if its your everyday car the sti spoiler is a no go in my book.. also think they should remain on the sti's and nothing else..
Actually, they like the big ones more, they say they're more satisfying. There's nothing worse than getting all excited over a Suby, then finding out it's packing small.
The one that say size doesn't matter, are just trying to not hurt your feelings. But honestly, size doesn't really affect performance all that much, your small unit can be perfectly functional. As long as you're satisfied.
thats hysterical
as for women not liking it..? ahh.. majority of them have absolutely no clue what the heck it is or even for..
however.. to me pulling up to a valet entrance at a nice restaurant with the sti spoiler is just too dahamm much.. lil obnoxious if you ask me.. keep it smooth.. play it smooth

Sure thing, if you can swap it, do it.

Another thread about this topic? Wow...
| jrskeen | 07-15-2007 09:17 AM |
its an old thread that has since been brought back twice...
I have an STI wing on my WRB bugeye. I am aware that it looks a little goofy so far without the hood scoop and wheels to balance it out, but they are on the list as the next upgrades. I took advantage of a free swap of trunks. I love how it looks. I am simply on a mission to have a BugSTI. Something subaru thought it not necessary to release to the US. Its gonna take some time, but the wing was simply a step in the process and I took advantage of it when an opportunity arose. And i love it. I live in a place where it draws very little extra attention. No problems here.

I couldn't agree more. I just did a trunk swap for the STI spolier and I love it. It's pretty much been said before but if you like the big wing, then sport it!! It's all in what you want to do as the owner of the car.

hehe. Fellow techer. Oh-dub campus, I assume.
ps
that sticker needs to be visible if you don't want to get ticketed by campus police.

I actually don't like the STi wing that much, so that tells that story. As far as a WRX having the STi wing...it depends on why the WRX owner put it on there. Does the person just really like the look? Did they need an inexpensive way to get some more downforce in the back? Is he/she trying to trick people into thinking it's an STi?
| EnterTheDragon | 07-16-2007 04:01 PM |
1. It's ugly
2. It's an option on the WRX
3. You = fail

this thread is old but why not go ahead and add to the insanity...
1. it's not the best producer of downforce if your driving habits require downforce...
2. it gets in the way of seeing everything
3. it distracts and attracts attention from all the wrong people
4. it doesn't look any better on most cars than the regular wing
when i see it on a wrx i think "oh, they're either trying to look like an sti or just wanted people to notice them more."
either way, it works. it's probably one of the fastest ways to get negative attention.
Well technically STi is a tuning company, so just like people put HKS stickers on their car for their HKS exhaust, etc.... If you've spent the $$$ to by a STi part, I think its just fine to put an STi sticker on your plus. Plus, to each his own. If someone wants to cover their car in stickers they should, its their car, they're paying for it.
STi also makes a special edition WRX, and places their badges in a few specific places on that model vehicle, designating it as an "STi." There is nothing wrong with putting an STi sticker on your non-STi car, just as long as you don't place it in the spots that identify the car as an STi.

I wouldn't do it... I always prefer to use OEM parts over aftermarket, but in situations like this where the OEM piece is very recognizable and would make people think that you had the more expensive and performant model then I would definitely shy away from it. I had the same situation when I had a turbo'ed Acura Integra - I loved the Type-R wing but wouldn't sport it because it wasn't an ITR and I didn't want to look like a poser. Putting the ITR skirts and rear valences on a normal Integra is one thing, but the wing is just too distinct. I think the same reasoning applies to this situation - but do whatever you like, I tend to overthink things and worry to much about what other people think. You may be less neurotic than me, good luck with whatever you decide to do :D
