negative comments. Give the guy a break. he's just sharing something he may or may not be proud of. What floats his boat floats his friggen boat.
Seriously, no respect whatsoever. No need to rape his decision. If there is something he should know about just be kind about it, period. People with no respect just make this forum a piece of s#it. They contribute to making the world go round but to a point where it goes round up its own a.ss.
Got anger and stress to vent?

I have even a better idea for a "rumble mod"..... you could just pipe the exhaust up thru the floor into the passenger compartment.... think of the benefits!!!
All the "throaty boxer" rumble you want.... any you're not even annoying the neighbors!
Supplement the heater in those colder climates!
Zero emissions at the tail pipe.... hell now you can cut off those catylatic converters! File for Zero emissions vehicle status in CA and get a big tax break!
Wow... I'm going to patent this idea and sell it on ebay!!

Actually, the exhaust leak, oops, sorry, "mod", may have control over whether you live or die. Exhaust leaks sometimes find their way into the passenger compartment (why do you think the exhaust exits out the back?).
Ever heard of carbon monoxide poisoning? Not a good thing.
Do it if you want, but I prefer safety over noise.
have you ever actually looked at an emissions test report?
have you ever run catless?
do me a favor and figure out how much CO comes out of your tailpipe and then look at how much it actually takes to kill or mame a child. i think you'd be surprised to find out just how little comes out of the end of an LEV status vehicle, let alone ULEV status automobiles from other manuf's such as honda.
please research a bit before you make a dumb comment. the fact remains that it is now more likely that idling in the garage will cook you before you die of anything like CO poisening.
Please feel free to test your theory.
At 14.7:1 AFR, the content of CO in exhaust is between .5% and 1%.
The effects of carbon monoxide in parts per million are listed below:
0.01% Slight headache in two to three hours
0.02% Slight headache within two to three hours
0.04% Frontal headache within one to two hours
0.08%Dizziness, nausea, and convulsions within 45 minutes. Insensible within two hours.
0.16% Headache, dizziness, and nausea within 20 minutes. Death in less than two hours.
0.32% Headache, dizziness and nausea in five to ten minutes. Death within 30 minutes.
0.64% Headache and dizziness in one to two minutes. Death in less than 20 minutes.
1.28% Death in less than three minutes.

In regards to the catalytic converter here is a good read: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/catalytic-converter2.htm
What is not mention in that articale (that is read anyway) is that a 3 way cat has to have a constant rich/lean mixture in order for it to work right. One cat requires the rich mixture (so only some of the pollutants are removed) and the other requires a lean mixture (same screnario as above). So no matter how good the cat, you will still have harmful gasses coming out.
Also exhaust leaks can cause backfires (which will scare the crap out of you at least the first time).
As far as being ghetto, i have no problem with that, look at the HID retrofits they are doing. They are pretty ghetto, but are working for a higher purpose. Look at all the people making intercooler sprayers from another pump on their washer reservoir. again to achieve a performance gian. But the real rule still remains, nothing is free and you have to pay to play.

Ahh...your not supposed to have gaps or holes in your exhaust. Not unless you like breathing exhaust. People die from carbon monoxide poisioning if they are in a prolonged state of rest with the car running and they have a faulty exhaust system.

If everyone is now talking down on this exaust leak about the carbon monoxide, then how come no one chased quicktime and their cutouts right out of the building. Everyone knows half the ppl with a cutout run straight exaust also, and for the record if you cant afford a axleback then you definitly cant afford an uppipe so as long as you have a wrx you should still have 2 cats....
