Jay,
It's quite possible that I'll sell my JICs late this year, early next year. Something like that. If you would like I'll post it here in Motorsports or just PM you whenever I get around to it. I got a good deal on them and I'll pass that along for sure, especially to someone that I know will use them instead of going "Look y0, I gotz me some phat coilovers!" :)

I did that for Oscoda...
Funny how it's easy to get somebody to take a long weekend, spend a couple hundred bucks for gas and hotels, put 1400 miles on their truck, do most of the driving, all in return for letting them drive my car for six minutes. :D

Well in their defense, the 6 minutes is much more fun than all the towing.

I also like my cushy codriver arrangement. The F250 diesel super truck does not suck for 14 hr roadtrips :)
There is something about towing UP A MOUNTAIN at the same RPMs as the race car's cold idle

I think the 525lb-ft of torque might have something to do with that. :p

So it sounds like they had 2 co-drivers go up against each other in the semi-finals of the Super Challenge (Jeff Cashmore and his co-driver in the MR2). I'm curious - how do they handle that scenario?? Tom, Miranda, Shawn? I know you guys were still there at that time.
They run 1 driver by himself, wait 5 mins, and then run the other one. Jeff Cashmore went first in this particular case, starting on the left. I waited 5 mins, and then did my runs. Beat him by 2 tenths on the left, after being back by a tenth on my right side to take the win.
Tom had the advantage of sand bagging. Not to discredit his win, but it DOES HELP, and there's no way I would have gone into the Final at DC if I didn't have my wet runs there.
If I was winning by 1.2, i would have chilled sunday morning too.
for us in ES, I had to go chase the '03 National Champ, so I couldn't back off :P I picked up more than half a second on each side sunday morning. Although I redlighted both left side runs in the AM

My back agrees with you on the washboard conditions of US-23. Being vertically-challenged is a benefit while commuting in an STX WRX... my head doesn't get slammed into the ceiling.

Tom,
You don't really need to go to Peru do you? It would have been nice to have a big fat advantage and only have to worry about how 1, maybe 2 people do at the Finale. Now its practically winner takes all. No pressure right..;)

I have a set of JICs now and a few different spring rates; I'd really like to go to something with a better road ride. Mine is quite bouncy on the highway.

Aha! So they won't just normally fit. Whew. Thought I had overlooked something. I sold my Noltecs to Tom/Miranda for her car because I thought they wouldn't fit the JICs without some work. Glad to know I was right. :)
As far as the bounce; my girlfriend had the best description: "Feels like you're riding a pogo stick around town."
I have ridden in some JICs that weren't bad; 7k/6k setup on a Forester XT in late 2003. No bounce.
Also I have heard of a 12kf/10kr setup on an STi that exhibited glassy-smooth ride.

Wimps!!
I'd think that if anyone would need a sports bra, it might be me! But I daily drive on JICs (8K/10K), and only very occasionally do I say "Wow, that's awfully bumpy, maybe I should have worn a sports bra today..." :D
I think it's mostly that I simply look for something rather different in a car than most people do. For instance, on the test drive, I really couldn't stand the WRX stock suspension and RE-92s, while the sales guy was raving about "the tightness of the suspension". He's like "see how fast you could take that tight cloverleaf?!?" And I was like "yeah, 15 mph slower than I do every morning in my BMW!"

The stiff springs themselves do not bother me; it's just the bounce. I've noticed that it gets pretty bad on my car from about 55 on up to about 65. 70+ and it smooths out a bit. Lower speeds than 55 and it's not as violent.
As for road ride, my truck has an overall better highway ride than the JICs...and that includes the fact that I bumped up the sway to a 36mm bar in the front and the shocks are a bit worn these days. :)
I have the sneaky suspicion that if I bumped up my rates to 8k/10k that the JICs would actually be a little happier there. The last time I went up in spring rate they responded with a less bouncy ride. :)

I think a large part of the bounciness might be the combination of the spring rates and shock settings. When we first installed the JICs, we experienced a lot of bounciness. After about a week, we set the shocks stiffer, and the bounciness went away. :)
As for the Subaru salesman, IIRC I think he just shut up. Or perhaps I just THOUGHT the "15 mph slower than my BMW" and didn't actually say it out loud. :) I don't remember for sure anymore.

The one thing Jen didn't mention is that we went with helper springs front and rear and I think that helps with the bounciness as well. I don't know that anyone else we've seen used helpers front and rear on their setup. But she has a point, when we had them set on full soft right after we put them in they were pretty bouncy. We bumped them up to 5 clicks in front and 7 in the back for the first autocross with them on and then were too lazy to dial it back for the drive home and they were WAY less bouncy at that setting. That's where we now drive them every day.
As for the Subaru salesman, IIRC I think he just shut up.
Most car salesmen I've come across are somewhat speechless when they ride with an autocrosser through a hard corner... LOL. The RSX salesman I drove with wasn't a very big fan of me rotating the car mid-corner with a throttle lift. "I realize you do that very well and you've had a lot of practice but PLEASE don't do that again"

I've tried my dampers with 2-3 clicks, 5 clicks, 7 clicks, 8 clicks, 10 clicks, 11 clicks, 13 clicks, and all the way up to 14 clicks. 14 clicks is notably less bouncy, however it just becomes harsh at that point so it's pick your poison. So far my best compromise is 3 clicks front and about 11 (or 12, can't remember) clicks rear. Back won't bounce at all; it's all in the front at this point. I'm thinking the helper springs would eliminate a notable amount of the bounce. I'm pondering whether to try that or to just go with a different setup altogether.
Indecision may or may not be my problem. :)

OK, I just got the hat from the SCCA in the mail that I assume came from Subaru of America for the contingency that SCCA administers. I know it's just a hat but it is by far the coolest trophy I've gotten to date in autocross. Maybe someday I'll be competing for the check instead of the hat but to me at this point the hat is pretty damn cool and I've had a goofy smile on my face since opening the box (actually Jen got home first and opened the box before I got here).
Thanks SOA\SCCA for doing the contingency at all and for giving me a very nice hat,
