STi's ran away with T2 today at Pocono part 2

turboICE 09-21-2005 01:59 PM

Tom you have dealt with the SCCA long enough to know they can, and do, do anything they please. This is especially true if they feel that one a few parties that are able to exert a world of influence within the SCCA would want them to act in such a manner.

If your hopes could be borne out then T1 wouldn't be the factory spec corvette class.

Of course you are right in a fair world even if STi's finished 1,2,3 if the spread between first and fifth were 0.250 seconds there really shouldn't be any need to make adjustments. We know that the world in racing terms is even less fair then the world in general.

WCTC takeoffs might be good..they all use 235/40/17 RA1's and they generally put on fresh tires for qualifying...so their practice sets might be up for grabs........

Hmm...maybe I should bring a pickup truck to Laguna Seca instead of my commuter....
AndrewSS 09-21-2005 07:12 PM

you guys are mean... telling me youre gonna take all the tires... well good ones that is :( :(
jcroy66 09-22-2005 08:11 AM

Phil and I will be there Saturday and Sunday (maybe Friday night too, not sure yet), but then again, Tom and Miranda already know that. :) Javid, it'll be good to meet you (or did I meet you at the Atlanta Pro and have already forgotten??)
javid 09-22-2005 08:53 AM

I don't get to the autoX's much. I spend 99% of my time fixing my car for the 1% of the time I can go to DEs. :(

The run-offs should be a nice break, I have been working for 18 days strait.
A pair of Touring 2 drivers, led by Rob Hines, of Arlington, Va., smoked the Mid-Ohio course Tuesday, as Hines, in his Kumho Tires/Nismo/Red Line Oil 2003 Nissan 350Z blitzed the T2 qualifying record of 1:39.286 (set in 2004 by Don Knowles) with a 1:38.829 (82.251 mph). Chuck Hemmingson, of West Des Moines, Ia., was a solid second in his Subaru/Rotary Lift 2005 Subaru WRX STi, nailing down a 1:39.164, and Mark Boden, of Winnetka, Ill., was behind him with a 1:39.391 in his Fall-Line Motorsports 2004 BMW M3.
I'm going to say classing looks pretty good right now. Also - dang club racing has gotten real serious. Maybe I should just stay in my little ole regional class.

Turns 9 & 10 near the north parking lot. Lots of elevation changes and you get to watch the cars get unweighted and slide off track :)

Go go go STis (so Tom is hosed next year and has to drive well instead of being a hack :D )!!!

ok... thats what i had thought, @ a trackday a 360 modena was in front of my dad and lost it on the elevation just beyond that little bridge by turn 9 i believe, i guess the driver got scared and lifted then spun, luckily kept it on track and my dad missed him !

I just wanted to mention, the team that was reference in this thread is the ICY Racing team. I would link their site but a newly registered member I have to have a certain number of posts before it will let me. However, they are at ICYRacing then add the dot and the com. I suppose that's close enough. =)

Looks like STIs took 1-2 at the runoffs T2 race. I watched the live timing setup and Hemmingson passed Schotz at the start and led the entire race. Skavnes took over 2nd on the next to last lap. He had been in 2nd earlier but dropped back.
jrummi 09-24-2005 12:02 PM

looked like an awesome race..... lots of passing mid pack some passing then repassing, then repassing,,, like in the case of Skavnes and Knowles

From scca.org:

After the three-lap caution ended, Hemmingson sprinted away again, only to be reeled in by both Knowles and Skavnes Subaru/Goodyear/Valvoline Subaru Impreza WRX STi. Knowles bumped Hemmingson from behind going into the Esses. Only splendid driving by Hemmingson kept the Subaru on the track, and Knowles, showing great sportsmanship, remained in second place.

Hemmingson:
I got tapped a couple of times at the start, but that wasnt near as exciting as when Don touched me, Hemmingson said. I didnt really expect that one. I was ready to save the first one, but the next one surprised me. I was pretty sideways, and had my foot on the throttle. I didnt want to let off and lose a bunch of positions. I like being in the lead.

You know, he bumped me and then gave me the chance to recover and get back to racing again.

Great hard racing and good sportsmanship,,,, I really hope we get some incar vids before the stupid speed channel decides to air it with their lame coverage
AndrewSS 09-24-2005 05:14 PM

I saw the race, it was very entertaining and fun to watch. There was tons of action, one of the best races i have seen, it was nice to see the STi's do so well :)

I took my camcorder and got about 8min of film... some of it is good, most of it is repetitive, i missed the part where a camaro went off track on the right then came back on track, hit an s2k then the camaro went off into the sand! That was something to see. Anyway, would anyone like to host my video when i get done editing?

The entire race was incredible; especially the tap and recover. I was soo excited when Hemmingson gathered it back up, it took me a few minutes to realize what Knolls did. He drove the piss out of his F-body, tried to pass the STi, taped while going for it, and then backed off to let his rival recover. That type of sportsmanship is pretty inspiring. For me Knolls is the definition of a Professional driver.

Of course the Hemmingson and the STi are fastAr :D
jrummi 09-24-2005 10:59 PM

how did skavnes get past knowles?
Midnight_Gold 09-26-2005 03:06 AM

I'm pretty sure it was an off-the-corner sprint.
jrummi 09-26-2005 12:38 PM
I'm pretty sure it was an off-the-corner sprint.
What exactly does this mean?

You mean like every straight :)

I assume you mean in some of the complex corners,,, where Skavnes just drove straight and took the line
