Wow, after watching the first 120 or so laps I thought it was going to be relatively caution free...boy was I wrong! Crazy...

Wow, close race at the end. I was glad Martin didnt win.;) My driver Stewart taken out by his drafting buddy:(
Too bad about Boris, I was pulling for him to do well, great save to stay out of the others and off the inside wall.

Did you not see the impact, read the story, see the aftermath of the hit?
Some wrecks are more spectacular yes, but when you nose a car directly into the wall with little or no time for the car to slow down it is a HARD HARD HARD hit.
Would you consider Dale Sr's crash worse. It looked about the same but had a worse outcome.
When NASCAR comes out and says it was one of the hardest impact they have ever seen maybe that is a clue that it's a pretty bad crash.
Flipping and disintegrating are not factors that really make a crash bad. They might make it look bad but it's still the decelerations and forces that are acting upon the car and body that makes a crash bad.

allow me to offer MW's 1990 Bristol crash . . .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2HxwmGfL0c&mode=related&search=
nice cheese grater effect.
I think that car ended up in the museum in Talledega,
and it looked better there than it did at Bristol because the piled it up some for the display.
here is the blurb from their website
On April 7, 1990, at the Bristol Raceway, Tennessee, Michael Waltrip experienced what many stock car veterans felt was the worst single-car crash in the history of stock car racing. Waltrip walked away from the crash and drove the next day in the Bristol Winston Cup Race. Anyone who doubts the existence of miracles need only view the photographs and car, both on display in the International Room.

I haven't seen the bristol crash in a while. That was amazing that he walked away from that. It didn't take much removal to get him out of the cockpit.

Wow no posts since March. Have to clear the cobwebs out.
How bout that Jr guy joining Hendrick!!!! I'm a 24 fan but having Jr. in the stable will make the team competition a lot more interesting. Though I must admit I'd rather Hendrick buy out Casey's contract than let Kyle go.

The taunting of McMurray was fun to watch. McMurray did a great job dealing with JPM forcing him to work HARD for that pass but it was inevitable and McMurray knew it.

I'm so happy JPM won the race, maybe it will shut the nascar guys up.
On another note, this was the first nascar race I have ever watched and I was a little disappointed, even though it was on my home road course. There were soooo many cautions for what seemed like stupid little reasons and on top of that they lasted a long time. There were two cautions for debris where a guy right behind the wall could have jumped over and kicked it off the track but no, they made it a full course caution and had them do multiple laps under it. Made the race very boring, even though it was on a road course. Just my thoughts... don't know if this is normal nascar stuff or what but it was a bit disappointing. I doubt ill watch anymore races besides next years sears point race.

I'm not sure who runs the crews that pull the cars that are stuck on course out of harms way but I'm gonna guess it is a NASCAR crew and not the local crew. Nascar crews aren't used to working a course that can get by on doing things like that on a local yellow is my guess as to why they had to go FCY for multiple laps when a minor single car incident took place.

Most of the commentators got it right though...
Sure, he wasn't the fastest guy out there. But he was also noticeably down on power (no doubt to try to make a 2 stop race) and he managed to keep up the good pace he had while still saving fuel.
I'll take the guy who wins because he's fast enough to keep up, while using less fuel than everyone else...obviously.

Normally, they use SCCA corner workers from that area that normally work that track.

When big pro series come in to many tracks they use local corner workers but they have their own truck crews and safety crews. At Road America it's just painful to watch the Champ Car guys fumble through a FCY when the local crew could have had the car out of the way in a half lap under a local yellow.

We will see, I think Montoya is understanding that it's not just go fast turn left. There is actually skill involved.
I wonder if people are starting to understand that now, who am I kidding.

I think we found out yesterday why NASCAR is a big draw, drive 400 miles to win by 4 thousands of a second.
